00:03 NFC Championship game on the West Coast saw the 49ers 34 points,
00:07 Detroit Lions 31 points moving on to the Super Bowl.
00:10 But this was a tale of two halves, 24 to 7 at the break, then 27 to 7 in
00:14 the second half in favor of the 49ers as they move on to the Super Bowl.
00:18 Craig, what did you see in this game and
00:20 a lot of questionable decisions there out of Dan Campbell?
00:23 >> Yeah, so look, you're doing the research on it now.
00:27 You're never gonna hear the head coach of a team come out and
00:30 say that we don't have confidence in a player.
00:32 It just generally doesn't happen in sports.
00:34 And when it does, we're talking about it on shows like this.
00:37 So you're never gonna hear Dan Campbell come out and say, hey, look,
00:40 this is what he does say.
00:43 We play aggressive, this is the way we play.
00:45 We hit 80% of those plays all season long, fourth and two, fourth and three.
00:49 That's what he is gonna say.
00:51 Now here's what I'm gonna say.
00:53 Obviously going in, I had no idea that Michael Badgley had only made 35% of
00:57 those kicks in the last five years from that distance.
01:00 Obviously, I did not know that Michael Badgley has been 50% from 45 and
01:05 up over the course of his career.
01:06 So guys, let's be clear.
01:08 He did not have confidence that guy was gonna make that kick.
01:11 I mean, I think that's more of the reason.
01:13 I think that if he had the old Jason Hanson there, or if he had Tucker, or
01:18 if he had Vinatieri, like Belichick was kicking Vinatieri to win games,
01:22 I think he would have seen a field goal attempt there.
01:24 I genuinely don't think he had confidence that he was gonna make that kick in
01:28 the end, that he was gonna go down swinging with what's worked for
01:31 him in the regular season.
01:32 So sometimes we don't really know the stats going in, and
01:34 you're never gonna hear that said publicly.
01:36 But my opinion is Dan Campbell looked at it, looked at the numbers, and
01:40 somebody upstairs said, yo, this guy's only hitting 35% of kicks from 45 and
01:44 up over the last few years.
01:45 What are we doing here?
01:46 The odds are against us.
01:47 Play the odds, and that's what he did.
