00:00 Hello, I'm Danny Lux, and welcome to my mind massage.
00:05 [ Blows ]
00:07 [ Squeaking ]
00:09 Shh!
00:16 I'm going to take you through a sound journey
00:19 using my favorite things.
00:21 [ Blows ]
00:23 [ Clattering ]
00:25 [ Clinking ]
00:27 [ Clinking ]
00:30 [ Blows ]
00:32 [ Clinking ]
00:34 [ Water pouring ]
00:39 [ Blows ]
00:47 [ Sighs ]
00:49 I chose Dr. Pepper
00:51 because I like the taste of medicine sometimes,
00:55 and it just makes me feel warm inside.
00:59 I grew up in Deserat Springs, California,
01:03 and it's honestly pure desert.
01:06 It's a lonely place,
01:08 but it's fun if you know the right things to do.
01:12 I feel like growing up in the desert affected my music
01:15 because I was always mainly alone.
01:18 I just had so much time on my hands,
01:20 and I got to focus on my music.
01:23 What inspired me to become a singer is I--
01:26 I've just always loved music ever since I was little,
01:29 and deep down, I always knew this was what I wanted to do.
01:32 I'm not really good at anything else.
01:34 I'm kidding.
01:35 I just--I don't know.
01:37 I just really love making music.
01:39 I've always loved it.
01:40 It's kind of like one of those things
01:41 that you just know that you want to do.
01:44 My biggest musical influences
01:46 are probably Spanish rock bands like Maná,
01:50 and I've been listening to a lot of this Venezuelan group
01:54 called Rawayana.
01:56 They're sick.
01:57 I just love it when they compose music so--
02:00 in such a way that I would've never have thought,
02:03 and it inspires me to add new sounds to my own music.
02:07 I feel like my sound is obviously
02:10 in the regional Mexican genre,
02:12 but I like to mix in a lot of other sounds,
02:14 so it's more like worldwide.
02:16 Anybody could listen to it,
02:18 and there's good vibes in it.
02:20 Damn, I opened these in the best way possible.
02:34 I didn't think it was gonna turn out like that.
02:38 [plastic crinkling]
02:41 I chose these because they've always been my favorite candy,
03:00 and I remember when I was in elementary school,
03:03 my teacher would give these out as prizes
03:05 if you answered something correctly,
03:07 and after class, I would sneak in and grab a lot
03:10 and just put them in my pocket and run out.
03:13 I'm always gonna love these.
03:15 My newest song, "Te Extraño y Lo Siento,"
03:18 has a really special place in my heart
03:21 because I put in a lot of emotions into it,
03:23 and I feel like every verse of the song is like a quote.
03:27 That's what I focus on when I write music.
03:29 I want people to know, like, each verse of the song
03:32 can mean something different to anyone,
03:35 and I just want people to identify themselves
03:38 with my own music.
03:39 The song is basically about a girl you're in love with
03:42 that you guys are dating
03:44 and having such a wonderful relationship,
03:47 and she goes out and does something that's just not okay
03:51 and maybe cheats on you.
03:53 Of course you're mad about it,
03:55 but maybe you feel like it was your fault
03:57 for not being enough.
03:58 That's why it's called "Te Extraño y Lo Siento,"
04:00 because you miss her, and you're sorry
04:02 for maybe not being enough for her.
04:04 The inspiration for the song,
04:06 I just wanted people to be able to identify themselves
04:10 in my songs,
04:12 and that song, I just put in so many emotions into it
04:16 because I just made up, like, a story in my head
04:19 of a guy that he's in a relationship
04:21 and he loves her so much,
04:23 and, well, she goes out and goes with somebody else,
04:26 and I was writing from the perspective of the guy
04:29 in the music video.
04:30 We wanted to incorporate where I was from,
04:33 so we literally went, like, five minutes away from my house
04:36 to, like, this little mountain,
04:38 and we just shot the whole video there.
04:40 I feel like my writing process is just always, like,
04:43 I start off, I find a melody that I really like on the guitar
04:46 based off how that medley--
04:48 "medley"--
04:49 melody feels.
04:50 I just, like, "Damn, this melody feels sad.
04:54 I'm gonna make a sad song.
04:55 This melody feels happy.
04:57 Maybe make a romantic song."
04:59 That's just how I go based off of the melodies.
05:02 [blender whirring]
05:04 [blender whirring]
05:08 [blender stops]
05:10 [tapping]
05:12 [metal clanging]
05:14 [knife chopping]
05:19 [crunching]
05:22 [chewing]
05:25 [chewing]
05:27 [knife chopping]
05:31 [knife chopping]
05:33 [crunching]
05:38 I chose these apples because it brings me back
05:41 to when I was a little kid,
05:43 and my mom would always just have these cut apples
05:46 ready for me when I was back home after school,
05:49 like a little snack.
05:51 And it was always green apples.
05:54 I've just always loved these.
05:56 I used to eat them with peanut butter.
05:58 My favorites.
06:00 [crunching]
06:02 Some of my other favorite snacks are hot Cheetos,
06:07 but I like to put cheese in them,
06:11 like melted cheese.
06:12 I also like cutting up cucumbers
06:15 and putting them in a bowl
06:17 and then just fill the bowl with ranch.
06:20 And I just put some cheese on top.
06:23 Try it.
06:24 You're gonna love it.
06:25 If I was stranded in a deserted island
06:30 with only one album,
06:32 [crunching]
06:34 it would probably be
06:37 the Magical Mystery Tour by The Beatles.
06:41 I love that album.
06:42 That album, I feel like they incorporated
06:45 so many sounds that many people wouldn't really use
06:49 back in, like, the '60s.
06:51 And it just inspired me so much
06:54 to, like, be unique with my own music.
06:57 Something about me that you guys might not know
07:01 is that I'm colorblind.
07:05 I'm actually colorblind.
07:07 I don't think it's really impacted my life as much,
07:09 'cause, like, I can still see colors.
07:11 I just see different shades than what normal people would see.
07:15 Like, I mean, not normal people,
07:17 but, like, people without colorblindness.
07:20 People always ask me, "So what do you see?"
07:22 But it's so hard.
07:23 It's, like, impossible to explain what I see,
07:25 'cause I don't know what you see.
07:27 So, like, to me, it seems normal what I see.
07:30 But for you, normal might be something else.
07:33 [paper tearing]
07:35 [crunching]
07:38 [crunching]
07:41 [crunching]
07:44 I hate this part,
07:46 'cause I can never find the little--
07:49 the way to take the top part off.
07:52 I got it.
07:56 [crunching]
07:58 [clicks tongue]
08:05 I chose--this is one of the props I want to use,
08:09 because sometimes I plan ahead.
08:14 I see into the future sometimes,
08:16 and I just know I wasn't gonna have ChapStick.
08:19 And I know my lips were gonna be chapped today,
08:22 'cause I always lose my ChapSticks.
08:24 So this is a way to get free ChapStick.
08:27 I'm really looking forward to release this--
08:32 my first full-length album that I'm working on right now.
08:36 And I'm really excited for the people to hear these songs,
08:40 because I promised myself that this year
08:43 people would get the best version of me.
08:46 And, like, these songs, I feel like, really reflect that,
08:49 because we're working so hard on them.
08:51 It's better be something crazy once they release.
08:55 I feel like the best self-love always comes with patience,
09:00 because maybe when you're stressed about something
09:03 or if something's bothering you, if you're just patient,
09:07 maybe, like, the world will do its thing
09:09 and make sure things calm down,
09:11 and you mentally calm down,
09:13 and you just take, like, a little break.
09:15 It's always okay to take a break
09:17 off of whatever you're doing.
09:19 Because I feel like if you're stressed
09:22 and you have anxiety and all that,
09:25 like, it's a hard thing to just be focused
09:28 on all those things that are going on in your life, maybe.
09:32 And maybe being patient will help you with that.
09:35 Make sure you check out my song, "Te Extraño y Lo Siento."
09:39 I'm Danny Lux.
09:41 Thank you for watching my mind massage.
