'We're open for business': Flood barriers fail to dent Ironbridge traders' confidence

  • last year
Business owners in Ironbridge have taken to social media to tell the world that they are open despite flood barriers being in place.
The Wharfage was closed to traffic to make way for the Environment Agency's demountable barriers, but companies there remain open.
Nick Barratt of Truffles Cafe, located on the Wharfage, posted a video on Facebook on Wednesday to show that a path was still open and the business was trading.

00:00 Hi guys, it's Nick from Choffers Cafe in Ironbridge.
00:03 Just to let you know that the flood barriers are up now.
00:06 I'll just try and come around.
00:08 So they're up now and they are expecting the river to rise to about 5.8 metres,
00:15 peaking on Saturday I believe.
00:18 But with all the rain we're getting it may go a little bit higher than that.
00:21 But we are still open. All businesses are open for business.
00:24 So there's a little walkway down here next to the harassed fencing.
00:28 So it is still safe to come down here.
00:30 You can't come down the Waterford because it's closed.
00:34 But there are still car parks at Ironbridge Car Park, The Square and Dalyan Car Park are still open.
00:39 So feel free to come down and come join us.
00:42 And thank you very much and see you soon. Bye bye.
