What do you think of the pavement parking ban?

On January 29 the City of Edinburgh Council’s pavement parking ban will come into effect, allowing parking attendants to issue £100 fines for vehicles parked on pavements, at crossing points, next to dropped kerbs and double parking. 00:14 Well I understand what the councillor is saying, but I think now with the amount of traffic in the town,

00:21 the congestion, that people are forced almost onto the pavement.

00:25 I think to get vehicles through, people think it's a sensible thing just to slightly park themselves onto the kerb.

00:34 So I think it's quite a harsh thing to impose a fine.

00:39 I just think the fact that they want to fine everybody from the city centre out,

00:45 it's coming further and further out, that people can't park at all now.

00:50 To commute about is very difficult.

00:52 I think that's a really good thing. Marlborough Street is notorious in Portobello

00:57 for people parking on the pavement on both sides of the street.

01:01 You can't get a fire engine down that road very easily.

01:06 And I've walked up there myself with a buggy and it's really difficult.

01:10 And I can only imagine the problems someone in a wheelchair would have.

01:14 So I think it is for the best.

01:16 It does mean that people living further along Portobello will probably end up finding more cars parking in their streets instead of on Marlborough.

01:26 I totally agree with it. I think it's quite dangerous when cars are double parked.

01:33 Quite often it pushes people in wheelchairs onto the road or people with crams.

01:38 And it's a problem where I live, down in East Lothian as well.

01:41 So I'd really like them to introduce it down there too.
