Aprilia RS457 Review by Vedant Jouhari. The Aprilia RS457 is a lightweight supersport motorcycle for the Indian market. It takes design inspiration from the Aprilia RS660 and the RSV4 but is powered by a smaller 457cc engine that makes 46.9 bhp and 43.5 Nm of torque.
The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch and features three riding modes - Eco, Rain, and Sport. The RS457 also comes with a digital instrument cluster, full LED lighting, and dual-channel ABS.
The Aprilia RS457 is a great option for riders who are looking for a lightweight and powerful supersport motorcycle. It is also relatively affordable, making it a good choice for first-time buyers.

00:00 So we are at Karim Hora Speedway to test out the Aprilia RS 457 and in this video we'll
00:18 be talking about how this bike performs and what all we get on this new motorcycle.
00:24 So do watch the entire video to find out everything that you need to know about the RS 457.
00:36 So starting off with the front end of the Aprilia RS 457, we have this extremely aggressive
00:41 dome in the front with this really nice integrated windshield to the whole design.
00:47 It doesn't stand out, it doesn't look like an extra piece, it just looks like one.
00:51 Then on top of that, we have these really nice designs, this black, red and purple,
00:57 creating a very nice contrast, a very aggressive contrast on the motorcycle.
01:03 Also we have these two vents in the front that just add to the whole sporty aesthetic,
01:08 add to the whole race bike feel of this.
01:11 Then we have a split style headlamp in the front with a DRL and integrated indicators.
01:18 So your indicators come from the side over here and this is your split style headlamp.
01:23 Also at the bottom we have two more air vents and on this colour scheme, you get this really
01:27 cool Aprilia writing over here, just again adding to the whole aggressiveness, adding
01:32 to the whole sportiness of the motorcycle.
01:35 Also on the front mudguard, we have Aprilia's tagline #BeARacer.
01:40 So this honestly screams Aprilia's whole racing dynamic, the whole racing history and the
01:46 racing lineage.
01:47 And being an Italian manufacturer with so much experience, they've really come out with
01:52 a beautiful machine.
01:53 I'll come to that when I'm talking about the performance aspects of this.
01:57 Now, moving on from the front end, we have these really nice side view mirrors, again
02:02 blending into the whole aesthetic of the bike.
02:04 Also these side view mirrors, as the Aprilia RS 457 is a sports oriented motorcycle, you
02:10 can also fold them inwards to actually suit riding it on track and giving it the more
02:16 aerodynamic aspect.
02:18 So now moving on to the side design of the RS 457.
02:22 As you can see, the whole silhouette of this is super aggressive, it's very bold, it's
02:28 very strong and it's very sporty.
02:31 Also looking at it from afar, you won't think this is just a 400cc motorcycle, you will
02:35 think it's a bigger engine, a bigger capacity, a bigger displacement motorcycle that's standing.
02:41 Just because of the whole setup of this, it's very compact yet it has so much going on,
02:46 it just brings out the whole sporty aspect of this.
02:50 So looking at the side design, we have these really nice air vents on the side, on the
02:56 fairings and it follows the red, black and purple paint scheme throughout.
03:02 Also we do have touches of white and the whole black, white and red contrast really, in my
03:06 opinion look amazing on this motorcycle.
03:10 Then we also have forged carbon fibre bits on the side, which honestly has a plasticky
03:15 feel but if you shake it also, it doesn't move that much, it doesn't rattle around.
03:20 Even while riding the bike, you didn't really feel the rattles, it was very, very well put
03:24 together.
03:25 So moving on, this motorcycle comes with an underbelly exhaust over here and the exhaust
03:31 honestly blends in with the whole side fascia of the motorcycle, it doesn't come out nor
03:38 is it an upswept exhaust, it's just there and it looks wonderful.
03:42 Looking at the tank of this, so we have a very bulky tank and it also fares out in the
03:48 centre providing that extra grip we need on the tank and for when we're cornering, it
03:52 gives us that extra sort of space to actually play with our leg, to find the sweet spot
03:58 for us while we're pushing the bike to its limit.
04:01 Then further on, we have a split style seat over here and the rider seat that we have
04:05 is slightly elongated and this really helps for when you're tucking into the bike and
04:11 really opening it.
04:12 As you can move a little further back and find a comfortable space to actually get your
04:16 whole body to fit into the whole aerodynamics.
04:20 When I'm talking about the seating position, I'll show you how it is to actually tuck into
04:23 the bike.
04:24 Now, the rear seat that we have is fairly small, but for a sports oriented bike, you
04:29 really don't need a massive rear seat as you won't find yourself taking a pillion that
04:33 often.
04:34 But, for when you do have to take a pillion, there is ample amount of space for them to
04:38 sit and they also have somewhere to hold on.
04:41 So, the grab rails that we have can be used to pull the bike and even for the pillion
04:46 to sit, for them to have a comfortable seating position.
04:48 So, moving on to the rear, we have this really nice angular brake light, again, that really
04:53 adds to the whole aggressiveness, adds to the whole sportiness of this.
04:56 So, coming to the tyres on the Aprilia RS 457, from the factory, it comes with TVS EuroGrips
05:07 Pro Stock Xtreme tyres and these are super sticky.
05:11 It's performance oriented and for a sports bike, that's what you need.
05:15 You can confidently lean the bike to its maximum lean without feeling the tyre wanting to slip
05:21 or lose grip under you.
05:23 So, that is really good.
05:25 So, the tyre setup that we get, in the front, we get a 110/70 17-inch tyres and on the rear,
05:31 we get a 150/60, again, 17-inch tyres.
05:34 Now, these tyres, with the black wheels that we have on this and the red stripe surrounding
05:40 the rim over here, as you can see, add so much of an aesthetic purpose on the motorcycle.
05:47 So, the front discs that we have are 320mm and the rear disc that we have is 220mm.
05:54 I'll talk more about the braking aspect once I come to the performance of the motorcycle
05:58 but these brakes having a 320mm disc in the front is really important as you will need
06:03 something to stop the power that this Aprilia motorcycle puts out.
06:07 Now, coming to the suspension setup, at the front, we have a USD suspension and at the
06:12 rear, we have a single monoshock.
06:13 Now, in more sports oriented bikes, that's what we see.
06:17 As this, as you can play around with the suspension setup, with the preload, with the dampness
06:22 of the suspension to suit it for your riding style and to make it even better for when
06:27 you're riding on track.
06:29 So, I'm 6'1" and the seat height of this is 800mm.
06:35 So I can comfortably place both my feet flat on the ground without having to struggle.
06:40 And when you're coming to your sporty riding position, the flared out tanks, as I said,
06:46 gives you that extra grip that you need on your legs and for when you tuck in, you have
06:52 somewhere to place your hands as well.
06:55 It's not just free.
06:56 So this is really good and the centre part of the tank is flat for where you have to
07:01 rest your chest like this.
07:04 So that doesn't get too uncomfortable as you see in most of the other sports bikes that
07:08 are there nowadays.
07:10 So that was the seating position of this.
07:12 So on the Aprilia RS 457, we get a 5" TFT display and on that display, we have six different
07:19 modes that we can see.
07:20 So your first one is your basic one which just shows your RPMs, your speed, your fuel
07:26 gauge and after that, another tachometer on this which is a much more sportier version.
07:32 So it shows you your speed and your revs like the other one but on top of that, it also
07:37 shows you your top speed, your lap count, it also shows you which lap you're on currently.
07:44 So that just gives you a much more better reading for when you're actually on track
07:48 riding this motorcycle.
07:50 Then beyond that, we also get a reading with all your trip, with all your details such
07:56 as your trip details, the maximum speed you've touched, your fuel economy, how much fuel
08:00 you've used, the time you've been riding.
08:04 Then beyond that, there's another display that shows you distance to service, the engine
08:09 temperature, your battery voltage, navigation.
08:12 Finally, we have two more displays and this is for your connectivity.
08:16 One is for your music connectivity and the other is for your phone connectivity.
08:21 So you can control your music through the controls on this and you can also connect
08:26 your phone to this and see who's calling you, seeing the incoming and outgoing calls.
08:31 So now coming to the switches on the motorcycle.
08:33 So everything is in hands reach, you really don't need to hook down to see what you're
08:37 pressing as it's all very convenient.
08:40 On the right side where your throttle is, you only have your kill switch and you have
08:43 your riding mode off.
08:44 On the left side, you have a four-way switch that you can choose your traction control
08:48 settings, you can change your display that's shown and a lot more features.
08:54 Then further, you have your regular passing light, you have your indicator and you have
08:59 your horn located on the left.
09:01 So now coming to the performance.
09:03 Firstly, the RS 457 gets three riding modes, Eco, Rain and Sport.
09:10 Now in these three riding modes, you also get a host of traction control settings.
09:15 You get three levels of traction control, level one, two and three and you can also
09:19 switch off traction control, which is really good as for a track-oriented motorcycle, for
09:24 a sports-oriented motorcycle, a lot of the professional riders really don't like traction
09:29 control as it sort of controls the power delivery, it sends information to the ECU to cut off
09:35 your power if it feels the rear wheel starting to spin.
09:39 But for most professional riders, they know what they're doing with their rear wheel to
09:43 actually negate the whole traction control experience.
09:46 So that is really good that they've given us an option to actually switch off the traction
09:50 control.
09:51 Now what powers this Aprilia RS 457?
10:04 Well, this beautiful motorcycle has a 457cc parallel twin engine that produces 47.6 horsepower
10:14 and 43.5Nm of torque and you can really feel that power coming when you whack open the
10:20 throttle and something really, really cool about this is even on your lower revs, as
10:26 it's a parallel twin engine, you can just hit the throttle open and it's gonna react,
10:31 you don't feel it lag, you don't feel a flat spot, it's instant power delivery on this.
10:37 Being a parallel twin cylinder, that really helps in giving the power out and really sending
10:43 the power out of it.
10:45 That is how it is and while riding, the agility of this bike is top notch.
10:52 You can throw it from a left corner into a sharp right corner and the bike will not budge,
10:58 it will not struggle, it won't complain, it'll do what you want it to do.
11:04 On top of that, you don't feel the speed you're carrying on this.
11:08 For example, while riding it down the main straight on Karimota Speedway, I was doing
11:14 around 145-150 km/hr but I thought I was only doing around 120.
11:21 Now that, I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing but it's a super peppy motorcycle.
11:28 It has so much potential, you can push this bike to its limit and it'll take what you
11:35 throw at it.
11:36 But, here is the downside, here is one flaw I found on this, the braking.
11:41 The engine braking is wonderful but braking with your front brakes, you may face a problem.
11:48 So while riding, coming into C1, it's a relatively sharp corner, so you're coming down the main
11:54 straight on 6th gear and when you suddenly have to brake to like 2nd or 3rd gear and
11:59 when you have to brake hard, especially when you have to brake hard, you feel the ABS kick
12:04 in.
12:05 So even if you're progressively squeezing the brake and not just grabbing it all at
12:09 once, you still feel the ABS play around and come into the way of what you want to do.
12:16 So that is something I feel where Aprilia could have worked on this motorcycle a little
12:21 more but if you negate that, if you forget about that, the performance of this is unmatchable.
12:28 It's wonderful.
12:29 So while I was riding, I had a thrill, I didn't feel uncomfortable on the motorcycle, I didn't
12:35 feel unsure of what I was going to do and I didn't feel that the bike was cribbing.
12:41 It was happy with it being pushed to its limit, you could really feel the engine come to life
12:46 when you push it to its limit.
12:48 The revs on this, you, there isn't a set rev band, you feel the linear rev band from the
12:54 start till the end but however, the redline being at 9000 RPM, I feel is a little too
13:00 low.
13:01 I feel if Aprilia had mapped the ECU to actually allow us another 1000, 1500 or even to 2000
13:09 RPM, the amount we could have got out of this is a whole lot more.
13:12 So now I've spoken about the performance of this, let's listen to how the bike actually
13:18 sounds when it's screaming.
13:19 So on idle itself, we have a very, very profound sound.
13:27 As you heard, it has such a beautiful sound, it has a very nice grunt to it, nor is it
13:42 too rowdy, it honestly sounds like music when you're revving the bike and normally, when
13:48 you rev a bike to a higher RPM, it does get irritating to the ears but this just gets
13:53 even better the louder it goes.
13:56 All in all, this was the Aprilia RS 457 and if you are looking to pick it up, it's available
14:02 at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 4,23,000.
14:07 So do let us know in the comment section down below, what you think of this beautiful, beautiful
14:13 motorcycle.
