LaMelo Ball Postgame vs. San Antonio
Transcript
00:00 >> Pretty firm control this game, maybe until the first three minutes of that
00:04 fourth quarter when they pulled ahead by one.
00:05 How were you able to kind of collect yourselves and
00:08 then make the plays you needed to down the stretch to get this one?
00:11 >> Pretty much just listening to coach and staff pretty much and
00:14 just staying locked in.
00:15 >> You guys were, I think, up one when Collins got the illegal screen there.
00:21 About 50 seconds left and then you made the layup.
00:23 Can you walk us through a little bit of what you saw in that possession?
00:27 I think Collins was on you and just kind of-
00:29 >> Yeah, I mean, just came up the screen,
00:31 seeing still had a dude on my left and then Collins on my right.
00:35 And it just made a still move and made the play.
00:37 >> Lamella, it looked at some point like you were kind of flexing your wrist or
00:45 something out there, or I don't know what was, but
00:47 then you just hit a whole bunch of shots in a row.
00:50 Did you have any injury concerns tonight?
00:52 >> Injury concerns?
00:53 No, I was good.
00:55 >> Good. >> Just playing.
00:57 >> You were very efficient shooting.
01:00 Did your three pointer feel any different than normal or, I guess,
01:03 did you feel better than usual?
01:05 >> Actually, no, I'm kind of, I mean, no.
01:10 Coming into the game, I was a little tired.
01:12 I mean, shit, cold outside.
01:14 You gotta deal with being sick a little, so no, I really just playing for real.
01:17 >> What about playing the first home game you've had in two months?
01:21 >> First home game?
01:22 >> I think it was the first home game you've played here in about two months.
01:25 >> Damn, yeah, I didn't even know that.
01:29 >> So.
01:30 >> A lot of stuff to take in right now.
01:31 I mean, just after the game, I'm gonna be kind of tired and stuff, so
01:34 I didn't even know that.
01:36 >> Mello, what do you take away from this game to try to string some wins together
01:39 going forward?
01:41 >> Yeah, pretty much what you just said.
01:42 I'm gonna take one, try to get the next one, and
01:44 hopefully put some wins together.
01:46 >> Mello, I wanna make sure I get this right.
01:49 Four point game in the second quarter with four minutes left.
01:52 You guys, after your three, that extends into an eight point game.
01:56 Third quarter, two point game, coach calls a timeout, we send it to 12.
02:00 Can you just talk about how big it was to close those quarters,
02:03 how you guys did?
02:04 >> Yeah, pretty much just closing quarters is always big, I mean, for any team.
02:08 So you always wanna do that extra little push and
02:10 just try to get a good close quarter, and that's pretty much what was happening.
02:14 >> All the starters ended in double figures.
02:16 Can you just talk about the balance attack that came on offense for
02:18 you guys tonight?
02:19 >> Yeah, everybody was just playing together, getting in lanes,
02:22 creating for others, help was there with kicks, so it was just good basketball.
02:26 >> It seemed like you were in a pretty different zone in the fourth quarter,
02:30 there.
02:30 What about that, and what were you doing to get the team to go in the right
02:34 direction to pull this win out tonight?
02:37 >> Yeah, pretty much like you said, just was trying to get the win,
02:39 pull it out for real, just doing everything you could.
02:42 >> And then with Brandon Miller back tonight,
02:44 man, what do you think he brought to the team, and
02:46 how much do you miss him when he's not out there on the floor?
02:49 >> I mean, speak for itself, 6'9", athletic, can defend, shoot, run, get out.
02:54 So I mean, whenever you don't have that, you gonna feel it.
02:58 So just having that back, smooth.
03:01 >> And then last thing, Coach mentioned the three-point defense a little bit.
03:04 How are you guys gonna try to improve that to make sure your teams aren't getting
03:07 those wide open threes behind them, three-point, huh?
03:10 >> Yeah, pretty much just doing our coverages and
03:11 listening to everybody, staying locked in.
03:14 >> Mello, I know you guys missed Nick Richards and Mike Wilkins.
03:17 Can you talk about having Pete Jack to five in the floor spacing that he gives
03:20 you two?
03:21 >> Right, I mean, previous years being here, Pete played the five, so
03:25 he definitely know how to play the five.
03:26 I mean, we know how to play small ball too, so we've done it before, smooth.
03:31 >> [INAUDIBLE]
03:36 >> You guys have a lot of injuries this
03:38 year, obviously, and to have Nick not play tonight, but
03:41 Brandon come back and to actually get this win.
03:43 What does it do for you guys, comments wise,
03:44 going for once you've had guys in and out, but you finally win the game tonight?
03:49 >> Yeah, that's the main thing, just trying to find a way, no matter what.
03:52 Whoever out there, just try to find a way to get the win.
03:54 >> Appreciate it, guys.
