00:00 >> Third straight game where it feels like it's just one bad quarter for
00:02 you guys.
00:03 It really, really gets away, almost can't pull it back in.
00:06 What's happening in some of these quarters,
00:07 Cliff kind of alluded to maybe it's just, it's a depth thing and
00:10 then a lineup thing that you're just trying to survive.
00:14 And unfortunately, it just gets away from you.
00:16 Is that what happened tonight there in the third?
00:18 >> I think it's part of it.
00:19 I think it's, it is what it is.
00:22 Like we had guys out and it's been like that all year and
00:27 last year and things like that.
00:29 I think going to the third quarter, just I don't know what it is.
00:33 Maybe a lack of focus and just prioritizing, obviously defense over the course of
00:37 the game, but emphasizing how important those first few positions are going into
00:41 the third and just prioritizing having good starts in the third.
00:45 Obviously, you can't control shots and things like that, but
00:48 kind of just controlling what we can and just making sure that when the right spot
00:52 is having rotation, just emphasizing getting off to good starts in the third.
00:55 That puts us behind us, feeling like that all year.
00:58 I think that we just got to turn a new leaf with that.
01:02 I think that'll put us in a better position to win games at the end.
01:04 >> Given the injuries tonight, Cliff decided to roll with a bigger lineup to start.
01:09 You got to start at point guard.
01:10 I don't think you've done that as an NBA player.
01:13 Just from just overall, just kind of analysis, what did you think of your
01:17 performance tonight at point guard, especially something that you haven't
01:20 really done a ton of full time at the NBA level?
01:23 >> Yeah, I mean, I always feel like I could play better regardless.
01:26 And obviously, I'm still unhappy with the way I perform and
01:31 I feel like I could play better.
01:33 Of course, I play like that every game and
01:35 nobody's gonna be harder on me than myself.
01:38 And obviously, the thing that stands out are the turnovers.
01:41 And being in that position, I gotta be better with the ball, less turnovers.
01:45 And just being a little bit more organized.
01:48 I know I haven't done it in a while, but
01:52 I still hold myself to the highest standard with just my performance in general.
01:55 And I think for us having a lineup like that,
02:00 that we haven't had pretty much ever, I think that we did relatively fine.
02:05 I mean, most of the time it was my turnovers, but I think overall,
02:10 13 turnovers for a lineup like that over the course of the game isn't too bad.
02:15 Obviously, the defense for us has gotta be better.
02:17 We did better in the first half, but
02:20 like we were talking about before, just prioritizing that in the third.
02:25 But I also understand that's part of it.
02:27 I'm still trying to find rhythm.
02:28 I don't know how many games it's been for me, but still just building on that and
02:33 understanding that every game is a different look.
02:35 And I'm building all my looks and a lot of play through the game.
02:39 And I just gotta continue to be better and
02:41 I'm gonna live off the game really and just continue to grow.
02:45 >> Cody, obviously, intense start of late, Steve gets tossed in the fourth quarter.
02:50 What was the message like in the huddle, obviously, shifting to Coach Corbett?
02:54 >> Yeah, I mean, just continue to play and just keep fighting.
02:56 And I mean, I love that, obviously, and I feel like if he didn't get it,
03:02 I was about to, and I think it's the kind of part we need.
03:06 And that's how you coach is, day in and day out.
03:09 And I love it, at the end of the day, I feel like it kind of gives us a spark.
03:14 And at the end of the day, we gotta continue to play together and
03:18 stay together, no matter what the score is, and
03:20 just continue to find ways to put ourself in a position to win games.
03:24 And regardless of what the score is, continue to play.
03:27 >> Kind of going off that a little bit, Nick Richards said in Saturday's post game
03:31 how at halftime you were kind of riling up the team and trying to get motivated.
03:35 Was there a halftime message maybe this one,
03:37 where it's a close game, you gotta stay locked in?
03:40 >> I mean, kind of just touch on it, there ain't really too much to say about it.
03:43 It's just continue to have that pride of competing and
03:48 understanding regardless of what the score is looking like,
03:50 just feeling like we can win the game regardless.
03:52 And yeah, just kind of having that pride to wanna go out there and
03:55 put ourself in a position to win.
03:57 And I'm sure we've all been in games where it looked like it was over and
04:02 we ended up winning those games.
04:03 So it's very doable, very possible, obviously.
04:06 The goal is to not be in that position towards the end of the game.
04:09 And that's why it's important that we prioritize our third quarters that we
04:13 have been great at and find ways to improve those so
04:16 that towards the end of the game we don't have to do that.
04:18 But focus on just executing and just focusing on what's more important at
04:23 the end of the game so that we don't have to continue to do that.
04:27 But like I said, it's growth and we're gonna continue to keep building together
04:32 and keep fighting regardless of what the score is.
04:35 >> Cody, before the season started, you talked about your rehab and
04:38 coming back and everything, you wanna be 100% sure.
04:41 Now that you've been back for a little while, how does it feel?
04:44 Do you feel like you have that full confidence back in you and
04:46 you don't really think about it as much?
04:49 >> From a physical standpoint, I feel fine.
04:53 I mean, obviously from a rhythm standpoint, it's hard to get that.
04:57 And guys go out with ankle injuries for two, three weeks and
05:03 it's about rhythm for them getting back into the game.
05:08 At the end of the day, I'm not making any excuses for myself.
05:10 I gotta play better and
05:12 I play better helps our team end up in a position to win games and
05:16 I'm gonna continue to build and grow and play better.
05:19 But it's not easy to do, especially being out that long and
05:23 feeling like you're getting all your live looks throughout the game.
05:27 And like I said, each game is different.
05:29 But I also take pride in myself and what I bring to the table in terms of
05:35 being able to adjust over the course of the games and
05:39 course over the season and things like that.
05:41 So I'm gonna continue to do it.
05:43 I'm gonna stay in the gym, keep working and stay confident.
05:46 >> Cody, you obviously are a guy with a strong defensive reputation and
05:51 for a guy who knows a lot about playing on that end of the floor.
05:53 Just what is so challenging about going up against a guy with a talent like
05:57 Jalen Brunson?
05:58 >> He's a tough cover, man.
05:59 He's really mastered his footwork and when he gets in the paint,
06:03 not only can he score the ball, but he's a forward general.
06:06 He knows the reads.
06:07 He knows what to look for and he makes his team better.
06:10 And obviously, it allows his team, his whole team to play with a lot of
06:14 confidence and feeling like they're staying ready and waiting for it to come to them.
06:18 And when they do, they're ready to play.
06:19 So I know it's hard and it's hard playing against someone like him.
06:26 And that's why I like, it's tough.
06:30 You try to find different schemes, different looks.
06:31 And in reality, they're good at what they do and
06:34 they're gonna get enough looks to score the ball.
06:36 It's just about doing what you can to tame them.
06:40 Tonight we didn't do exactly that, but at the end of the day,
06:44 I think they had,
06:47 even Chansel shoots 15 threes, he has 28 points.
06:53 So they had other guys to step up for them and they played well.
06:56 And other guys did their job and that's what it's about.
06:59 So we just gotta get better and just gotta go back, watch them and
07:03 grow as a team.
07:04 >> Thank you.
07:05 >> Appreciate it.
