We asked people what should South Yorkshire Police make their biggest priority
Transcript
00:00 What do you think the police ought to make their priority for action?
00:03 I don't know if it is a police matter, if it would be police or not, but you know like
00:09 my big bugbear at the moment is when I pick my grandkids up from school and cars are parked on
00:16 the pavement, literally on the pavement and on zigzags and everything and I think this should,
00:24 I don't know if that is the police, if it is I think there should be more patrols going
00:29 around schools stopping this because it is dangerous. You see people trying to get past
00:35 with a pram, they can't, we see it every time don't we, you can't get past with a pram,
00:40 they have to go on road and it is the main road, so if they have got them sort of powers then
00:46 I am all for that. Can you tell me please what you think the police should be making their priority?
00:54 I think more like being visible on the streets and you can actually, you know like street crime and
01:01 tackling things like burglary, I mean you don't know until that happens to you, but
01:06 just more visible like less paperwork, more police, you know the thought, yeah.
01:13 What do you think the police should make their priorities for policing Sheffield?
01:21 No, there is a lot of problems obviously, off road biking, biking up middle of the streets and
01:29 you know that type of thing, but I am pretty sure that they have said there are plenty of other
01:34 areas that they prioritise, but same again, so it all comes hand in hand.
01:40 What would you like them to prioritise?
01:45 Probably social problems, you know, just in general.
01:50 Anti-social behaviour.
01:51 Anti-social behaviour, thank you, that is the word I want to try and find out, you know,
01:54 I think that is a problem in a lot of places, I don't know if you keep saying about reaction times
02:01 and things like burglaries and that type of thing, but whether that is something that would ever
02:07 change, but you know you get put on spot and you think yeah, police want more powers, but you know
02:13 you obviously need to sit down and actually think about it better, but yeah I think you know going
02:22 back a few years, police should have a bit of respect, I don't think there is any respect now
02:26 for the police and I think that is one of the problems.
02:28 Actually criminals should be their top priority, stopping crime rather than waiting for a crime
02:34 to happen and then say that they will come out and deal with it when they don't.
02:39 I think they are on a go slow myself, because they can't go on strike.
02:43 Well living in the town centre, I think it is about town, the shops got some more protection,
02:51 they have to put up with a lot of abuse, they have to put up with a lot of grief
02:55 and so do the customers going into the local shops and everything, so yeah I think that should be
03:03 within the town centre at any rate, I would see that as top.
