Citizenship ceremonies are taking place around the country.

00:00 Here in Parramatta, in Sydney's multicultural western suburbs, around 120 people are receiving

00:07 their Australian citizenship.

00:09 The ceremony here kicked off with a smoking ceremony and traditional First Nations performances,

00:15 a nod to Australia's traditional owners and their history before people were called up

00:21 to celebrate and be awarded their citizenship certificates.

00:24 For those people celebrating their citizenship today, it's a proud moment.

00:28 "It's a celebration of all those past few years which we spent here, the beautiful memories

00:35 we went through in this year."

00:37 "I feel very nice, it's ecstatic, I feel wonderful."

00:40 "It's been a long time coming and we're just very happy the day is finally here."

00:45 Elsewhere across the festival being run by the Parramatta City Council today, there are

00:50 rides, food and other musical performances.

00:52 The main drawcard was set to be hot air balloon rides rising above the park, but sadly due

00:57 to wind those have had to be called off.
