00:24 Vape Nation!
00:26 *Airhorn*
00:29 And we mean really join it.
00:31 Because you'll be vaping for 24 hours straight.
00:35 No breaks.
00:36 *Gasp*
00:37 Okay, maybe we'll let you go to the bathroom.
00:40 *Cough*
00:41 Let's find out.
00:42 Is vaping really dangerous?
00:44 What would vaping for 24 hours do to your lungs?
00:49 And is it possible to overdose from vaping?
00:53 This is WHAT IF,
00:56 and here's what would happen if you vaped for 24 hours straight.
01:01 How dangerous is vaping exactly?
01:04 Well, we're not entirely sure yet.
01:07 According to the Centers for Disease Control,
01:10 there have been about 2,300 vaping-related medical incidents in the United States.
01:15 Many of these patients were suffering from chest pains and nausea,
01:19 but nearly 50 people have died from vaping.
01:22 Now, keep in mind that there have only been a couple of thousand issues
01:26 among 35 million vapers worldwide.
01:29 So sure, it's probably far from being a health food,
01:34 and vaping should probably be done in moderation.
01:37 But let's throw all that out the window
01:40 and vape for 24 hours straight,
01:42 just because we can.
01:44 First, we need to figure out what kind of vape we're using.
01:48 Let's go with the variety that contains nicotine,
01:51 as it's the most common kind of e-cigarette.
01:55 How many puffs would you even be able to take in a single day?
01:58 Well, let's say you're really into vaping,
02:01 so you want to take a puff roughly every single minute,
02:04 in between bites of food,
02:06 while you're going to the washroom,
02:07 and definitely when you're sitting on the couch.
02:09 If you were to do this,
02:11 you could take 1,440 puffs of your vape in 24 hours.
02:15 Fat clouds, bro.
02:18 If that doesn't sound like a lot to you,
02:22 let's put these numbers in perspective.
02:24 A 2015 study found that,
02:26 on average, a vapor's daily puff intake is about 132.
02:31 So multiplying this by more than 10
02:34 would be quite a lot of vapor, man.
02:37 And yes, we do mean vapor,
02:40 since e-cigarettes don't actually produce any sort of smoke.
02:44 Even though it can get smelly
02:46 and appears like smoke from a cigarette,
02:48 it's just water vapor
02:50 and either propylene glycol or vegetable glycerin.
02:53 But your vapor-filled room
02:55 will actually be the least of your worries
02:57 once you're about halfway through your 10 mL cartridge
02:59 of Galactic Milk vape juice.
03:01 Now you're starting to feel queasy.
03:04 That's because you might be starting to get nicotine poisoning.
03:08 Yeah, sorry about that.
03:10 We probably should have warned you off the top.
03:12 So how did this happen, anyway?
03:15 Well, if your vape cartridge is lightly nicotine-flavored,
03:19 that gives you about 12 mg of nicotine
03:22 per mL of vape juice.
03:23 And once you're about 500 puffs into your epic vape sesh,
03:27 you'll be about halfway through your cartridge.
03:30 This means you've just inhaled 60 mg of nicotine,
03:34 which is equivalent to about 60 cigarettes.
03:37 According to the CDC,
03:39 this is enough to get nicotine poisoning,
03:41 although some research suggests otherwise.
03:43 Regardless of the specific numbers,
03:47 smoking this much in such a short period of time can't be good.
03:51 And will most likely result in some sort of nicotine poisoning.
03:55 This doesn't mean you're overdosing,
03:57 which would result in death.
03:59 Luckily for you,
04:01 researchers think this is almost impossible to happen.
04:04 That's because by the time nicotine reaches a lethal concentration in your body,
04:08 you'll end up vomiting all over the place.
04:11 And it wouldn't just be coming out of your mouth, either.
04:14 It would be coming out the other end as well.
04:16 Although nicotine is used to relax and keep you at ease,
04:21 you'd be experiencing the opposite,
04:23 with heart palpitations and fading in and out of consciousness.
04:27 This would definitely be scary and gross,
04:31 but it would flush the toxins out of you,
04:33 so you won't die this time.
04:35 And if you're a vapor who doesn't use nicotine,
04:38 then you'll still have some things to worry about.
04:41 The heating element in an e-cigarette emits tiny particles that include metals.
04:46 These can be dangerous to the lungs and get into your circulatory system.
04:51 These particles have been linked to things like high blood pressure and heart attacks.
04:55 So if you were to do this for 24 hours straight,
04:58 there's a good chance you'd end up in the hospital.
05:01 Let's face it, there probably isn't a single thing that you should be doing for 24 hours straight.
05:06 If you are going to vape,
05:09 try not to do it for that long.
05:11 Please.
05:12 Another thing you shouldn't be doing for 24 hours straight
05:16 is going without sleep.
05:18 What would that do to you?
05:21 Well, that's a story for another WHAT IF.
