00:00 All right, so most of the season been the number one option,
00:04 dropped back to the number two option as of late, Terry Rozier.
00:08 I mean, expectedly so the scoring is dropped off slightly since Lamello has come
00:13 back, passing numbers honestly are still there production wise.
00:16 And I think he's proven over the course of the last two seasons,
00:18 especially this year, perfectly capable and
00:20 comfortable playing both backcourt positions.
00:23 Toggling on and off ball as a playmaker, secondary creator.
00:27 Obviously is one of the most explosive players in the league this year is like
00:30 coming putting himself on the radar is like a true 20 plus point per game score
00:35 on high volume hasn't necessarily led to wins for the Hornets per se, but
00:39 it has clearly led to him being one of the more attractive options on the trade
00:42 market, highest true shooting percentage of Terry's career this year,
00:47 while also on the highest usage rate of his career.
00:50 I mean, as a result, like I said, one of the hottest names on the trade market.
00:53 It makes perfect sense because it's coming at the right time right now.
00:57 The Hornets are clearly looking to move on a little bit.
01:00 Terry's positioning himself to be a either a leader going forward that you can
01:05 rely on to be a reliable contributor when Lamello is out or be a very attractive
01:09 trade asset for a team that is currently competitive right now and
01:13 in a bit better of a situation than the Hornets.
01:15 >> Yeah, I mean, I said it in the season,
01:19 I still think there is a really good role for Terry's to be the sixth man.
01:23 And you saw while Lamello was out,
01:26 Terry was actually played the best basketball of the season so far.
01:29 And when he's come back, those numbers have dropped off a little bit.
01:32 And the feeling has always been that Terry's here is better as that off ball
01:37 score and that's certainly probably been our stance.
01:39 I think over the time, he's proven to be that.
01:44 This year, I'm beginning to wonder if it's almost swinging back the other way with
01:48 the pendulum, like when he is able to have the ball in his hands,
01:51 he sometimes looks like he's more in rhythm and he's more engaged offensively.
01:56 And again, some of these trade markets that are looking for him,
01:59 maybe that's what they're looking at.
02:01 So I do think there is something to be said here,
02:04 if you could get that big upgrade to a better defender,
02:09 someone also with size so your backcourt was two guys with 65, 66 plus.
02:14 Terry's there coming off your bench is just like a really great spot to be in.
02:18 And as a potential spot starter, if Lamela Ball is gonna be injury prone over
02:23 the course of his career, to have Terry Rozier as that sixth man to step in
02:27 would be perfect.
02:28 So I'm still reluctant to move Rozier before the trade deadline,
02:33 but I also appreciate if he's playing this well and
02:36 some team wants to really put two firsts on a table or another player,
02:42 this team is so far away that you have to listen to everything and
02:46 you can't get too picky.
02:48 >> Yeah, I completely agree.
02:49 I still have that stance along with you that there is certainly a role for
02:53 a player that is as productive as reliable in terms of their injury status.
02:58 Like apart from that nine missed games early in the year,
03:01 like he has been available and efficient.
03:03 He's playing quality two way basketball.
03:06 You really just can't get that out of many players, especially at his size.
03:10 And even at his contract value, if he's gonna put that up consistently and
03:15 even in a little bit less of a role with a more quality team off the bench or
03:19 something, those numbers are still going to be pretty close to team friendly at
03:24 what his contract value is gonna be at over the next couple of years with the cap
03:28 rising as well.
03:29 And just to put it into perspective how much better he's got as an on ball scorer.
03:33 This year, Terry leads the team of the Hornets in mid range field goal
03:37 percentage 49%, 80th percentile among guards.
03:41 His first year with the Hornets,
03:43 he was fourth on the team in mid range field goal percentage,
03:46 37%, 36th percentile among guards.
03:49 So I mean, he has like literally night and
03:52 day transformation as an on ball scorer at the second level.
03:55 Being able to pick his spots and kind of snake pick and
03:58 rolls weave his way through the defense.
04:00 Very patient, plays with pace as a point guard and
04:03 really is just an extremely high level scorer over the last year plus that he's
04:08 developed into, it's very impressive to see.
04:10 >> He's got so much better as a player since joining the Charlotte Hornets.
04:15 He was 25 years old when he joined Charlotte, right?
04:19 Most people at 25 years old, you think you are what you are, right?
04:23 That's what a lot of people would say.
04:25 You're not gonna get that much better in your mid 20s.
04:28 Like his usage in his first three seasons was all at 24% or under.
04:33 This last year is up at 28, this year is up at 29.
04:36 And he's having the most efficient season of his career.
04:39 And his assist percentage, again,
04:41 is up to 31% from 20% in his first three seasons.
04:46 So he has really just taken things up to another level this season.
04:50 And he won't win most improved or
04:53 he won't even be in the top ten of votes probably.
04:56 But if the Hornets were doing better and
04:59 Rozier was putting up the same numbers, I think he would be more in the conversation.
05:02 And I guess again, if it was over a broader period of time, but
05:06 real credit to Terroza here, he's putting a lot of work to get better.
05:10 And that's something that we all have to remember.
05:13 Like if you have those people with the attitude that Terroza has,
05:16 you get better every single year of your career.
05:18 Not just when you're 23, 24 and you think, well, that's it, that's the ceiling.
05:22 >> I mean, if this is the end of the run for
05:27 Terroza as a Charlotte Hornet in the next couple weeks here,
05:30 like I very much hope that the fan base kind of appreciates what he's done in his time.
05:36 Like he is top ten in franchise history in blocks in his time here,
05:41 in four and a half years.
05:42 Like part of that is again, because the Hornets history is not the most illustrious.
05:49 But like there are a lot of good bigs that came through this organization in
05:52 the 80s and 90s.
05:54 And Terry has cemented his place among Hornets history in the last couple years.
