00:00 G'day guys, it's me, DPR IAN.
00:04 And welcome to my mind massage.
00:06 Let me take you through my sound journey
00:09 with some of my favorite items.
00:11 (buzzing)
00:13 (clinking)
00:15 (dinging)
00:17 (shushing)
00:20 (buzzing)
00:26 All right guys, here I have a glass full of ice.
00:31 (ice clinking)
00:33 Get a load of that.
00:41 (ice clinking)
00:45 Yeah.
00:49 (ice clinking)
00:51 (gulping)
00:54 So next, we're gonna add,
00:59 oh, we're gonna add some chamoy,
01:02 but it's Tahin Chamoy.
01:06 I've never tried this one.
01:08 I like to add some chamoy to my Mountain Dew with ice.
01:13 (clinking)
01:15 (sniffing)
01:18 Smells like victory.
01:20 (sniffing)
01:22 Oh God, I think that makes a sound.
01:24 (clinking)
01:26 Just a little more.
01:29 (ice clinking)
01:30 Beautiful, look at that.
01:32 (ice clinking)
01:33 And we're gonna mix it.
01:35 (ice clinking)
01:37 Mix it good.
01:45 Yeah, buddy.
01:46 (ice clinking)
01:49 (gulping)
01:51 I think I added a little too much.
01:56 Is the Tahin one meant to be spicy?
02:01 Oh my gosh, I'm not really good at drinking spicy stuff.
02:04 It's actually not bad.
02:05 If you like sweet, sour, savory, salty,
02:09 all of the above, above.
02:11 Oh man, you'll love this.
02:13 So how do I get started making music?
02:15 I've always loved music.
02:19 I've always had a fascination for actual music
02:21 and arts, actually.
02:22 I went to a performing arts school.
02:24 So I think my love for music started way back,
02:28 actually, from primary school.
02:30 Yeah, that's where it started.
02:32 Yeah.
02:33 At the time, I was just, you know, messing around.
02:36 I've always known I've always wanted to make music.
02:38 Yeah, I think three years ago, I was like, you know what?
02:41 I'm gonna start making my own music.
02:43 Before that, I used to direct.
02:45 But now, here I am.
02:49 Whispering to you guys.
02:51 Amazing.
02:52 I think for me,
02:54 D.B.R., we have such a strong bond within the team.
02:57 So we've always had D.B.R. something,
03:00 D.B.R. Live, D.B.R. Cream.
03:03 I think it was to give the idea that we're unified as one.
03:08 And to that, I added just my,
03:12 I guess you could call it nickname.
03:14 I mean, my name's Christian,
03:15 but Ian would've been,
03:18 would just sound a little bit cooler, you know?
03:20 He's D.B.R. Christian.
03:23 Yeah, D.B.R. Ian.
03:26 Where do I start?
03:27 It's called "Dear Insanity."
03:30 And it's based on my manic eyes.
03:32 Yes, you heard it right, my manic eyes.
03:35 And I personified it, turned it into a character.
03:39 It's pretty much an adventure
03:42 into this new universe called "The Other Side."
03:45 And it starts with him writing a letter
03:48 to his future self called Mr. Insanity,
03:51 almost like as if to embark on a long journey.
03:55 And that's pretty much what this album is about.
03:58 It's venturing deep into the consciousness of the mind
04:03 and seeing what you can unravel along the journey.
04:07 Welcome to "The Other Side."
04:11 Here we have oxygen.
04:15 It's funny enough, we're lacking a lot of that these days.
04:41 So here we have boost oxygen.
04:45 Now you might be thinking,
04:47 why do you need a part here?
04:50 'Cause I don't go out.
04:52 And guess what?
04:53 It's peppermint.
04:54 Refreshing.
05:05 (breathing)
05:07 I think I'm getting a little lightheaded.
05:14 Don't breathe in too much.
05:16 Always remember to breathe out.
05:17 (breathing)
05:20 Oh.
05:25 You could fall asleep to this.
05:33 My favorite track on the album,
05:36 I think, kept changing.
05:37 I think "Welcome to The Other Side"
05:41 was my first favorite track,
05:44 just because it was a lot of fun making it.
05:47 There's a lot of layering and, you know,
05:50 it kind of immerses you
05:52 into what the other side might feel like.
05:56 But I think as of now, I kind of like "By The Grazing."
06:00 Just has a bit of a mood to it, you know?
06:02 If I could work with any artist,
06:04 living or dead,
06:05 I would have to give it up for Daft Punk.
06:07 Biggest, one of my biggest inspirations growing up,
06:11 when I was in primary school,
06:12 the first CD that I was ever gifted
06:15 was "Discovery."
06:19 That album just blew my mind.
06:21 One more time.
06:23 One more time, can you hear it?
06:27 Yeah.
06:28 If I was allowed to bring three items
06:30 to a deserted island,
06:32 I would bring,
06:33 I'll bring my team.
06:34 'Cause I ain't gonna stay there by myself.
06:38 And number two,
06:39 I would bring me family.
06:42 And number three,
06:44 obviously my pets.
06:47 And we'll start a new community.
06:50 (blender whirring)
06:53 (bells ringing)
06:58 This is gonna sound absolutely majestic.
07:01 (bells ringing)
07:04 Oh, buddy.
07:09 I could listen to this all day.
07:16 Breathe it out.
07:22 This one
07:24 is a,
07:27 let's say a wind chime, as you can see.
07:31 But I got it as a gift before I left Korea.
07:36 And it was to, I think,
07:39 protect, no, not really.
07:41 I just, it just sounded cool.
07:42 So I just asked, I was like,
07:43 "Can I please have it?"
07:44 And she was like, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah."
07:46 So it was a very special gift from a special friend.
07:48 If I was enjoying music,
07:50 I think I would have been
07:52 somewhere in the athletics side of it.
07:57 Or possibly,
08:00 possibly a dentist.
08:02 But I would have done a horrendous job at that.
08:05 I'm gonna tell you right now.
08:06 They looked at my hands and they were like,
08:08 "Nah, you don't have dentist's hands."
08:10 I was like, "What?
08:11 "What are dentist's hands?"
08:13 Here we have a
08:23 Wiley Wallaby.
08:24 In case you guys don't know what a Wallaby is,
08:26 it kinda looks a bit like a kangaroo.
08:29 Is it smaller or bigger?
08:32 I can't remember.
08:33 But here we have Licorice.
08:37 Look at this beauty.
08:47 Oh my goodness.
08:52 (lips smacking)
08:55 Oh shit.
08:58 It gives you a natural tint on your lips.
09:00 If you have any idea of putting lipstick on,
09:04 there you go.
09:06 I'll proceed to eat it now.
09:07 It's so good.
09:20 (lips smacking)
09:22 Don't mind me, I'll have another one.
09:26 If I could have any animal as a pet.
09:31 Maybe a,
09:33 maybe a Wallaby.
09:36 Maybe a Wallaby.
09:41 I don't know, it just came up in my mind.
09:45 I have no idea why.
09:49 But a Wallaby, you know.
09:51 I think they'll be unique.
09:52 From Australia, so.
09:55 Yeah, kangaroos are a little bit too scary, you know.
09:59 They punch.
10:00 Honestly, I think it's the dreamers, you know.
10:04 Big shout outs to them.
10:06 They keep us doing what we do.
10:07 And it's the only reason why we do what we do.
10:11 So with this new era of insanity,
10:15 I think it further expands on the DPR universe,
10:20 you know, cinema universe, the DCU, you know.
10:24 And sonically, visually,
10:26 obviously we have so much more in store for you guys.
10:29 It's gonna be a crazy ride once you guys realize
10:33 everything is intertwined and connected.
10:37 You'll be wanting to see what happens next.
10:40 And I think that's what's unique about just us
10:43 and our fan base.
10:45 We're all intertwined and connected
10:47 with the art that we do.
10:49 I have the utmost respect for all the dreamers out there.
10:53 I see your theories.
10:54 I see your love.
10:56 I'm super excited.
10:58 I know you guys are.
10:59 So yeah, you know, thank you.
11:03 Best self-love advice.
11:05 First of all, you gotta learn to love yourself.
11:08 I know it's a little hard.
11:10 And sometimes people might think it's a little cringe
11:12 to wake up in the morning,
11:14 look in the mirror and say,
11:16 you're bloody beautiful.
11:17 You got this.
11:18 You're gonna have an amazing day.
11:20 But let me tell you, projection is everything.
11:24 What you project is literally what you feed yourself.
11:28 So I always say self-love always comes from self-talk.
11:32 If you don't talk to yourself
11:34 in a loving and respectful way,
11:36 then you won't ever feel like you're loving yourself.
11:38 Even if it's once a day.
11:40 Go to the mirror, you know.
11:42 No one has to look and say,
11:46 you got this.
11:47 If not you, then who?
11:49 It's okay to be not okay.
11:52 But we always get through it.
11:55 We always do.
11:56 We find a way.
11:57 We find a solution.
11:58 I think that's what makes us special and unique.
12:02 Probably better than the aliens out there.
12:06 But yeah, I have to go now.
12:09 But thank you so much for listening to my mind massage.
12:13 Beautiful ASMR right here.
12:16 And make sure to listen to my new EP,
12:18 Dear Insanity.
12:20 But for now,
12:21 we shall indulge.
12:26 Beautiful.
12:30 (electronic beeping)
12:33 (fire crackling)
