00:14 >> I've submitted my papers for President of the Law Society of Kenya,
00:17 and I thank the membership for having entrusted me in these two years,
00:21 having served as their Vice President.
00:23 And I want to say, keep the faith.
00:26 We have done the work.
00:27 We have toiled, and we'll continue to work for you, to serve you, and the people of Kenya.
00:32 I thank my nominators, and my chair, who is also here, from O'Keele, and all my friends
00:40 and colleagues who have come out to support me.
00:42 And just to tell all the members of the Law Society of Kenya
00:46 that it will be a service to all of you.
00:49 It will be an honor to serve each and every one of you.
00:52 And it's time that we make things better.
00:55 We continue to be a strong voice for each of our members of the bar.
00:59 We continue to be a strong voice for all the members of the public.
01:02 Have faith in faith.
01:04 Let's continue this journey from where we started.
01:07 And I'm sure the Law Society, under me, will lead to greatness.
01:12 The Law Society stands as an important player in this industry.
01:18 We not only work with parliaments, we work with the judiciary,
01:23 and our role is also to advise the executive.
01:25 So we'll carry out that role, as the Law Society of Kenya, to continue raising our voice.
01:31 When we see the excesses of government, we shall advise the government accordingly.
01:36 We will work with the judiciary as well.
01:39 Right now, you see we're all wearing purple ribbons,
01:42 because we are against any attempts to take over the judiciary.
01:47 We will not allow the judiciary to go back to the Moi era.
01:51 However, we'll also deal with the issue of corruption at the judiciary.
01:56 We are lawyers, and we serve members of the public.
01:59 But if also we have judicial officers who are not ready to serve the members at their rightful capacity,
02:07 and seek to enrich themselves, we will flag you out,
02:10 and we'll ensure that you go through the due process, and you cease to sit in those offices.
02:17 We will fight to ensure that the judicial officers that serve us, serve us with integrity at all times.
02:23 We have since admitted over 2,000, since I joined as the Vice President of the Law Society of Kenya.
02:29 We have challenges in ensuring they get opportunities for work,
02:33 and that is something that we're already working on.
02:35 Under my tenure as Vice President, we started the mentorship program,
02:39 to ensure that young lawyers not only get mentorship, but support in terms of getting briefs.
02:45 I hope to ensure that we have a more robust PL division, that the young lawyers can get more briefs,
02:51 as well as looking at our division under Parliamentary and Legislative Affairs,
02:56 to ensure that we are more robust and have young members taking up more policy issues,
03:01 helping us in setting up bills and the likes,
03:05 and also being able to flag issues affecting not only the Law Society of Kenya, but also the general public.
