A man who was convicted over a "violent and unwarranted" assault in Adelaide's CBD has performed the Nazi salute outside court. The 29-year-old's motive was not mentioned in court after he took an early guilty plea, but the ABC has obtained encrypted messages which detail his links to national socialist networks.

00:00 Leaving court, Kane Brennad-Reynolds opted to cover his face, but didn't shy away from
00:07 the camera.
00:09 Are you a Nazi Kane?
00:11 The 29-year-old was convicted of assault causing harm over this incident in May, but the Adelaide
00:17 Magistrates Court did not examine his links to white supremacist groups because he took
00:23 an early guilty plea.
00:25 CCTV footage shows Brennad-Reynolds is confronted by a man after placing stickers across the
00:31 city. He then pushes the man to the ground and kicks him in the head.
00:35 Do you have any words for the victim who you kicked in the head?
00:42 The court did not discuss the material on the stickers, but the ABC has obtained messages
00:47 from a telegram channel which shares posts from accounts linked to South Australia's
00:53 National Socialist Network.
00:55 The channel shares a username with a now-deleted Instagram account which featured multiple
01:00 photos and videos of Brennad-Reynolds. A post in September reads, "People used to look
01:06 both ways before crossing the road. Now it's look both ways before taking down a racist
01:12 sticker in Adelaide."
01:14 The same day when Brennad-Reynolds was spared jail time, a post read, "One of our members'
01:19 strongest soldiers is freed."
01:21 CCTV of the incident shows the victim thrown to the ground twice and sustaining multiple
01:27 blows to the head, but in the end, he's the one who chases his attackers away. Magistrate
01:33 Simon Smart opted to suspend Brennad-Reynolds' three-month prison sentence.
01:38 People can fall to the ground and kill themselves quite easily after being hit in the head,
01:43 so it was a foolish, dangerous and stupid thing to do.
01:47 His co-accused in the assault, Martin Quinn, was fined $1,000 with no conviction recorded
01:53 for throwing a series of punches.
01:55 What stickers were you placing up in the city at that time?
01:57 We weren't placing up stickers, sir. We were confronted by a man for no reason.
02:03 The ABC is not suggesting Quinn has any links to white supremacist groups.
