00:00 Hi, I'm Kate Foster.
00:01 Let me try again.
00:02 Hi, I'm Kate Foster.
00:03 What's your name?
00:04 Hi, I'm Kate Foster.
00:05 Sorry, you are?
00:06 I don't know.

00:13 I think the qualities that an entrepreneur needs is curiosity and resilience.
00:18 I think those are the two key attributes.
00:21 I think if you want to be successful as an entrepreneur, you have to have.
00:24 And then lastly, get yourself a great co-founder.
00:26 [LAUGH]
00:28 I agree with that one.
00:29 That should have been number one.

00:32 I had struggled with acne and sensitive skin forever.
00:37 And something like The Outset was not available.
00:40 I saw that opportunity and started brainstorming on finding a solution.
00:46 And during that process, I ended up meeting Kate, and the rest is history.

00:53 Being a business person or a business-minded person as a woman 15 years ago,
00:59 it was a different landscape then.
01:02 It was challenging because you felt like you always had to fight for your worth.
01:08 When I was a kid just like you, it was really like my mom would always say,
01:13 you can be anything you wanna be.
01:14 It wasn't maybe demonstrated before.
01:16 And now I find with my daughter who's 12,
01:19 if I say to her, you can be anything you want, she's like, yeah, of course.
01:22 It's definitely gotten better.
01:24 And I think it continues to get better, but it's still a struggle.
01:27 The more that you kind of start to chip away at those dusty,
01:32 long-held beliefs, it just kind of becomes more like, yeah, why not?

01:40 Over maybe the last decade, we've loved to put the female founder on this pedestal.
01:44 Everybody builds them up, and then they become very easy target practice for
01:48 small or large failures, whatever they are.
01:51 It would be great to have a world where there's a little more balance,
01:54 where it's less kind of like having to put people on pedestals because it's seen
01:58 more often.
01:59 >> I think women have a really high emotional intelligence,
02:04 and that's very valuable.
02:07 It is a very powerful tool to lean into.
02:11 >> There's a sense of empathy that women in leadership roles bring that I think
02:16 sometimes allows them to see the bigger picture, which I think is great for
02:20 everyone, this idea that all boats rise with the tide,
02:23 I think is a good one to keep in mind in business and in life.
