00:00 Something just arrived that's not native to this land.
00:03 Here's your look at the Nekatoys Prey Ultimate Feral Predator.
00:07 [music]
00:36 Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago,
00:38 Prey is the story of a young woman Nauru,
00:40 a fierce and highly skilled warrior who has been raised in the shadow
00:43 of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains.
00:47 When danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people.
00:50 The prey she stalks and ultimately confronts
00:52 turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with technically advanced arsenal,
00:57 resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.
01:01 While the feral predator goes and picks a fight with a bear,
01:04 let's grab the tape measure and see how tall it stands.
01:06 While I'm measuring this as well, I'd like to thank the folks over at Nekatoys
01:08 that did kindly provide this sample of the prey Feral Predator
01:12 that we can have a look at in this review.
01:13 The figure almost stands at 9 inches.
01:15 If I was to be exact, I would say that the feral is about 8 3/4 of an inch in height,
01:20 or it's going to be about 22 1/2 centimeters tall.
01:23 The feral predator sits somewhere in the middle,
01:26 not being quite as tall necessarily as the concrete jungle one that we looked at before.
01:30 This is what he looks like with the Deluxe Stoneheart Predator.
01:33 But he's certainly taller though than the Jungle Hunter as well.
01:36 A standard size body and build for what we normally get from Nekatoys.
01:40 Prey, in fact, I would actually say is my second favorite predator film right after the original.
01:44 I think the charm in Prey, for me at least, is it goes back to the basics.
01:48 And while it still follows a similar formula to the original one with Arnold Schwarzenegger,
01:52 it finds a way to do things a little bit differently.
01:54 But it certainly doesn't bring to earth superhuman sized predators with advanced armor.
01:59 And while this one is obviously a bigger predator than Jungle Hunter, for example,
02:03 I do really like the more simplicity with the approach that they designed the predator in,
02:07 especially with his kind of bone skull helmet that we'll be looking at in a second.
02:11 First though, let's run through the accessories that come included with the feral predator.
02:15 The figure comes included with, first of all, I wanted to point these out,
02:18 because these would be things that if you're taking the figure out of the tray,
02:20 I can't even pick these up.
02:21 If you were taking these out of the tray, all the other accessories that is,
02:24 you might overlook, did I? There's the other one right there.
02:27 You might overlook these. On the back of the tray, you have these tiny little hooks.
02:32 I didn't really quite know what they were for until I started to play around with the figure.
02:36 If you look on the back of feral predator, one of the included accessories, in fact,
02:40 is it actually comes with both a regular combi stick and then he has a collapsible version.
02:44 But then on the back, they've got just enough allowance here on the back of the figure's body
02:48 that you take these little kind of S hooks and you just hook them onto the back just like that.
02:54 Now, I can't tell you how many times I've already dropped these,
02:56 but it's just going to bring the arms out of the way.
02:58 We're just going to kind of hook these in.
03:00 Again, these would be just on the back.
03:02 They're very difficult, in fact, to kind of get in there.
03:04 These were on the back inside of a tiny little clear bag.
03:07 I mean, right away, if you were taking everything out,
03:10 I moved the tray aside without even really realizing that the bag was there initially.
03:14 But these just hook onto the back, and you would then take the collapsed version of the combi stick,
03:18 and that essentially would just be fitting on the back of the figure's body.
03:21 Now, I see the reason why NECA included these as separate,
03:24 just because, again, like the nature of these hooks.
03:26 They're such thin plastic, very likely to be broken as well
03:30 if they were just to attach this onto the back of the figure's body.
03:33 We've already had hooks on the back of figures' torsos for Predators that have always been breaking.
03:38 So, like, again, you're just going to take yourself the combi stick.
03:40 I don't have it completely hooked in,
03:42 but that basically takes the collapsed version of the combi stick
03:44 and finds a place to store it on the back of the Predator's body.
03:47 You'll excuse me if I just take these hooks for right now,
03:50 and I'm going to put them aside, because I know I'm going to lose them.
03:53 While we're certainly on the topic of the combi stick, getting the Predator to stand right now,
03:57 you get the collapsed version of it, which is making use of some really nice dark gunmetal gray
04:01 and some additional gold that's added there as well.
04:04 If you prefer, though, a longer version, it's essentially replicating the same look,
04:08 just it's extending the end pieces.
04:10 You can kind of see, like, these little lips of plastic are more folded in on the original one,
04:15 and, of course, the length increases quite a lot as well.
04:17 One thing they've actually done inside the tray is they made these as two pieces.
04:21 I suppose if you wanted to, you could have them as separate when displaying with the Predator.
04:25 Also, one thing it helps to do as well,
04:27 instead of having to always worry about fighting with the plastic of getting the hands,
04:31 which I will say right away is a softer plastic,
04:33 instead what you can do is just take the top half of the combi stick,
04:36 feed it through his hand, and then just literally meet it in the middle.
04:40 Take the end peg here and feed it into the hole,
04:43 and then the Predator can hold the combi stick without having to pry the plastic.
04:46 It's ironic to actually say that because normally when it comes to these Predator figures,
04:49 the plastic for their hands is always really more of a hard, rigid plastic
04:53 that a lot of times, in fact, actually requires a hairdryer.
04:56 I'm kind of pretending I'm using an invisible hairdryer.
04:59 But usually you will have to soften the plastic on the hands.
05:02 But ironically enough, you don't even have to worry that at all when it comes to this Predator,
05:05 as the plastic that they use for the fingers is quite soft.
05:08 So he comes with the combi stick.
05:10 Like I said, he comes with two variations of combi stick,
05:12 and he comes with the necessary S-hooks.
05:14 Don't forget those, whatever you do.
05:16 And that clips onto the back of the figure's body.
05:18 The figure also, as well, comes included with his gauntlet blades.
05:21 And we'll look at those next.
05:22 The gauntlet blades, instead of actually being already attached to the gauntlet on his forearm,
05:26 they made them instead separate pieces,
05:28 painted fairly nicely, or probably molded, I'm sure, nicely in silver plastic.
05:32 If you look at the figure's body, onto the side here,
05:35 he has actually two gauntlets.
05:36 One is for holding the shield, then one is actually holding for the blades.
05:40 If you look at the front, you'll see these tiny little slots on the front.
05:43 And just take the ends of those pegs,
05:45 just take the end of the slots there for the blades,
05:48 and you have to navigate them into those holes.
05:50 I've got to say, it's not an easy thing to do.
05:52 And all the times I've done this, when I go to then rotate the hand,
05:55 I usually pop these back out.
05:57 But at least it's something that's not permanently attached to the figure,
06:00 that at any given point, if you decide you want to remove them,
06:03 just, you know, pop them off and remove them from the gauntlet.
06:07 Just again, be careful of wiggling that, turning the hand,
06:09 because those blades, a couple of times I've done it,
06:12 even like moving the arms, in fact,
06:13 actually I end up just clipping these by accident,
06:16 and the blades end up on the floor.
06:18 I'm just going to remove those right now as well.
06:20 One thing I really also like about the figure
06:22 is the fact he comes included with two versions of his shield.
06:25 Again, the whole time, just kind of push him down,
06:27 make sure he's not going to fall over.
06:28 He comes with a retracted version of the shield
06:30 that kind of looks like the top of a helicopter.
06:32 [helicopter noises]
06:35 That's the sound of a helicopter.
06:36 You can see that there's the slot there on this,
06:38 and then this just basically clips onto this little opening area here
06:41 for this form, and then it just clips onto the end of the form,
06:44 just like, "I want to make sure I've got this facing the right way.
06:46 Do I have it facing the right way? I don't have it facing the right way."
06:48 Plugs in just onto the side like that,
06:50 and he has just like the shield always on the ready
06:52 when he wants to basically just open it up.
06:54 If you did want an open-up shield, then he also has this version here,
06:57 which basically just takes that propeller...
07:00 I'm just going to knock the figure over in the process.
07:04 Takes the propeller blade... [mimics propeller blade noises]
07:07 And it basically just takes that and opens it up completely.
07:10 So instead of actually having more of a collapsed version,
07:12 you have a fully realized, fully sculpted,
07:14 and dare I also say, a really nicely painted shield.
07:17 Darker gunmetal gray, the outer edges are kind of more of a purple color,
07:21 and then the interior also has that as well.
07:23 And this plugs in exactly the same way.
07:25 So I'm just going to again take that and plug it onto the ends of his forearms.
07:28 It's not enough to the point where you really have to force it in there.
07:32 I mean, any little bit of banging seems to remove the shield fairly easy,
07:36 so you want to make sure, of course, you're just not going to bang that.
07:38 The other things that the figure comes also included with as well
07:41 is his cross-bolt gun.
07:44 Try saying that ten times fast.
07:46 It's painted in the exact same sort of way as, like, the Combi Stake.
07:50 So it's kind of more of a lighter gunmetal gray,
07:52 and you've got kind of, again, kind of more of a plum gold color.
07:56 That's a weird way of combining colors.
07:58 Kind of actually, in a way, looks like a ship, too.
08:00 It's a really interesting looking gun. I really like the look of this one.
08:03 Probably going to be, in fact, displaying the prey predator,
08:07 the feral predator, in fact, actually with this gun.
08:09 I really like the look of this one.
08:11 It kind of keeps, in a way, that sort of musket that he has.
08:15 Kind of, in a way, kind of does that in a more futuristic design.
08:18 The last the figure comes included with, before we kind of get down to the hands
08:21 and the replaceable mandibles...
08:22 Should we go ahead and take the shield off? Maybe we'll do that also as well.
08:25 The figure also comes included with a backpack.
08:27 Now, the backpack... I looked to the sides here,
08:30 and I saw these little tiny slots, and I thought to myself,
08:32 "Oh, is that... must be for something,"
08:35 before I started looking and realizing there were those S-hooks.
08:37 I thought there was a way maybe to take the combi stick and clip those onto the side.
08:41 That's not the case.
08:42 I thought maybe, in fact, there was an open available slot to actually hold and house the shield.
08:46 But you can see, like, the side ledge of plastic is way too wide to accommodate the slots on the side.
08:52 So I think it's just more decorative than anything else.
08:54 You'll be really impressed.
08:56 I know if you already have this figure, you already know where I'm going with this.
08:58 But if you don't have the figure, you'll be impressed to see how this attaches onto the figure's body.
09:02 Normally, what you would be treated to is a peg or a peg hole on the back,
09:06 and then that would just simply plug onto the back of the figure's body.
09:09 But if you look on the back of Feral, there's no place, no apparent place,
09:13 that actually tells you where the backpack goes,
09:15 until you realize it's magnet. It's magnetic.
09:18 It uses quite a strong magnet, too.
09:21 And while, of course, I know this would add additional costs on NECA's part to produce the figure
09:26 by including a built-in magnet,
09:28 I really would love to see them do this for future figures,
09:30 not even just Predators alone, but any figure that has something attaching onto their figure's body.
09:34 This definitely makes things a lot easier,
09:37 and there's less likelihood of anything potentially breaking.
09:41 I don't know how many times I've done this.
09:44 So that just clips onto the back of the figure's body.
09:46 The last of the figure's accessories, as I keep picking up and putting down and picking up and putting down the Predator,
09:52 he also comes with a series of interchangeable hands.
09:54 Truth be told, I already have taken the luxury of actually removing the hands a couple of times.
09:59 Now, one of the hands he actually already has on him is a gripping hand.
10:02 So he basically would have a gripping hand on this side.
10:04 He would have the mirror flipped to that, then on the other.
10:06 And then he also has a gestured open hand on this side.
10:09 He would also have, starting, in fact, out of the packaging, already this hand in the sockets of his forearms.
10:14 And again, I just popped it off and replaced it.
10:17 Above and beyond that, the figure also comes included with closed fists.
10:20 The closed fists, if I can actually grab both of them correctly.
10:23 Closed fists, not going to find a place that comes, at least when it comes to displaying the Predator with it.
10:27 I mean, just for all the other accessories that he comes included with.
10:30 Too cool, too cool are the accessories that I would want to even really relegate any of them, if I have to, to be putting back into the tray.
10:36 The figure also comes included with a couple of other gripping hands.
10:39 And he also comes, most importantly, with a couple of also triggering finger hands.
10:44 Specifically, I would imagine, for also displaying with, say, the crossbow gun.
10:49 Again, you just take the hand.
10:51 Although, really, when you fit this into his hand, it kind of slides in such a way.
10:56 I mean, I would imagine the trigger is maybe probably right there.
10:59 So it kind of awkwardly does fit into his hand, unless it's supposed to sit further up, say, for example, the handle.
11:05 But I would imagine if he's firing this, the Predator would probably be wanting to fire it down here.
11:10 So it becomes a little bit difficult, of course, to take the hand and fit it all the way down.
11:14 And it does involve a little bit of shimmying.
11:16 But you also want to make sure, as well, that there's enough of the hand to hold onto it, so that the Predator's not dropping it in the process.
11:22 I mean, he even got it facing the wrong way. But, yeah, basically, it's just going to clip onto his hand like that.
11:27 Finally, finally, the last of the figure's accessories are two additional mandible mouths.
11:32 Mandible mouths. We'll put those to the side.
11:34 And the reason why I'm putting them to the side and not dealing with them right away is, of course, I did want to pick up the Feral Predator and show you guys what it looks like with the bone helmet on.
11:42 One of the really neat designs about Feral Predator is the fact it does actually have this bone helmet.
11:48 It's not something that we normally see when it comes to Predator figures.
11:50 Normally, you would just get a full-size, kind of armored-up helmet that basically would uncover his entire face.
11:56 This time, actually, it covers most of his face, about three-quarters of the way, leaving still the mandible down below where you can see it.
12:03 Now, I did think, in a similar way to the backpack, that this attached onto the figure's head by magnets.
12:08 It doesn't. It actually is frictioned on there.
12:11 And so it's just a case of actually forcing it onto the figure's face.
12:14 Just before we do the unveiling of the figure, I just want to show you what the head sculpt looks like.
12:21 Some really nice, intricate detailing done to the bone skull face.
12:25 Of course, you've got the long mandibles there, or the long tendrils, or long dreads, I should say, on the back of the figure's head there.
12:31 Most of them are separate. There are a few of them that you may notice are kind of attached to one another.
12:36 They're all kind of just painted here, just a very neutral black plastic.
12:39 Very nicely, a very nice sculpted figure, though.
12:42 Now, let's go ahead and remove the face, or at least remove the top part.
12:46 And like in the movie, we get ourselves the reveal.
12:49 Not really the most ideally designed Predator, really, when it comes to him.
12:53 I mean, his face is really kind of more squished.
12:56 And what's really missing, when it comes to this character's design, is he doesn't also have the top crown.
13:00 This is something that normally goes with Predators.
13:03 The face is definitely something a little more different, and not a lot of people really like the head sculpt.
13:08 I don't really like it myself.
13:10 I mean, honestly, when it comes to displaying the figure, I'm only really going to be displaying it with the bone helmet anyways.
13:14 I'm just going to put this down here for a second.
13:16 That's the last time, I promise. I'm going to be picking and putting him back down.
13:19 Just to quickly look at this, I did also want to show you, not only is it detailed on the front,
13:22 but if you look on the inside of it as well, I don't know how it really is looking at anything,
13:28 unless inside it's promoting or producing a screen of what it actually can see,
13:32 because it does have Predator vision still, after all.
13:35 It's a really interesting looking helmet, though.
13:37 And again, just putting this on the figure's face, I thought initially it was magnets,
13:41 because when you put it on the figure's face, I think it's just the fact that it conforms to the shape of the face,
13:45 but it kept falling off, and then I realized, "Okay, maybe I have to put a little bit more pressure on that,
13:50 and then that stays properly in place."
13:52 But going back, though, to the head underneath, the head sculpt has a closed mandible for at least right now.
13:58 He does have two available options.
14:00 He has one that has an open mouth, and he also has one, which is my favorite of the three.
14:06 He also has one that has a mandible completely open in the mouth, sort of more in a shrieking pose.
14:11 Changing out the heads, in fact, actually, or at least changing out the mouths,
14:14 you'll notice when you look at the head sculpt that there's a very obvious cut right here,
14:18 a sacrifice, unfortunately, that NECA had to make in order to accommodate the fact that this has to remove.
14:23 Obviously, it's not going to be as seamless, but I think it still does a good job of painting the figure.
14:28 I really like the additional clear coat finish that they've added over top of the paint.
14:31 It really gives him a nice, wet, realistic look.
14:34 Changing out, though, the mouths is just a case of wiggling back and forth.
14:38 Not you, not you, the predator.
14:40 Just wiggle this back and forth because it has to remove from a fairly long peg.
14:44 As we just wiggle this back and forth, you'll see how long that post is,
14:47 and that literally just sits then inside the predator's face.
14:51 If you wanted, for example, to go with this one, I'm not going to put it in all the way,
14:54 but if you want to just go with this head sculpt, you've got this one with now the open mouth,
14:59 or my favorite, really, of the three.
15:01 Just going to wiggle that back off and plug in the best of the three, I feel.
15:06 Again, if you want to display the figure like this.
15:08 It still has the open mandibles that you would normally get with predator figures,
15:11 but again, the top of it is a little weird looking.
15:15 Kind of, in a way, reminds me of a date.
15:17 No, not a date that you go out and you go to the movies, you go for a restaurant,
15:21 you decide who, first of all, is going to be paying for it.
15:23 I mean those little dates that you eat.
15:25 Kind of looks like, for me, like a date.
15:27 I don't know.
15:29 As for the rest of the figure's body, though, lots and loads of paint added here.
15:32 You start with mostly kind of a brown, kind of caramel brown,
15:35 but then they've added an airbrushing of sort of a purplish red in the front of it.
15:39 The red is nicely carried over.
15:41 You've got all the additional spots.
15:42 Now, what he also does not have, carrying over to what normal predators would have,
15:46 is the fish netting across the body.
15:48 Doesn't have it this time around.
15:50 He has all these nice silver accents, which I don't actually remember seeing in the movie.
15:54 The predator moves so quickly, and a lot of really the reveal is only happening at the end.
15:58 But I'm guessing these are cut or scar marks that he has on his body.
16:02 He's got one down there. He's got one there.
16:04 He's got one on his arm.
16:05 He's got one also at the top and the bottom of his chest as well.
16:08 He's got a bunch of them also on his legs.
16:10 Now, what he does still have and retains from a predator design is that he does have the loincloth
16:15 with armor, at least on the front of it, on the side of it, and also on the back as well,
16:19 with a tiny little skull on one section.
16:21 Looks like he's also got himself a tiny little...
16:24 In a way, that kind of actually looks like a little bunny head.
16:27 And he's also got himself like a little netting ball or something like that down below here as well.
16:31 This is all softer plastic that they would have used.
16:33 A really nice looking figure.
16:35 In a way, kind of actually like looking at this part down,
16:38 it looks and reminds me of Berserker Predator from the Predators film.
16:42 Not really a great film, if you ask me.
16:44 But all in all, though, a really nice looking predator.
16:47 I will still, though, be displaying him with this because I feel it's the best look of the three.
16:51 But I do appreciate the fact that NECA thought for collectors, at least,
16:55 that are going to be interested to kind of keep the helmet always off.
16:58 They at least gave him different mandible options.
17:00 Three, in fact, that you can change and mix and match to, of course, get the desired look that you want.
17:05 Running through now, the figure's articulation.
17:07 I know we spent a whole lot of time talking about other things.
17:09 Figure's articulation is the feral predator does have a ball joint, and it moves quite liberally.
17:14 I mean, you can move the head up and down.
17:16 But in addition to that, if I kind of just move things out of the way, he has a ball joint here.
17:21 If we just move the curtains out of the way, he also has a secondary ball joint at the base of the neck.
17:25 I mean, it's way in a way they've sculpted and painted it.
17:28 It's so easily concealed that you would miss it right away until you start to move the figure's head around.
17:33 You know, also looking at this figure's body, it reminded me a little bit of the Predalien.
17:37 I wonder if they could actually make use of some of this build and body for maybe a Predalien down the road,
17:42 but you still need to get a new ultimate version of Predalien that has a little more articulation from the earlier one that we did get from before.
17:48 So again, like the head does have quite a lot of motion.
17:50 He does have, again, that secondary ball joint at the base of the neck.
17:53 The arms come out easily at 90 degrees.
17:56 You can take those armors and, of course, move them back and forth and all the way around, really, if you wanted to.
18:00 The figure has a bicep swivel, a double hinge on the elbow.
18:03 That's always good to see.
18:04 Hands rotate also all the way around.
18:06 The feral predator does have, although it's a really clean-looking build of his torso, he does also have a ball joint.
18:13 The ball joint isn't as something that moves as easily as, say, like Jungle Hunter.
18:17 Jungle Hunter had a little bit stockier of a body here.
18:20 Because they've tapered the body off as much as they have, it just means that you're not going to be able to move the body as freely as other predators before.
18:27 So he has a cut right there, and then he has a ball joint at the base of his abdomen that can also move that as well.
18:33 The abdomen does a better job, in fact, of actually moving his body's torso than the top cut, because that just doesn't move as much.
18:41 Legs do split out.
18:42 They're on what seems to be ball joints on the inside there.
18:45 You can take the legs and move them forward.
18:46 You can move them back.
18:47 The figure has a swivel at the top of the thigh, a double hinge on the knee, and he has, of course, the articulation in the feet, both back and forth, back and forth this way, and up and down.
18:56 Just in case you're also curious, if you're having any problems with your feral predator tipping over, you can also use a display stand, and it uses just the standard diameter-sized pegs as all the other display stands on the market.
19:07 Good-looking predator.
19:08 Long overdue.
19:09 I know, long overdue.
19:10 You guys were waiting to see this review for a while, and hopefully it delivered exactly what you want.
19:15 Speaking of delivering exactly what it wanted, I will say that NECA delivered exactly the kind of feral predator I would have wanted.
19:21 It has tons of accessories.
19:23 It has, even again, like the option, even if you don't like the date head that he has right now, of course, you can always beeline it back to the bone head that he has instead.
19:31 I'm going to be displaying him with this, but lots of accessories, lots of posability, and really, again, a great-looking predator.
19:37 Whether you like the design of feral predator in the movie, whether, hey, you even really like prey predator as a whole, you've got to admit, NECA's done a really good job on this release.
19:46 If you are a fan, though, of the prey predator film, and would like to get this one for yourself, it should be available right now in retail stores and online.
19:54 At the time, in fact, of actually shooting this review, I just received my physical copy of "Prey," and I'm going to probably be watching it again this afternoon right after this video.
20:02 "Prey," again, was a great predator film.
20:04 I know some people really didn't like the main character, Nauru.
20:07 Speaking, though, of Nauru, as something we did get earlier with a release of Dutch, in fact, I think we got, like, three or four different Dutches from NECA from before.
20:14 I would love to really see them release also a Nauru that could be paired along with the predator, the feral predator here.
20:19 Now, the predator I've got currently displayed without his bone helmet.
20:22 This is not something that's going to last, at least when it comes to displaying it on my shelf.
20:26 While I do always appreciate the fact that a company like NECA throw in as much as they do, ultimately, though, usually when it comes to my predators, I'll always display them with the helmets.
20:34 And really, honestly, I still don't like the look of the feral predator when he's unmasked.
20:38 Just my own personal preference.
20:40 Despite that, though, I think NECA has done a great job on the head sculpt, painting it with as many layers as painted they did, and adding a nice clear finish to really give it that nice wet look.
20:49 I've got the figure also displayed, as you probably can already see, those S-hooks on the back, hooked onto the figure's body, holding the retracted version of the combi stick.
20:57 So he really does hold most of it.
20:59 I mean, really, I could have also just attached the shield onto his, on the end of his form, but I thought it was too much.
21:04 I thought it was overkill.
21:05 He's doing more than enough killing already.
21:07 I don't need to overkill things by adding so much onto the figure's body.
21:10 Big thank you, once again, to the folks over at NECA Toys that did provide the sample of the Prey Ultimate Feral Predator that we can have a look at in this review.
21:18 Let me know down below in the comments section what you guys thought of Prey, and in the order of predator films, where would you sit that film?
21:25 Also, as well, let me know if you've had the chance to pick up the Prey, or if you haven't, if you are planning to pick him up.
21:31 If you guys enjoyed this video, why not hit it with a like?
21:33 If you guys are loving the content you guys are seeing, and you certainly would like to stick around for more NECA reviews, well, I gotta tell you, you're in luck.
21:40 We are going to be looking at quite a lot of NECA stuff in the upcoming videos.
21:43 I see a stack of NECA figures.
21:45 You may not be able to see a stack of NECA figures, but you just have to believe me, there's a lot of NECA reviews coming your way.
21:51 So, of course, as always, guys, thanks for watching.
21:53 See you guys next time.
