00:00 The king of the monsters is about to clash with a computerized copycat.
00:04 Here's your look at the Diamond Select Godzilla 1993 gallery statue.
00:11 This gallery diorama of Godzilla is based on his appearance in the 1993's
00:20 Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla 2. It is made of high-quality PVC and features
00:26 detailed sculpting and paint applications. It was designed by Joe Allard and sculpted
00:30 by Jorg Santos Sosa. We're gonna be getting down to the details on Godzilla
00:35 1993 in a second. First though I'd like to thank the folks over at Diamond Select
00:39 that did provide this sample we could have a look at. One thing you may have
00:42 noticed omitted at the beginning of this review was actually the unboxing of the
00:45 box and even the fact that the box didn't even appear at this beginning
00:48 of the video. Judging by the really the size of Godzilla and then how much
00:51 allotted space the box needed to be, there was no way I could actually get it
00:54 to turn on my turntable so we had to do kind of without that. But what we
00:58 won't do without though is measuring off the statue. Just how
01:02 high is it you may be asking? Well Godzilla is impressively standing at 12
01:06 inches in height or it's gonna be about 31 centimeters tall. As for its length,
01:12 now it's just as wide as it is it seems to be high. So going from one in the tail
01:17 for example to the front of the ship that he's destroying, again you're
01:20 looking at it being about 13 inches wide or about 33 centimeters in width. With
01:26 everything that's happening right now for Godzilla, smashing success in
01:29 theaters for Godzilla Zero and we just recently got the trailer launch for
01:32 Godzilla X Kong, the sequel to the first Godzilla vs. Kong, I thought it'd be a
01:36 fitting time to have a look at this statue. It's a good sized statue as well
01:40 as we already measured off at the beginning of this video. One thing I
01:42 really also like about this may not look like it at the time but if you spin the
01:46 statue around say at around this space right here, they actually did take this
01:51 design from the original Toho Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla 2 from 1993. So if you
01:55 go and look at the poster for Toho, it's literally this this image of Godzilla.
01:59 Of course there's flame effects and Mechagodzilla is behind him. Hopefully we
02:03 will be getting a Mechagodzilla 2 that can go along with Godzilla but judging
02:07 really by how much tail space it's being occupied, it'd be pretty hard to kind of
02:10 put a statue then behind it. I really though like the idea that they actually
02:13 took the image from the original poster and found a way to translate that to PVC
02:18 plastic. Picking this up, I can tell you right away it's quite heavy. The bottom
02:22 of the base though as you can see is making use of kind of more of a
02:25 translucent opaque plastic. It's a big hole in the bottom of it. Even though it
02:29 is hollow, don't kid yourself, this thing isn't light at all. The bottom of the
02:32 base has remnant remains. You can see it looks like that's the tail perhaps of
02:36 Godzilla 2. You got yourself like a little satellite dish, a rocket
02:41 launcher. I think this is the thing that's actually on the back of
02:43 Mechagodzilla 2 and a few again like just debris all around him. I love the
02:47 way that they've actually done the smoke here but again like the base itself if I
02:50 could best describe it, there's a lot of heavy plastic happening here for
02:54 Godzilla. There really isn't as much here for the base and almost in a way it
02:57 feels like the base is too soft but still it's gonna hold its weight more
03:01 and fine and really I don't think there's gonna be a problem with really
03:03 necessarily with that. Head sculpt wise, it's a pretty good-looking Godzilla
03:07 also as well. Now again in the poster, he basically blasting his atomic breath
03:11 out the front. This would all be illuminated though in the poster. I
03:14 think they've done it nice enough job here for the plastic release of him. The
03:17 only thing I will say though is the flame effect that's coming out actually
03:20 out of his mouth just is lopsided. It's not completely straight. I'm sure I
03:24 probably could go in there with a hairdryer, heat this enough and this sort
03:27 of have it resting against something to get it a little bit more straight than
03:30 what it is right now. Getting though a closer look at the head sculpt for
03:33 Godzilla, I like the way they've actually painted his pupils. In a way he kind of
03:36 looks a little cross-eyed by the way that the eyes are looking right center
03:39 like this. They've colored nicely the little bit of white reflection off the
03:43 corners of his eyes. They've added a little bit of orange there also to the
03:45 sides of his irises and colored nicely the teeth both top and bottom rows. The
03:50 teeth are so small though. I mean look at the details on those just alone. I really
03:54 like the head sculpt. Again it's just a shame that this part of the flame
03:57 effect of his atomic breath kind of loop is lopsided as much as it is. I'm sure
04:01 again I could probably fix that. The colors though carry over as well to the
04:05 spine. As you can see they're starting at the top in smaller spine spikes. Try
04:09 saying that ten times fast. Then all the way down he has the larger
04:12 platelets that stick out the middle of his back. I like the way that they're all
04:15 illuminated here giving a more frosted color. There are a few sections that
04:18 almost look as if the paint's been chipped and I'm sure that's not really
04:21 the case. Again a really nice detail. All of these fins by the way kind of like
04:26 the base are fairly soft plastic so there's no likelihood I'm sure of any of
04:30 these really breaking. The spikes go nicely down all the way around his tail
04:34 as well. As you can see the tail spirals its way around. If we spin this around to
04:38 the back so you guys can hopefully see this all as well. There's a lot of good
04:41 meaty plastic that they put into this piece. Again it's got weight here
04:45 but it doesn't just have as much weight in the bottom of the base. Then the
04:48 last thing he also is doing as well is he ripping off the wing on one of these
04:51 jets. The jet is nicely colored here. You can see it's got a little bit of the
04:55 red. I think it's a jet. I'm trying to remember Godzilla 2, Mechagodzilla. I
04:58 don't think this is a part of Mechagodzilla. Maybe it is. Maybe it is.
05:01 You can see as well this piece is a fairly soft plastic. He's holding
05:05 essentially one side of the wing and then he's ripping off the other piece
05:09 then with his other hands. Again it's really got some nice detailing. They've
05:12 added a little bit of silver wear and tear to the bottom of it and also onto
05:16 the nose there as well. If I could spin this around so you guys can
05:19 actually see it from the front. Yeah it's a really interesting looking statue.
05:23 It's certainly one though that will require a lot of space on your part in
05:26 order to get this guy on display. He's got a lot of cool texturing. He's got a
05:30 lot of cool interesting paint elements added to him but again being that it is
05:33 Godzilla, being the fact he also has a tail, there's gonna be a good real
05:37 estate amount of space that's gonna be required to put this guy on
05:40 your shelf. If you are one that solely likes to collect Godzilla statues for
05:43 example, it's definitely worth picking up. Not for more than just the reason alone
05:47 that Diamond Select actually crafted this guy to be based on the original
05:50 Toho poster of Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2 from 1993. The fact that they were able
05:55 to replicate that is a really nice touch. Although it doesn't necessarily look as
05:59 much as it until you kind of rotate it. It's kind of facing that way in the
06:03 actual poster. Really nice release though from the folks over at Diamond Select.
06:07 Just as Godzilla seemed to take over the city, Godzilla collectibles in my room
06:11 seems to be also taking over as well. The thing that goes along with Godzilla
06:15 statues is just the size of them. I mean look at the size of just Godzilla
06:18 holding the winged jet in the front of him and the long tail that he has on the
06:22 back of the figure's body. There's a lot of really cool colors that they've added
06:26 to this. I didn't talk as much about this but I'll mention here in final looks I
06:29 really like the way they've airbrushed not only the spikes but the coloring
06:32 around the spikes as well. When you see on his actual back they've illuminated
06:37 some of the areas around his back so it actually does look in a way that it gets
06:39 glowing ready to be blasted out the front of his mouth. Again like the mouth
06:43 is a little on the bent side just by the way it was sitting inside the
06:46 package but again I'm probably sure I could get in there and fix it up. Heat it
06:50 up just a little bit to correct the lopsided point because it actually in a
06:54 way the way that it's bent right now in a way it looks less like fire breath and
06:58 it looks like more of a pointed tongue. Let me see if I can fix that. It's
07:02 definitely got a very elaborate base as well. I really like the smokier pink that
07:05 they've used here for the majority of the base and then again adding all those
07:08 little broken remnants all around Godzilla. It's a really interesting
07:11 showpiece. It's one that will draw a lot of attention to your room the moment
07:15 somebody walks by the statue and happens to catch their eye. Big thank you once
07:19 again to the folks over at Dime Select that did provide the sample of the
07:22 Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla 2 from 1993. What do you guys think of the statue? Let
07:27 me know down below in the comment section and if you have seen Godzilla
07:31 Zero let me know what you guys think of the movie down below. I'm still hoping to
07:34 check that out and I'm also excited to have a look at the Godzilla X Kong the
07:38 new one that we're gonna have coming out in Hollywood here. Although I don't know
07:41 I like the idea of them fighting basically just an evil version of King
07:44 Kong. I'm sure they probably could have come up with someone a little bit more
07:47 interesting than Orange Kong but of course I'll hold my opinions of it until
07:51 the movie eventually comes out. I was kind of on the fence of what I was gonna
07:54 feel like when it came to Godzilla vs. Kong and I absolutely love that movie.
07:57 But what do you guys think? Let me know down below in the comment section. Also
08:00 hey as well if you guys want to certainly stick around for more considering that
08:04 this is kind of Godzilla time right now we are gonna be looking at a couple more
08:07 Godzilla statues so that's kind of thing you like to come back to this channel
08:10 for certainly do come back but in the meantime though in the meantime popping
08:14 up the very end this video will be a playlist of other things I've looked at
08:16 for Diamond Select as well as you can check out my playlist for all
08:20 statues that I've looked at here on this channel as well. As always guys thanks
08:23 for watching see you guys next time!
