00:03 Welcome to the press.
00:05 I just want to take this opportunity
00:06 to toast your magnificent victory, your great match,
00:11 your great comeback, your first Grand Slam title.
00:14 We're very happy it's here in Australia.
00:16 It'll be one you'll remember forever.
00:19 But just the way you've gone about this event
00:21 and the beautiful words you gave to young kids
00:24 about playing the game, which is really
00:26 important to everyone else in the room.
00:28 So thank you, and cheers to Janik and his victory,
00:32 and to the end of a magnificent Australian Open.
00:35 Thank you.
00:36 Thank you so much.
00:37 Thank you.
00:37 Cheers.
00:38 Cheers.
00:38 [APPLAUSE]
00:44 For sure, it takes a little while to process everything.
00:47 But I'm extremely happy how I handled
00:50 also today's situation on court.
00:51 It was very, very tough.
00:54 But I think the most important part
00:56 was the support I had throughout these two weeks.
01:02 I felt that many, many people were watching also
01:06 from home in the TV.
01:08 So I just tried my best.
01:12 I was a little bit in trouble today
01:15 with two sets to love down and a little bit over one hour.
01:21 So I just tried to stay positive,
01:25 trying to stick into the game plan, which
01:27 I had to adjust a little bit.
01:30 Danil is an incredible player.
01:32 And he has showed his-- also today, again,
01:36 an incredible fighter.
01:39 He has been so many hours on court.
01:41 And so I'm obviously sorry for him today.
01:47 But for sure, he will lift some more Grand Slam trophies.
01:52 Were you surprised by how aggressive Danil was
01:56 to start with?
01:57 And how proud are you of the way that you managed
02:00 to turn the match around?
02:01 Yeah, for sure.
02:02 I was expecting something different from his side.
02:06 So I had this feeling that he might come out
02:09 a little bit more aggressive, not this aggressive.
02:11 So he played really, really well the first two sets,
02:17 or two and a half sets.
02:19 I tried just to play even level, trying
02:25 to take a couple of chances in the third set, which
02:29 then I've done.
02:29 And when you win one very important game,
02:35 the match can change occasionally.
02:38 And that was the case today.
02:41 I just tried to stay as long in the court as possible,
02:46 knowing that he has been so many hours on the court.
02:49 And then the more the match goes on, maybe physically
02:52 I'm a little bit better today because he
02:56 played so many hours.
02:57 And I think that today was the key.
03:01 Was there a particular moment in the last year
03:04 or so maybe when you thought to yourself,
03:07 I'm ready to win a Grand Slam title like this?
03:11 I think this isn't what I have done, not last year,
03:15 two years ago.
03:17 I'm getting to know my body better.
03:19 I'm getting to know my team better.
03:23 This was a very important step for me.
03:26 Then last year we tried to have some more results.
03:34 I started off really well from the indoor tournaments.
03:38 Then in the Wells in Miami, I made semifinal and final.
03:41 Then also Monaco, I made semifinal.
03:46 Then the semis in Wimbledon.
03:47 So I had very good results.
03:50 And I think that made me believe that I
03:57 can compete against the best players in the world.
04:00 But now I still have to process it
04:03 because it was beating Novak in the semis,
04:06 and then today Danil in the final.
04:08 They're tough players to beat.
04:13 So it's a great moment for me and my team.
04:17 But in the other way, we also know that we have to improve
04:21 if we want to have another chance to hold a big trophy
04:25 again.
04:25 So this is all-- the process and the hard work occasionally
04:33 will always pay off.
04:35 (upbeat music)
