01:08 and breakup in the early 2000s.
01:11 Their relationship ups and downs
01:12 were covered extensively in the media
01:15 with tabloids and paparazzi following their every move.
01:18 - We were about to get married, it didn't work out,
01:21 and it was just a bad heartbreak.
01:23 It was like a tough one for me.
01:25 - And now Jen's chronicling her romantic journey back to Ben
01:29 in her upcoming album and companion film, "This Is Me Now."
01:34 - When I was a little girl,
01:35 when someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up,
01:40 my answer was always
01:43 in love.
01:49 - Jen told Variety that her team had reservations
01:52 about Jen sharing her love life in her music.
01:54 Quote, "As artists, we have to follow our heart,
01:57 "and this is me following my heart
01:59 "and doing something that maybe everybody didn't think
02:02 "was the best idea, but I had to do it."
02:05 She adds, "We're older now, we're wiser.
02:07 "We also know what's important,
02:09 "what's really important in life,
02:11 "and it's not so much what other people think.
02:13 "It's about being true to who you are."
02:15 - We collaborate very well together, you know,
02:18 and nobody knows my story more than he does.
02:23 - Yeah, Jen finds comfort in telling her story with Ben,
02:26 who co-wrote the film with her.
02:28 She recently told ET what it means
02:30 to have him by her side.
02:31 - We were able to kind of sit down and really, you know,
02:36 dig into it in a way I don't think any other writer
02:40 could have done with me.
02:41 - And you felt safe.

02:44 that's the most important thing.
02:45 - Yeah, the scary thing is putting it out.

02:59 It was really inspiration, like being inspired
03:02 to make music for the first time like that in 20 years.
03:07 So you can imagine what the inciting incident was.

03:12 - And when the music was done, I just thought to myself,
03:15 there's more of a story to be told here.
03:17 There's been a bigger journey than just the love story here.
03:23 And so it became a much bigger, fuller project
03:27 with an incredible message.
03:28 And I realized I had to really get personal to tell it.
03:31 - Fans will get to hear and see that story
03:34 when the new album and film drop February 16th.
03:37 - It's gonna be an exciting year.
03:39 I'm really, really, really, I haven't been this kind of like,
03:43 you know, like on edge about a project in many, many years.
