Trump appeared to link this to Taiwan's semiconductor industry, saying Taiwan took "about 100%" of America's chip business with companies like TSMC. TSMC is the world's largest chipmaker and produces chips for major U.S. tech companies like Apple and Nvidia. The U.S. was once a major chip manufacturer but Taiwan now produces about 66% of the world's most advanced chips. Shares of TSMC fell 2% on the Taiwan stock exchange following Trump's comments.
