00:10 When the COVID lockdown occurred, I felt that I had to do something to exercise
00:18 and so I decided to start walking outside.
00:21 This is my daily routine, which I carry out first thing in the morning after breakfast
00:27 and also a couple of times during the afternoon.
00:34 I started with 40 laps a day, which I did 30 in the morning and another 10 in the afternoon.
00:44 But when I got reached 100, I gave myself a present and reduced it to 30 laps.

01:06 Despite the weather, if it's only raining slightly, I'm out there and the cold, I can cope with that.
01:13 I draw my anorak hood over me and that keeps the warmth.
01:18 And so far, I've done around the back of the bungalow, down the one side and back again,
01:25 41,550 times since COVID.
01:30 And that amounts to no less than 661 miles.
01:35 [footsteps]
01:42 The other thing about walking outside every day has kept me very fit
01:47 and also the walking.
01:50 I have no problems with knees, ankles or feet or anything like that
01:55 because that continuous walking and exercise has kept me very, very fit.

02:08 For determination and resilience, I was taught that in the Army,
02:14 having served for five years during the war...

02:31 Captain Tom did something to raise money and I thought then that I could do the same.
02:38 And the one that I thought of was motor neuron disease
02:42 because I'd had three dear friends who died from that terrible illness.
02:51 I'm always looking for opportunities to get more money in
02:55 and I had a concert at our church at Stockland Green that raised over £2,000.
03:01 So now over £43,000 has been raised.

03:13 I may intend to keep going as long as I can despite my age
03:19 to help other people because in life it is about helping other people.
