00:00 The Glamping Pod Resort is set to be created at Lightwater Valley Theme Park in North Yorkshire
00:06 after plans were given the green light the Yorkshire Post can reveal this morning.
00:10 The theme park announced the closure of the famous roller coaster The Ultimate in early
00:14 2023. The Ultimate delighted thousands of visitors to Ripon Theme Park since it opened
00:19 in 1991. Then the longest roller coaster in the world, it became so beloved among enthusiasts
00:25 that it was recreated in the video game Roller Coaster Tycoon. The Ultimate never reopened
00:29 after the coronavirus lockdown. A year on, plans now look to be in place to create a
00:34 set of 31 glamping pods on site. In January 2013, planning permission was granted for
00:40 the change of use of land to allow the siting of 106 holiday units. However, a recent planning
00:46 application was submitted to change the plans for the north east of the site from lodges
00:50 to glamping pods, smaller in size and with less environmental impact. The glamping site
00:55 is set to be pedestrian access only. The pods are considerably smaller in size than the
01:00 lodges and the application stated replacing the highways with footpaths reduces the overall
01:05 impact of the scheme. The application has now been given the green light by the planning
01:09 authorities and more details of the scheme are set to be released later this month.
