00:00 And we are back with another edition of Talkin' C's with Bobby Kravitzky of SI Media Group.
00:14 Bobby, how are you doing today?
00:16 Doing fantastic.
00:17 Excited to see some familiar faces tonight.
00:20 Grant Williams in particular.
00:21 The South Exit to Dallas.
00:22 Like Menos.
00:23 So, uh, it should be a fun one.
00:26 Absolutely.
00:27 Absolutely.
00:28 I did the intro and I was like, "Why isn't it rolling off the tongue?"
00:30 It's because I usually say another edition of "How 'bout them Celtics Talkin' C's?"
00:33 But I forgot that part.
00:34 And so it really threw me off my rhythm there.
00:35 I was like, "Wait, what am I talking about?"
00:38 But we're here.
00:39 We're ready.
00:40 Excited to see Dallas tonight after the Rockets.
00:43 Last night, as you guys are listening to this, second night of a back-to-back, Celtics took
00:47 down the Rockets in a close game.
00:50 Ended up bringing home the win regardless, however, which again, as Sam and I said in
00:55 our recap that we did this morning, a win is a win, they all count the same in that
00:58 column.
00:59 However, 116-107, probably a little bit closer than Boston might have wanted.
01:03 They were down Al Horford and Drew Holliday.
01:05 Still got the win.
01:06 Alperin Chenguun had a triple-double, as did Jalen Brown.
01:08 Bobby, what were your biggest takeaways from that one?
01:11 I mean, we can talk about Porzingis and we can talk about Jalen Brown being comfortable
01:17 making the simple play consistently, but let's be honest here.
01:21 This is a Rockets team that was missing some of their top guys on the second night of a
01:26 back-to-back after going to overtime.
01:28 Celtics just starting a back-to-back and in the third quarter, when really they have a
01:33 chance to put it away and get their starters rest for the final frame, it's a years-long
01:38 concern now that whatever happens at halftime, they can't figure it out, that they come out
01:44 and they're not focused and they have less energy than the opponent and they get outplayed
01:49 thoroughly once again.
01:51 And so as a result, they were still credit to them.
01:54 They do this year, they're not only better in the third quarters compared to last season
01:58 as low a bar as that is, but they recover faster.
02:01 So that I also put stock in.
02:03 They still went into the fourth quarter up by double digits.
02:07 At the same time, it's a concern that really is likely to come back to bite them to some
02:13 extent come the postseason.
02:16 Can't wait.
02:17 There's nothing I love more than stressing playoff games that I should not have to stress.
02:23 In regards to last night's win against Houston, this is becoming a bit of a trend where they
02:28 just don't show up for parts of a game and it's like extended parts of a game.
02:33 I feel like ever since they went into Indiana and they lost even the one that they won.
02:37 No, no, I think they did well in the wind, but in the loss there, they just fell apart
02:42 and like they couldn't score for four or five minutes.
02:45 We've seen it in a couple of these losses that have come up over the last couple of
02:48 weeks and then last night in Denver's loss on Friday was just another like iteration
02:53 of, Oh wow, the Southeast can't put the ball in the basket for whatever reason.
02:58 Positives from yesterday.
03:00 Good Joe Missoula game.
03:02 We have a lot of people in our comment section and people in the, I guess comments of the
03:06 live streams too, where they're just like, I don't like Joe.
03:10 I don't think he does a great job.
03:11 And I know we've talked about Joe plenty, but last night you saw a few great things.
03:16 First and foremost, the guys that were playing well, stayed in the game.
03:21 Luke Cornette came into the game in the fourth quarter when things were kind of spiraling.
03:25 Like you mentioned in his presence, help the Celtics steady the ship.
03:28 Like he was really good yesterday.
03:30 Eight points, nine rebounds, three blocks.
03:32 He was a presence inside.
03:34 He gave Shangoon a little bit more trouble than Porzingis did because Shane Goulden was
03:38 just going right through him.
03:40 The other good thing from this is the offense went through the guys that had it.
03:46 I couldn't tell you, I'm not a box score guy, but I couldn't tell you the last time that
03:51 Tatum and Brown just like, we're both out of the top shock getters.
03:55 Porzingis and Derek White had the two most shots yesterday and they had the most points
03:59 and they were the most efficient.
04:01 That's what should happen when your team is this good.
04:04 You can just kind of free flow and play on the fly like that because you can rely on
04:10 all five of your starters to give you a big game if you had to.
04:14 If there were injuries, you could go into a game at least with two of them playing,
04:17 be like, well, we have a chance.
04:18 Like these guys can still get us across the finish line.
04:22 And that's what you saw in Houston yesterday.
04:23 They went to Porzingis late, ruled.
04:24 They need to go to Porzingis late more often.
04:27 He's great in the fourth quarter.
04:30 I don't know how the Denver game affected it, but up until that point, I think he was
04:34 like 12 of 18 on clutch shots this season.
04:39 Use him.
04:40 He's a mismatch, a walking mismatch.
04:42 Use him.
04:43 A lot of.
04:44 Yeah.
04:45 He didn't get one in the fourth court against Denver.
04:47 So those numbers didn't change.
04:50 It was good.
04:51 He was old too, like early in the quarter, but he didn't get it down the stretch.
04:56 Two misses over Reggie Jackson that weren't great looks on his shameful Porzingis is shooting
05:03 12 of 18 in the clutch this season for what it's worth.
05:06 It remains three of eight.
05:09 Joe said as much after the Nuggets game, he said we probably should have gone to Porzingis
05:12 more late.
05:13 That's on me.
05:14 Whatever he talked about it from that perspective, which was good.
05:15 And then the Rockets game, they did it.
05:17 So I mean, credit to him for making that adjustment for changing it up and finding a new way to
05:21 win because the Rockets really didn't have an answer for Porzingis all night.
05:24 I said it when we did our recap, like if Alperin Shangoon was on him, he would just
05:28 space the floor and the Celtics would either get an open three for him or an open lane
05:31 to the rim because Sengoon wasn't there or he'd have Jalen Green on him when the Rockets
05:36 tried to get cute and he just post them up and have an easy bucket.
05:39 So they didn't have an answer for him.
05:41 Derek White was awesome in that game, sort of controlling the tempo, controlling the
05:44 offense finished with 21 and 11 rebounds, which is impressive with two blocks as well.
05:50 He was super, super effective.
05:52 And a 19 three of eight solid night for him.
05:55 Pritchard was good.
05:56 But I I said this to Sam.
05:57 I truly believe the Celtics lose that game if it's not for Luke Cornette.
06:01 I wrote about it for Celtics blog.
06:02 It's not up yet.
06:04 At the times Luke Cornette went in the game and made an impact.
06:06 There was a time.
06:07 Let me pull it up so I can like reference my own thought process here and explain it
06:14 without having to fumble over my words.
06:16 In the third quarter, Celtics entered the quarter up 13 and then they jumped out to
06:22 I think it was a at at its most a 17 point lead.
06:26 Eighty three sixty six.
06:28 Then the Rockets went on a 11 to zero run within the span of three minutes.
06:34 Cornette checked in at three twenty six.
06:36 He immediately grabbed an offensive rebound.
06:40 Drew Fallon apparent shangun.
06:43 Nothing came of the possession.
06:45 The next Rockets possession.
06:46 They're still valued by the way.
06:49 Exactly.
06:50 I agree.
06:51 I said it was a spark, right?
06:52 Like it gave him something.
06:53 It gave him something to get going after an 11 over Rockets run.
06:57 And then Aaron Holiday tried to throw a lob to him, a lob to him and Thompson.
07:01 He blocked it out of the way.
07:02 It kind of has a steal on the box score, but it was effectively a block.
07:05 Then he ran the floor, got a dunk.
07:07 It was still an 11 to Houston run at that point, but you may have had to call it to
07:11 him out because he knew what was happening.
07:12 Right.
07:13 And so that halted that fourth quarter comes in Celtics up ninety three eighty two.
07:20 Seven minutes left in the game.
07:21 And then the Rockets go on an eight to run ninety three ninety right in the span of two
07:26 minutes.
07:27 Missoula puts Cornette back in the game.
07:30 He immediately blocks Nate Williams at the rim, gets a rebound and then Porzingis it's
07:36 a turnaround jumper.
07:39 And then he blocks Dylan Brooks at the rim, kicks up the floor to Tatum, who kicks it
07:44 to Houser, kicks it to Pritchard for a three and the Celtics are up by eight again.
07:48 Those are two runs that Luke Cornette stopped like pretty much by himself, that he just
07:52 like completely halted the Rockets momentum.
07:55 And on top of that, he had an awesome game yesterday.
07:58 I think he had eight and nine with three blocks.
08:01 So I he was huge in that game.
08:03 And there's a lot of people that still think he sucks.
08:05 And I don't understand it.
08:07 Yeah.
08:08 He takes some real unnecessary slack.
08:11 I mean, you saw yesterday and usually there's not as many, quote unquote, sexy plays that
08:17 he's making.
08:18 He's just more of like a fundamentally sound individual and it's effective screens.
08:23 It's good, quick passes.
08:24 It's things of that nature.
08:25 But yesterday when you add in the blocks, for example, he gets the Duncan transition
08:30 that you referenced.
08:31 He was so crucial to that win, easily the best player among the second unit.
08:37 And so, yeah, he was huge for them last night.
08:41 And I think it showed because they started the second quarter with Kata in their solo.
08:47 And that's something they're starting to experiment more with.
08:50 Usually he's alongside Al Horford.
08:52 Obviously Horford wasn't available last night, but they also did this in the Spurs game with
08:56 Kata.
08:57 And what happened was you can question some of the calls with verticality that went against
09:01 them, but he picked up three quick fouls and he had to go to the bench.
09:06 And so it was just kind of an opportunity that whether you want to call it his fault
09:09 or not, he didn't capitalize on it.
09:12 And Luke Cornette really stepped up and showed them why he is ahead of them on the depth
09:16 chart for a reason.
09:18 And a very good player who I think depending on the matchup, but is most likely to get
09:23 the nod for playoff minutes off the bench before Kata does.
09:29 I just couldn't stop laughing when you were talking about Cornette checking into the game
09:33 because all I could picture is him trotting up to the scorers table and like the Superman
09:36 theme is playing as he's coming to save the day.
09:40 But like nothing you said is untrue.
09:42 Like he came in, made a massive impact yet.
09:45 He's still going to get hate.
09:46 Like the next time he fumbles a pass or something stupid like that, people are going to get
09:50 mad at him.
09:52 The fact of the matter is Luke Cornette has been a fantastic option as a third string
09:56 big guy.
09:57 He has brought himself to Tice level of, I can trust him to eat minutes when the other
10:04 guys need a rest or even take on a bigger role.
10:07 If somebody's injured.
10:08 He had a great game as a starter against Toronto.
10:10 He had 20 points.
10:11 He started the other day too.
10:13 And he did pretty solid.
10:14 I forget who they play.
10:16 Wednesday.
10:17 Yeah.
10:18 He was fine in that game too.
10:21 Like they put them on Wendy and he was doing solid beat him in the tip.
10:25 I would love to know when he's record and tips.
10:28 Cause then if he's like really good at jump balls, you could be like Cornette, one of
10:32 the elite at jump balls.
10:34 Put it, put it on the resume.
10:35 I mean, Marvin Bagley jr. just found out about how good of a vertical when he has really,
10:40 Oh, he got posterized.
10:42 Oh, he got killed yesterday.
10:44 It was vicious.
10:45 It was two nights ago.
10:47 And uh, yeah, I think Marvin Bagley was so bad.
10:49 Might have to sign it.
10:51 Bagley has been like balling in Washington though, which is weird.
10:55 He has catastrophe, but he does.
10:57 He's like first got to Detroit.
10:59 He, I know, I know, I know it's fake.
11:02 It's all fake.
11:03 It's all fake.
11:04 It's all fake.
11:05 It's all fake.
11:06 It's all fake.
11:07 Um, yeah, Luke's been great.
11:08 He's been fine.
11:09 I saw something on Twitter that said the only time when B loses the jump balls when they
11:11 steal it and then they showed Luke going like a half second early and just like, you know,
11:15 get it from him before it hit the apex of the shot.
11:17 It's so good that he has Spurs fans crying.
11:20 Think about that.
11:21 They are on Twitter crying that he stole the jump ball.
11:24 If you don't have haters, you're not popping.
11:27 That's right.
11:28 Uh, yeah, that's been great.
11:32 Playing the Rockets game.
11:33 Good in the Spurs game as well.
11:35 Um, wonder if we'll get any minutes tonight with Warford back.
11:40 I mean, obviously he's been getting that sort of eight to 10 range, sometimes 15, but also
11:45 curious to see who plays tonight against the Mavericks as you're listening to this.
11:50 Cause the Celtics did rack up a lot of minutes in that Rockets game on the first night of
11:53 the back to back person.
11:54 He said he wants to play in back to back.
11:55 So I just wonder if the Celtics will let him, but to be smart, especially recently on the
11:59 injury report, it's been right knee inflammation.
12:01 That's new.
12:02 So you have to be careful here.
12:04 I agree.
12:05 I wonder if they have to get creative with the injury report.
12:08 So the NBA will be like, listen, I don't know how long you can manage this right calf strain.
12:13 They have to make up something new.
12:15 Uh, Bobby, what are you looking for in this math game?
12:18 Uh, it's going to be interesting to see what happens here in terms of how do they want
12:25 to go on Luka Donjic.
12:26 I would think drew holidays leader in the clubhouse, but you know, your boy Derek white
12:31 will get some opportunities I suspect as they spin the dial.
12:35 And then it's also the ability to match up with both of those top guards.
12:41 And then, you know, Dallas, they can throw their own curve ball at you and change the
12:44 pace when they bring in Hardy, for example, and switch it up.
12:47 So just in terms of the defensive structure, I think it's all going to flow pretty naturally
12:52 just from having drew on Donjic, but it will be interesting to see how those matchups evolve
12:58 and how Joe Mazzuolo and Charles Lee decide to mix it up as the game progresses.
13:04 I'm curious to see how they managed to get Derek lively away from the rim, uh, make him
13:08 guard the perimeter.
13:09 He, he is definitely a vertical threat.
13:11 He's athletic.
13:12 He can protect the paint and he's been really great for them unless he's injured.
13:15 Jack smirked.
13:16 I hope he's not injured.
13:17 Uh, no, I'm only smirking cause like the answer is just Chris tops.
13:22 That's the answer.
13:23 Like that's what I mean.
13:24 Like I wonder how effective he's going to be able to be because of Chris stops because
13:27 of the way the Celtics can space the floor.
13:29 And also maybe Chris tops isn't out there.
13:31 No, he, I hope he's out there.
13:34 Uh, cause they have two days off after this.
13:36 No excuses, no excuses.
13:38 That's why he's in shorts though.
13:40 When he goes on the plane in 18 degree weather.
13:42 So the, the knee gets like natural icing instead of like him having to hold an ice pack to
13:47 it.
13:48 It just all cold everywhere, but no lively has been really good for Dallas.
13:53 He was like a supplementary piece of the big story of the spring of them tanking on purpose
13:58 to get into the lottery so they didn't have to give their pickup and it's worked out for
14:01 them.
14:02 So credit to them right now, there's six in the West.
14:05 If they're in the East, they'd be around in the same spot, 24 and 18.
14:09 But uh, you know, the defensive matchups are really the exciting part of this.
14:13 Like Bobby said, drew on holiday.
14:16 If Kyrie is playing, which I assume he is, Derek white will have that true on holiday.
14:20 Yeah, that's cheap.
14:21 Jack on Luca, it's a cheap shot.
14:26 Luca who looks like he's always on a holiday.
14:29 You know what?
14:30 I almost want to see them put jail and on Luca jail has been great on defense and a
14:34 lot of these matchups he locked up for, although they didn't end up winning cause they couldn't
14:38 score.
14:39 He locked up Murray at the end of that nuggets game.
14:41 I know the concept of don't put your star on the best player, et cetera, until the end
14:44 of the game.
14:45 So they can focus on offense.
14:46 Tatum didn't guard SGA till the end because it'd be taking a huge toll to have him as
14:51 a primary option.
14:52 And also that was initiated.
14:53 Sorry to cut you off, but that wasn't the coach that that was Tatum.
14:57 So yeah, on SGA also true.
14:59 So I wonder if the Murray thing was jail and saying, give me this matchup.
15:03 I would like to see that at some point in the game though, cause I think jail has been
15:06 having a really good defensive season.
15:07 I think he probably matches up one on one better than anybody else with the size.
15:11 Um, I, it'll probably end up being drew.
15:14 Um, and then Kyrie, I have to imagine it'd be Derek white.
15:17 He gets a lot of those matchups with the smaller guards, but, um, yeah, the maps have been
15:21 solid this season, regardless of Luca.
15:23 I know Luca has been out for a little bit.
15:25 I think he just came back, right?
15:27 Yeah.
15:28 Injury reports, it says Seth Curry, Dante eggs, I'm questionable.
15:30 Um, so we'll have to see.
15:33 Um, but Kyrie has been cooking and then obviously great Williams is also, uh, he's been doing
15:38 the opposite.
15:39 He's not, he's been setting, but he's playing his former team.
15:44 And uh, Jalen Brown said he wasn't looking forward to it.
15:46 As you mentioned, Bobby, neither are Mavericks fans.
15:49 Apparently not.
15:51 Yeah, not great.
15:53 Uh, yeah, go ahead.
15:55 The grant Williams deadpan answer was great where he gets asked, are you looking forward
15:58 to seeing him?
15:59 He's like, not really.
16:00 He's like, I'll probably have an annoying game.
16:03 I just to circle back, cause I want to give Tatum credit here.
16:07 We even saw it last year, especially when the Mavericks came to TD garden, that he is
16:13 the best option to guard Donchik.
16:15 Like you said, there's a pacing issue there, but last year Tatum came into that game against
16:20 the Mavs at home where he was dealing with the ankle injury.
16:24 So they didn't want him to defend Luca and instead they were pre-switching with grant
16:28 Williams.
16:29 But Donchik was cooking everyone, especially when Sam Hauser ended up on him, he was just
16:33 going right through his chest.
16:35 So finally they said, okay, Tatum, we got no choice here.
16:38 We've got to slow this down.
16:39 And he locked him up.
16:41 And then again, because of pacing and the ankle, they switched him off and Donchik still
16:45 had, I think like 39 points or something crazy.
16:48 But when Tatum was on him, he silenced them.
16:51 So I think he is the best option and remains that.
16:55 But again, I think there's comfort in Drew holiday and I would like to see Jalen Brown
17:00 get that opportunity, even though I think we've seen in the past that it hasn't gone
17:05 well for him.
17:06 He's still at a different level defensively this season.
17:10 Yeah.
17:11 I mean, if Jalen's in a garden could be a added value thing is he's struggled the last
17:17 two games on offense.
17:18 Like there's no guarantee he'll struggle today.
17:20 I hope he comes out and cooks in the fourth, fourth, or I guess fourth too, but first quarter,
17:25 he did struggle against Houston to be fair, you know, as a score, sure.
17:28 But he also had 10 assists, really more.
17:31 There were some, he didn't seem to get credit for in the box score and just consistently
17:35 making the simple and correct read.
17:38 Like they're loading up to stop him and Tatum.
17:40 So it's just, okay, I'm just going to dump it into Porzingis in the mid post, for example,
17:45 or I'm going to push the pace and get someone to transition bucket.
17:48 So yeah, as a score, only 13 points for sure.
17:52 I'm with you, but overall offensive impact, I still thought he had a good game.
17:56 Sure.
17:57 Yeah.
17:58 I meant more as a score.
17:59 Like that's not a normal Jalen game for him to only have 13 points, but to your point,
18:03 it is important for him to be able to do other things.
18:06 It's something Jack and I talk about with Tatum all the time, because I love to trash
18:09 him and hold them to an extremely high standard because he's the guy, but he does all these
18:14 other things, even when he's not scoring.
18:15 And it's not something that we've seen a ton from Brown in the past, but his added intensity
18:21 on the defensive end, even in that nuggets loss, like Jack mentioned with Jamal Murray
18:25 was so impressive.
18:26 Like that's a crazy level of locked in from Jalen that we don't really see that often.
18:31 So if Luca gets him up out of the chair today to play defense, I'm all for it.
18:35 I'm in, I would love to see it.
18:38 Agreed.
18:39 I agree.
18:40 It would be cool.
18:41 But also great.
18:42 Hadley Gardner, also grant.
18:44 I said this to Sam last night and Bobby, you know, I'm big grant guy.
18:47 I think he is an effective player when he's at his best.
18:49 I think Sam has it right now is better than grant ever was in the Celtics uniform.
18:53 And I think that's saying a lot.
18:55 And I think it's correct.
18:56 Ever.
18:57 I can't go.
18:58 I can't go grant at his peak because there were some excellent, like forget the bucks
19:03 game seven that some people will be pointing to right now, because I was just making open
19:07 threes credit to him, but like nothing spectacular, but there were some defensive performances
19:13 against and bead that were outstanding.
19:16 And when you combine those with, you know, an overall effective shooting night from beyond
19:21 the arc, I'd give that to grant Williams.
19:24 But I think in the postseason in particular is a chance where maybe Sam Houser could do
19:28 something that surpasses that.
19:30 Yeah.
19:31 How's there's a weird case for me because we haven't seen him play in the playoffs yet.
19:35 So it's really hard to evaluate what he's going to give you in that situation.
19:40 I told Jack this yesterday, like, I don't think he's been great lately in the box score
19:44 disagrees.
19:45 But my eye test, just like I don't have like the same confidence I had in him early in
19:49 the season when he shoots.
19:50 Sam and I got in a screaming match about Sam Houser.
19:52 It was like a fun screaming match.
19:54 I thought he had a good game.
19:55 No, no, no.
19:56 I need to clarify.
19:57 I mean, matches are only fun for you.
19:59 Yeah.
20:00 First of all, maybe you just don't like them.
20:01 But I, of course, I don't.
20:02 I've told you on most occasions I hate being angry, but you love being angry, which sucks.
20:07 He pulls it out of you.
20:08 Well, it's like it's like, oh, angry.
20:10 It's not real angry.
20:12 It's for you.
20:13 Maybe you are.
20:14 I get really angry.
20:15 I was like, I was like, we need to have like screaming matches are good once a while.
20:18 And I'm like, I don't even remember, like the last one.
20:20 It was like about Belichick.
20:21 I was like, oh, yeah, I forgot.
20:23 We even like argued about that.
20:24 I guess we stress.
20:25 Well, Sam's whole thing was he's like Sam was like Sam Houser sucked lately because
20:29 he hasn't made a shot.
20:31 And I said he hasn't been shooting well, which isn't even necessarily true.
20:35 He's had a couple of rough shooting games, but like overall, he's shooting like 38 percent
20:39 his last eight or something like he's not playing that bad.
20:42 It's just we're seeing growth in other areas, whether it's getting points off crazy, finishing
20:47 at the rim, putting the ball on the deck and making something happen.
20:51 So and not to mention the defense and like, I don't care who he's guarding.
20:55 He's Bobby.
20:56 That doesn't matter if he doesn't make his shots.
20:57 Right, Sam.
20:59 So this was the pissing my last night.
21:01 My argument was, I don't think the missed shots should just be excused because he's
21:06 getting rebounds.
21:07 I never said they were excused.
21:09 I said I said I said, I don't think Houser's been very good lately because he's missing
21:13 shots.
21:14 And then you said, well, what about this?
21:15 And I said, that's not what I'm talking about.
21:17 I know.
21:18 I said I said I'm not excusing the missed shots.
21:21 He should still make his shots, obviously, but I think it's impressive and notable and
21:25 should be credited that he was able to play 30 minutes and still be effective while also
21:29 shooting three for 12 a season ago.
21:31 He'd be on the bench in a case like this.
21:34 OK, anyways, I think that's it.
21:40 I hate getting mad.
21:41 I want to tell you, Grant.
21:43 Sure.
21:44 Let's talk.
21:45 So you go ahead.
21:46 I don't know if like everybody coming into this game knows like how Grant season has
21:50 gone.
21:51 I know Jack and I talked about it not long ago on a full pod, I think, but he went from,
21:57 OK, wow.
21:58 Like he's a great fit in Dallas to he's still like doing OK, but like he's not at that same
22:03 level to, oh, he might suck to, oh wow.
22:06 He really does suck.
22:07 And that's gone month by month, October, 12.3 points.
22:11 I'll just do the points.
22:12 It's quicker on 48, 45 splits, nine point two points in November on 43, 42 splits.
22:20 December seven point nine points, 39, 32 percent split or 33 of you round up January five points,
22:30 36, 824 percent from three.
22:34 He's not good right now.
22:36 The Mavs fans are none too pleased.
22:39 And Grant not looking like the grant of old.
22:44 Too big for his britches.
22:46 I think that he becomes not even a trade chip, more like salary filler at this point.
22:52 Oh no, Grant.
22:53 I mean, I still think this out.
22:56 They should have kept him.
22:57 But that's hindsight 2020 because we didn't all know that Rob was going to get traded
23:00 when the grant thing happened.
23:03 But that they again, we actually talked about it on this show a while ago that it's one
23:08 thing to go over the second apron for Drew Holiday.
23:11 It's another to do it for Grant Williams, who's sometimes he's in the rotation.
23:15 A lot of the times he's not.
23:19 It's tough, man.
23:20 Still not my money.
23:21 Tough for Grant.
23:23 But there are penalties to the second.
23:25 So it's fair.
23:27 Yeah.
23:29 Last thing before we do trivia, very brief and kind of irrelevant to this.
23:33 You guys see Herb Jones is available for trade.
23:36 I only I bring I want to spot track and then I got disappointed and didn't care anymore.
23:40 He doesn't.
23:41 Well, the reason you should care is if I had to guess where he ends up, if he does get
23:46 traded, I don't think he gets traded.
23:47 If I'm Milwaukee, I'm saying, please, God, we need defense.
23:52 And that would be very annoying for the Celtics to have to do.
23:55 Do you see the rumors about the Bucs being interested in Deshante Murray?
24:00 Yeah.
24:01 Yeah.
24:02 How does that work?
24:03 Yeah.
24:04 Well, I know I said this to Jack.
24:05 I was like seeing all this Buck stuff like they're in on Deshante Murray.
24:09 What that should make you feel good as a Celtics fan.
24:12 Cause I mean, everybody watching around the league knows that the Bucs are bad on defense,
24:17 but this confirms that the team is concerned about that.
24:21 Cause there have been times throughout seasons where it's like, oh yeah, this team's bad,
24:26 but they'll flip the switch.
24:27 Like a lot of those LeBron calves teams were like that.
24:30 Milwaukee's like a team you could make the pitch for with that where, oh, it's the honest,
24:34 like the playoffs will come and you know, he'll get his teammates up at another level.
24:38 Dame time is going to be crazy.
24:39 And you just keep going down the line with the Middleton will step up, but no, like they're
24:44 kind of scared.
24:45 Like they don't think they're ready.
24:46 They don't think they have enough and wanting Deshante Murray makes them look desperate.
24:53 Not that he's bad, but no, he's good.
24:55 My take off of the Bucs.
24:56 All right.
24:57 Trivia time.
24:58 Y'all ready?
24:59 Let's do it.
25:01 Any final thoughts before we get into it, Bobby, any, anything else we missed or you
25:03 wanted to talk about?
25:04 No, but I like the Pelicans team, especially when Zion's available.
25:09 I would hate to see them sell off legitimate rotation today.
25:13 Yeah, it was a report from, I think it was Matt Moore of Action Network.
25:20 And it was something along the lines of like, yeah, open to moving Herb Jones.
25:24 Pelicans are thought to be open to moving or Jones.
25:25 They're high on Jones, but it'll be difficult to pay the team stars, Jones and Trey Murphy
25:29 the third.
25:30 So black.
25:31 Okay, last one, not last one, trivia time.
25:37 So question there.
25:39 I have two things here.
25:40 One is Celtics.
25:42 One is NBA.
25:43 And you're going to say, oh, do the Celtics one.
25:44 We're going to run out of Celtics once eventually.
25:45 And then we'll have a string of all NBA ones.
25:47 Would you rather me mix in an NBA one here in a while or just have them all at the end?
25:51 Bobby's choice.
25:52 You want the last series.
25:53 Thank you.
25:54 Parade is tomorrow, by the way.
25:57 Just want to remind everyone.
25:58 Do you want to do an NBA series now?
26:00 We just did seven games Celtics.
26:01 We did one that was NBA.
26:04 No, you guys vetoed it.
26:06 We have not done an NBA one yet.
26:08 We could do that.
26:09 I'll let Sam decide if he wants an NBA series or just as a palate cleanser.
26:14 We'll start with a palate cleanser.
26:15 We'll see.
26:16 We'll make a decision going forward for what it's worth.
26:19 It's still this one isn't completely random.
26:21 It's still local and you'll understand in a second.
26:24 Okay, let me pull up a sheet.
26:26 We'll go through the 21 or sorry, 1989 to 2018.
26:30 So 2018 is a cut off in this one.
26:33 We'll make this series one to zero.
26:36 Bobby 00.
26:37 Why is it one?
26:38 Yeah, I'm marking.
26:39 Yeah, I got you.
26:40 I got you.
26:41 Okay.
26:42 Oh, I thought I thought my whole column went away.
26:48 It's like, you know, it just glitches like that.
26:50 All right, from 1989 to 2018, eight Boston College players were picked in the first round
26:56 of the NBA draft.
26:57 Name those eight players.
26:58 Oh, Bobby's on the clock.
27:01 Bobby.
27:02 Yep.
27:03 Right.
27:04 Probably correct.
27:05 Sam, Dana Barrows.
27:08 Yep.
27:09 There we go.
27:12 One to you, Bobby.
27:18 Between two people, I'm going to be I'm not confident in either guess, but I'll trot out
27:25 Reggie Jackson.
27:26 Correct.
27:27 Oh, I forgot about him.
27:31 Just in town the other day.
27:33 Got mentioned on this pod earlier.
27:36 See, this is where we've hit the wall.
27:40 Oh, no.
27:43 I'm gonna pass.
27:47 All right, Bobby.
27:51 This is a hard one.
27:52 I don't know anything about college basketball.
27:55 I'm going to go for a home run swing here.
27:57 Roy Bell.
27:59 Yeah, that's crazy.
28:02 That's insane that you cut.
28:04 I don't even know that is.
28:06 He was nasty in college.
28:08 I bet.
28:09 Yeah, obviously the first round pick.
28:13 There's one more name on here that I know.
28:15 So I don't know what that's.
28:19 Yeah, this is tough.
28:23 Pass.
28:24 I'm not like I have nowhere to even like grab at my head.
28:28 Like I'm not going to waste everyone's time.
28:30 Bobby, do you have any more?
28:32 I might as well take a chance on it.
28:33 Craig Smith.
28:34 Yeah.
28:35 Craig Smith.
28:36 No, no.
28:37 Craig Smith.
28:38 There is one in a recent draft.
28:39 I can give that clue.
28:40 How many total players?
28:41 Oh, I got that.
28:42 Are on this list.
28:43 I think it's Robinson lottery.
28:45 Close enough.
28:46 Jerome Robinson.
28:47 Yeah.
28:48 Yeah.
28:49 I reached.
28:50 I was given this one to Bobby.
28:51 Do we want to do another card and just put Bobby up one of the series?
28:52 This trivia.
28:53 Yeah.
28:54 OK.
28:55 It's true.
28:56 You know, it's card.
28:57 So I'm not everything you don't know is Mickey Mouse.
28:59 Yeah, it is.
29:00 That's the rule.
29:01 They're not.
29:02 That's the whole point of saying Mickey Mouse.
29:05 This is just not the whole point.
29:09 How many?
29:10 How many players are on that card?
29:11 Eight.
29:12 I don't think I could name eight Boston College players.
29:15 Sure.
29:16 Yeah, I believe that's in Ryan.
29:19 I did.
29:20 One there.
29:21 I knew Reggie Jackson.
29:23 I knew Dudley.
29:24 I knew Jerome Robinson.
29:25 I couldn't have gone past that, I suppose.
29:28 Yeah.
29:29 All right.
29:30 That's fine.
29:31 The other.
29:32 I just put it away.
29:33 There was the big guy who played for the Celtics might have been a first round pick.
29:39 Really athletic.
29:40 Jack.
29:41 I can't remember his name.
29:42 Bill Curley, Paul Grant, Sean Williams.
29:45 That's him.
29:46 Sean Williams.
29:47 I knew all of them played for the Celtics at one point.
29:49 There we go.
29:50 All right, Bobby, I want to win the series.
29:53 We'll do second card, though, because that one was lame through 2021.
29:57 Key Year 2021.
29:59 The Celtics have played in the NBA finals 21 times, but only six different franchises
30:03 have served as their opponents.
30:04 Bobby, I'll let you lead it off again since you did win that and you won the series anyways
30:09 last time.
30:10 We're going to have a few parades tomorrow.
30:11 Just want to remind everyone again, Houston Rockets.
30:14 Correct.
30:15 Sam.
30:16 We'll do the ladies.
30:17 I know, I know, I know, I know, I know.
30:18 I was like, whoa, there.
30:19 Okay, Bobby, back to you.
30:20 The St. Louis Hawks.
30:21 Correct.
30:22 Good one.
30:23 Sam.
30:24 Phoenix Suns.
30:25 Good one.
30:26 Yeah, I knew that's where you're going.
30:27 Yep.
30:28 Okay.
30:39 The Golden State Warriors.
30:40 You got two more.
30:41 This is through 2021.
30:42 Oh, no.
30:43 I did.
30:44 I did clarify that.
30:45 Sam, would you want to give Bobby another guess or do you want to?
30:46 Of course he doesn't.
30:47 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
30:48 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
30:49 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
30:50 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
30:51 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
30:52 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
30:53 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
30:54 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
30:55 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
30:56 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
30:57 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
30:58 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
30:59 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
31:00 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
31:01 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
31:02 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
31:03 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
31:04 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
31:05 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
31:06 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
31:07 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
31:08 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
31:09 I think that's got to be on you as the moderator.
31:10 Yeah, okay, okay.
31:11 Sam, I'll throw it to you.
31:12 Go ahead.
31:13 There's one more.
31:27 Does this team still exist?
31:28 Alright, I need to say it is the San Francisco Warriors.
31:34 Oh no, give them the answer then, you prick.
31:36 Okay, okay.
31:37 Well, do you want me to give you the fucking like, supersonics for the thunder?
31:41 It's not like it's called something different now.
31:43 Like they moved.
31:44 They literally, the year that they played the Celtics two years ago, they had jerseys that said San Francisco.
31:50 Yeah, but they're in San Francisco.
31:52 Houston has H-Town, or the H-Town Rockets.
31:55 No.
31:56 No, that counts.
31:57 Alright.
31:58 You didn't even like question it at the, uh, I didn't hear it first, I'm sorry.
32:03 Okay, Sam, equally, if you call me a prick for that, but then on the other side, I would have gotten in trouble if Sam was like,
32:09 "No, they're called San Francisco! I was gonna get them on a technicality!"
32:13 No, I wouldn't have done that.
32:14 I would have gotten the prick, Sam.
32:15 I tell you what my favorite part of this is?
32:17 We've woken Jack up.
32:21 It's more of like, you didn't even like say, "Well, like maybe."
32:27 Well, again, if you were gonna get them on a technicality because you knew it and he didn't, then I'm not gonna ruin that.
32:33 Wait, did Bobby, did you say the Golden State Warriors or did you say Warriors?
32:36 I said the Golden State Warriors.
32:37 If I had said Warriors, I think it would have required a follow-up too.
32:40 I'm gonna edit myself out.
32:41 I wouldn't have, as the moderator, accepted Warriors.
32:45 I would have needed a clarification, but then once you ask it, you're kind of tipping the hem.
32:50 Exactly.
32:52 You're so angry.
32:55 Well, 'cause you're either gonna think one way or the other, then you're gonna be mad at me regardless, which is just--
33:00 I'll tell you right now, I would not have been mad at you regardless.
33:02 I wasn't doing it just to get mad.
33:05 I'm not the worst.
33:07 All right.
33:08 That's a tie game then.
33:09 So--
33:12 Let me--
33:13 You play on.
33:14 This is horrible.
33:15 Yeah, do we just go to another card?
33:16 You know what?
33:17 Play on.
33:18 Yeah.
33:19 Jeez.
33:20 I gotta find another card.
33:23 I can't get over this.
33:24 I've ruined this morning.
33:26 Yeah.
33:28 There's definitely Chick-fil-A coming after this.
33:30 Yeah.
33:31 I already ordered it.
33:32 You just get an extra one.
33:33 It's already on the way.
33:34 Yeah, it's already ordered.
33:35 Don't worry.
33:36 One of these times, you do need to get the lemonade.
33:38 Yeah.
33:39 No, he said he hates lemonade.
33:40 I tried it.
33:41 I thought it was too sour.
33:42 I wasn't a huge fan.
33:43 I did try it, though.
33:44 I did try it.
33:45 I'm a big fan of the sweet tea.
33:46 I've got a sweet tooth, so it's a--
33:47 Yeah.
33:48 I'm telling you, Panera lemonade, save it for days like this.
33:51 Nope, don't wanna die.
33:52 I haven't been to Panera in a long time.
33:54 Are you bread-bowling up, Sarah?
33:56 What did you say?
33:57 Are you bread-bowling up?
33:59 Bread-bowl is great.
34:00 Maybe back in my prime.
34:02 Not today.
34:04 You're not in the prime anymore?
34:05 No.
34:06 Back in my prime.
34:07 Tell Jack to stop the show.
34:08 When Sam says in his prime, that means when he was fat, like me.
34:11 Well, when I was not caring about what I ate.
34:13 But I used to go to McDonald's at 2 in the morning after playing 2K and get quarter pounder,
34:18 double quarter pounder, 20-piece nugget, fries.
34:21 It was a crazy meal.
34:23 Got the card.
34:24 Okay.
34:25 There's 7 on it, too, so we can't advertise.
34:27 7, okay.
34:28 All right.
34:30 Let me delete these.
34:33 Including 2 selected in the draft, the Timberwolves acquired 7 players by trading Kevin Garnett
34:41 to the Celtics.
34:42 Who goes first in this one?
34:44 You guys.
34:45 Bobby can, because we tied.
34:46 He can continue to go first.
34:47 Okay.
34:48 Bobby.
34:49 Al Jefferson.
34:50 Yep.
34:51 Sam.
34:52 Gerald Green.
34:54 Yep.
34:55 Sebastian Telfair.
34:58 Yep.
35:00 Keep going, Sam.
35:04 Providence College legend, Ryan Gomes.
35:06 Rhode Island legend, cousin of Michael Pina.
35:09 Ryan Gomes.
35:10 There we go.
35:11 Bobby, back to you.
35:12 Ricky Davis.
35:13 Not Ricky Davis.
35:14 No?
35:15 Oh, no.
35:16 I'm actually drawing a blank here, too.
35:17 I'm trying to think of the draft picks.
35:18 No Ricky Davis.
35:19 Did Johnny Flynn end up being one of the draft picks?
35:34 He was in that trade, yeah.
35:35 Well done.
35:36 I wasn't getting Flynn, to be honest.
35:37 Could have been Steph.
35:38 That's poor of you.
35:39 That's what you should have done.
35:40 Gotta revoke your orange card there, Bobby.
35:41 Theo Ratliff.
35:42 Yes.
35:43 Theo Ratliff, correct.
35:44 Oh, man.
35:45 It's another one of the draft picks.
35:46 One left.
35:47 I'll do an O'Shea Percet piece to get the orange card back.
35:48 Okay, okay.
35:49 Good call.
35:50 Oh, no.
35:51 One left.
35:52 Whoever gets it wins this game of the series that has gone into double overtime.
35:53 I just don't know.

36:24 I'm trying to think of draft picks.
36:26 I don't know if he was drafted by them.
36:29 I like the draft.
36:30 I like the guess.
36:31 He was drafted by the Timberwolves.
36:32 You're correct, but he was like top ten, I think.
36:34 Do you want me to tell you what pick of the draft this guy was?
36:37 Is this someone we would actually know who it is?
36:39 Yeah, you know this one.
36:40 Okay.
36:41 That's up to Sam if he wants this clue.
36:44 Do we want what pick of the draft it was?
36:46 Okay.
36:47 Go ahead, Bobby.
36:49 I don't know if you'll know.
36:50 So then, just for the record, the clue has to come after Sam's next guess.
36:54 Yeah.
36:55 Randy Foy.
36:57 No.
36:58 I think that's a guy I had in my head, so this is really bad.
37:05 There will be a clue after Sam.
37:06 Is it Pekovich?
37:12 Nope.
37:13 This guy was the 28th pick in the 2009 NBA draft.
37:21 Johnny Flynn was six, by the way, in case you're wondering, right before.
37:24 Tough.
37:27 28th pick.
37:30 Timberwolves legend.
37:32 Jerahli was 17.
37:33 Yeah.
37:35 There are some clues that will help give it away, so I'll give a clue after each round of two guesses from now on, so we can get this rocking and rolling.
37:49 Yeah.
37:50 Let's just go to the clues.
37:51 I don't have a name.
37:52 Sam?
37:53 I'm fine with it.
37:54 Another clue?
37:55 All right.
37:56 This guy has played for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.
38:01 He played for nine NBA teams.
38:03 Yeah.
38:04 That's the clue.
38:07 That help at all, or do we need more?
38:09 It didn't help me, I can tell you that.
38:11 Need two votes for more if we want another one.
38:13 I'm just trying to think.
38:15 I don't know if that guy played on that many teams.
38:18 That guy was also a top pick.
38:21 Yeah, no.
38:22 Go ahead.
38:23 Okay.
38:24 This guy has been traded.
38:26 Throughout the course of his career, he's traded 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 times.
38:32 Anything?
38:35 Anything?
38:36 Anything?
38:37 Six times.
38:38 Six times was traded.
38:40 This is useless, so I'm not going to count it.
38:43 It'll be part of the clue.
38:45 In one of the trades, one of the draft picks that was traded in the deal
38:49 ended up being Thin Asses.
38:51 A little smudge on his permanent record there.
38:54 There should be a link to that.
38:56 Traded six times.
38:58 Mm-hmm.
38:59 I can tell you where he's currently playing.
39:05 Let me go take a look.
39:07 He's currently playing.
39:08 No, no, no, no, no, no, not currently playing.
39:11 What I said was, let me go see where he's currently playing
39:14 to see if I can give you anything from that perspective.
39:17 Not that that would necessarily help, but not currently playing.
39:22 Bobby, another clue?
39:24 Yeah, I got no names.
39:26 All right, I have a clue that could give it away.
39:29 Should we just do first one to say it at this point?
39:32 Or do you guys still want to go turn to turn?
39:35 If it's going to give it away, it should be first one to say it.
39:38 It's up to Sam.
39:40 Most well-known.
39:42 Sam, do you want the clue that's first one,
39:44 that's walking us to the answer?
39:47 Yeah, yeah.
39:48 We have no idea who this person is.
39:51 I don't know if this will immediately get away,
39:53 but in my mind, this player is most well-known for his time with the Heat.
39:58 In my mind.
40:00 He didn't spend more than three years with any team.
40:03 He spent three years to start his career with Minnesota.
40:05 He spent three years or two and a half years in Miami,
40:08 but I do think he was best well-known there.
40:10 Had the best years of his career there.
40:12 I'm going to guess.
40:14 No.
40:16 I didn't think he came out of Minnesota.
40:18 Oh, wait.
40:19 Wait a minute.
40:20 Well, I mean, I guess I'll just make the guess,
40:22 but I don't think it's going to be it.
40:24 James Johnson.
40:26 Not James Johnson.
40:27 Not currently playing.
40:28 Yeah.
40:30 His best year was 2017,
40:32 2018.
40:34 Averaged 11 points.
40:37 Shot 39% from deep on 7.5 attempts a game.
40:42 It's a big clue.
40:46 I have a nickname that will absolutely get you in the game.
40:50 I have a nickname that will absolutely get you.
40:56 No, no, no.
40:57 Hold on to the nickname.
40:59 Let's at least think about it for a second.
41:01 It's an electric nickname.
41:03 Very sick nickname.

41:07 Very unique nickname.
41:09 Shot a bunch of threes for the Heat.
41:11 Currently a development coach with the Heat,
41:13 which I didn't know, but.
41:15 Development coach with the Heat.
41:18 No, no, definitely not him.
41:24 Bizarre.
41:25 Oh my God.
41:26 Yeah.
41:27 No, this definitely isn't it.
41:29 Is it Goran Droddich?
41:31 No.
41:32 No.
41:36 Do we want the nickname?
41:40 It's up to Bobby.
41:41 Bobby.
41:42 Yeah, I'm ready for the nickname.
41:44 Sam.
41:45 Yes.
41:46 Man with the golden arm.
41:48 Man with the golden arm.
41:50 That doesn't give it away.
41:51 It's a great nickname.
41:52 Wow.
41:53 I thought you guys would get that.
41:54 What else can I say?
41:55 What the hell, Jack?
41:57 That's a great nickname.
41:58 Don't what the hell me for your unculturedness.
42:01 Went to UNC.
42:05 Ended his career with the Lakers in 21-22.
42:08 John May.
42:09 No.
42:10 No, he was a high pick.
42:11 21.
42:16 The last three years in 2020, 21 and 22 with the Knicks Pistons Lakers.
42:19 All right, pump the brakes.
42:20 Rashad McCants.
42:21 No.
42:22 Please let us think about this for a half.
42:24 You've been thinking about it for 10 minutes, frozen boy.
42:27 Jack, don't.
42:29 All right.
42:34 Oh my gosh.
42:36 Who could this be?
42:38 I'm shocked.
42:41 Oh my gosh.
42:46 I can't believe this.
42:48 Another clue if we want it.
42:49 It's not a basketball clue, but it's a clue that might help you get there.
42:52 Golden arm.
42:54 Went to UNC.
42:58 Heat 17-18.

43:23 Thank you.
43:24 My God.
43:25 I was like, come on.
43:32 He was totally escaping me.
43:34 I'm not mad because that name did not pop up for me.
43:37 I was like, I cannot get any more specific than little Wayne.
43:46 At that point, you were like, it rhymes with Wayne Ellington.
43:49 Yeah, right.
43:51 That was awesome.
43:53 Man with the golden arm is electric.
43:55 That's a great nickname.
43:56 I'm surprised.
43:57 That's a good one.
43:58 Did he play football or something?
44:00 Where does that come from?
44:02 Sharp shooter.
44:04 Nailed us three.
44:05 I don't even remember him with Miami at this point.
44:10 Really?
44:11 He's been on a ton of teams.
44:14 Maybe it's just me then.
44:16 I knew it was one of those guys that was like a random Heat guy.
44:19 It's like him.
44:20 I almost want to say CJ Miles, but I don't think CJ Miles played there.
44:23 Tyler Johnson.
44:24 That's the type of guy I was thinking of.
44:26 I was like, I know it's one of these spin the wheel shooter guys.
44:30 There's a zillion of them, but I just didn't know who it was.
44:33 Someone who Celtics fans talk about around past deadlines.
44:36 Hey, should we get Wayne Ellington?
44:38 Wayne Ellington, Tyler Johnson, Luke Babbitt.
44:41 It was that team of misfits.
44:43 Yeah, it's just like a bunch of guys.
44:45 I hated those teams.
44:47 Rodney Magruder.
44:48 Yeah.
