Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company
Giant semiconductor manufacturer TSMC announced that it is determined to "keep its roots in Taiwan" as it launches a huge facility in the north of the island on Friday aimed at developing the world's most advanced microelectronic chips.
The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company controls more than half of the world's production of microchips, which are the lifeblood of the modern global economy, powering everything from coffee machines and smartphones to cars and rockets.
The company is working hard to begin mass production of a 1.4-nanometer chip (that is, smaller than part of a fingernail) to overtake rival Samsung, the world's second-largest producer.
