Jasper Pulaski Sandhill Crane Migration 2016

Jasper Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area has been a rest stop for migrating Sandhill Cranes for many years. As many as 30,000 Sandhill Cranes have been counted here. Typically, their numbers are greatest in November and December.

The gather in a field near sunrise to socialize before heading to the nearby fields to feed. They gather again in the evening for a while before heading to their roosting areas.

This is a short video which highlights the number of Cranes that can be seen there. I was also lucky enough to capture a large number in flight.
