00:00 Europe must continue empowering Ukraine`s resistance with or without the support of
00:04 Hungary. That was the message of the president of the European Commission in Davos, where
00:08 she met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
00:12 Yet financing is urgently needed and Hungary is still blocking 50 billion euros in long-term
00:17 assistance to Kiev.
00:18 Talking to Euronews, Ursula von der Leyen said she still hopes the 27 member states
00:23 can find common ground.
00:25 Ukraine needs that but it`s currently being held up due to a member of the European Union.
00:30 How do you solve a problem like Viktor Orban and how does Zelensky feel about being caught
00:34 up in political squabbling?
00:36 I think it`s very important to engage with all 27 member states of the European Union
00:41 to get the 50 billion euro for four years for Ukraine up and running. And this is the
00:48 phase we`re in right now. It`s a preparation for the extraordinary European Council on the
00:53 1st of February. It`s hard work. We have discussed many different issues. For me, it`s very important.
00:58 My personal priority is to have an agreement by 27. If this is not possible, we are prepared
01:06 for an agreement by 26, but I strongly support and prefer an agreement by 27.
01:14 Also in Davos, President von der Leyen met with Li Jiang, premier of the People`s Republic
01:18 of China, where they discussed the growing trade imbalances. The bloc currently has a
01:23 nearly 400 billion trade deficit with China.
01:28 With the Chinese leadership, I have discussed the trade issues of the European Union and
01:34 basically the principle of de-risk, not decouple. Not decouple is very clear. It`s neither reasonable
01:40 nor feasible. And there are topics where we cooperate like fighting climate change. But
01:47 we are very clear and frank on the trade imbalances we have with China and that the Chinese leadership
01:56 has to do something about it. These were details we discussed and it`s good to have a very
02:00 frank and open discussion.
02:02 During her speech in Davos, the president of the European Commission also said that
02:06 an era has started where conflict and confrontation are overlapping. She described it as the greatest
02:12 risk to the global order in the post-war era.
02:16 They need a sustained supply of weapons to defend Ukraine and to regain...
