South Africa's Kwena Maphaka, 5 for 38, on U19 world cup win over West Indies
Transcript
00:00 Gwena, congratulations on a fantastic start to the tournament, a five-wicket haul for
00:04 yourself and also a fantastic win for the team. How do you feel today?
00:08 Yeah, feeling very good. It's always nice to get a five-hundred or a belt and it's even
00:14 better when the team wins when you're doing it.
00:16 You guys were able to pull things back, especially when it looked as though West Indies were
00:21 starting to get ahead. How did you guys stay calm under pressure?
00:24 It's just something that we've been working on. We've played a lot of tournaments before
00:28 against big opposition, so we know how to stay calm in the moment and we've been together
00:34 for a while, so we really know how to make each other tick and how to make each other
00:37 calm.
00:38 Yourself and Riley were able to get wickets, particularly in key moments, even though you
00:44 lost a couple of teammates along the way. How did you stay calm during those times?
00:48 Yeah, it was more funny to me than nerve-wracking. But yeah, it's not nice to lose a few players
00:56 along the way, but we just knew that there was still a job to do and we still had work
01:00 to do.
01:01 Lovely to see both the batters and the bowlers doing a great job. Where do you think you
01:05 guys have room for improvement?
01:06 I think we have room for improvement everywhere. We definitely want to put through a full,
01:11 solid performance and I think we're on our way to that.
01:14 Fantastic performance as well by Joel. Always great to see the opposition also performing.
01:21 What do you have to say about his innings today?
01:23 He played a brilliant knock. He was very, very calm and he knew what he was doing. It's
01:29 just the mark of a great player.
01:30 Next game, what's the plan for you guys?
01:33 Just go out there, try to do our best and hopefully we can pull through another win.
01:38 Fantastic. Thank you for your time.
01:39 Thank you.
