Harouna COMPAORÉ ventured into rabbit farming in 2016. At that time, there were not many breeders specialised in this type of farming, and he learned as he went along.
Over time, he encountered several occasions where he lost almost all of his rabbits. However, he remained determined and never hesitated to start again from scratch.
Today, he has around 400 rabbits on his farm. He also trains students in rabbit farming and plans to establish a training center attached to his farm. His dream is to make his company, "Fermier de Ouaga", the biggest rabbit farm in Burkina Faso.

00:00 The first thing I do is raise rabbits.
00:03 I produce them, I train them.
00:06 We are in the process of making cages and producing the rabbit animals.
00:11 I gave up my studies because of lack of money.
00:20 I had the courage to start my own business,
00:24 especially the rabbit raising.
00:26 The beginning was not easy.
00:28 In 2016, I had a few subjects.
00:31 I had taken 4 females and 2 males.
00:34 When we started at home,
00:36 it started to give.
00:37 Six months later, we had a lot of subjects.
00:39 But unfortunately, we were affected by diseases
00:43 that almost ravaged everything.
00:45 We had the courage to start again.
00:48 We had the same thing again.
00:50 After six months, we were maybe 400 rabbits.
00:53 We lost everything in no time.
00:56 In three days, we lost all the rabbits.
00:59 But we started again.
01:01 We are now in a 600 square meter area.
01:04 We continue to raise rabbits.
01:06 We are about 400 rabbits.
01:09 We have what we call hybrids.
01:11 Hybrids are made of crossings between the races of rabbits
01:15 to have a good performance with a good growth.
01:19 This man is really a warrior.
01:23 He fights for the line that we have.
01:28 I became interested in rabbit raising
01:38 because at first we thought it was a prolific animal.
01:42 It grows fast and it is a cycle-based raising.
01:46 We don't need a lot of resources to raise rabbits.
01:50 This is what motivated us to raise rabbits.
01:54 A female can give 35 to 40 rabbits per year.
01:58 I was raising chickens in my childhood.
02:09 But at one point, I had a lot of difficulties with chickens.
02:13 It was in my research that I came across rabbits.
02:16 I looked into the field.
02:18 I was looking for a professional raiser.
02:21 I tried to launch it.
02:23 As we tried to professionalize it,
02:26 we have been in it until now.
02:29 I am proud to be a rabbit raiser.
02:36 Because at first, a lot of people discouraged me.
02:40 If it was to resume, we would always invest in rabbit raising.
02:44 The vision of Ouaga in 2 to 5 years is to make this place a training center.
02:50 We have already started training.
02:53 We even take interns, students who come to do the end-of-cycle training.
02:59 Our vision is to make Ouaga the largest farm in Burkina Faso.
03:06 Where everyone can come to train.
