00:00 Batemans Brewery celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. We spoke to one of the longest
00:08 serving members of the team about what it's like working for a family run business spanning
00:13 five generations.
00:14 Hi, my name is Neil Hutchinson, IT manager at George Batemans Brewery.
00:20 It's a very special year for Batemans isn't it?
00:23 It's been 150 years, 1874 we've been going from. Yeah, definitely a special, special
00:30 year.
00:31 You've worked for Batemans for quite a long time haven't you?
00:34 Yeah, 35 years, yeah, 1889.
00:37 What changes have you seen over those years?
00:41 The brewery is much the same. Staff come and go but many, many work here over the years.
00:48 I've been at Staff Do recently, there was three of us, been there 100 years between
00:54 us. IT is obviously coming and changes but apart from that it's just traditional brewing.
00:59 You sell quite a lot online don't you?
01:01 Yeah, online is definitely the thing we've gone forward with.
01:06 And you still have lots of pubs around the county as well don't you?
01:09 Yeah, we have, there's 50 odd pubs still around the county selling Sadly Strong.
01:15 Now how are you celebrating this milestone year?
01:18 We've got many celebrations this year, throughout the year so there isn't just particularly
01:23 one event we're doing. We've got a VIP day later in the year, we've got Staff barbecues,
01:33 many events, Bands on the Bank, yeah there's many, many events this year.
01:39 And of course it wouldn't be Batemans if there wasn't going to be a special beer, tell me
01:43 about that.
01:44 Well yes, 5 Generations, 5G, yes celebrating 5 Generations of the Batemans and obviously
01:51 what a better year to bring one out and celebrate our celebrations.
01:55 Okay and when will people be able to get hold of that?
01:58 Later in the year, there's a launch probably about March/April time but yeah, watch this
02:04 space.
02:05 The celebrations will be held in association with the charity's Lives and Derbyshire Miners
02:11 Children's Holiday Centre in Skegness.
