00:00 The most memorable weather moment for me in 2023 was the duration and the intensity of the heat throughout the Southern Plains,
00:07 specifically stretching from Texas into Louisiana.
00:09 And then the huge and quick impact that had on a developing drought.
00:15 Just going by the numbers alone, Dallas, 55 100 degree days.
00:19 That's the fourth most in recorded history.
00:26 Not only Dallas, though many Texas cities looking at tripling, even quadrupling their historical average amount of 100 degree days.
00:33 And it wasn't just over the interior.
00:35 We had those 100 degree days all the way to the Gulf Coast, including Houston.
00:39 But not only was it hot in Houston, it was dry.
00:42 In fact, for the month of July, just a trace of rain where you should see a half a foot of rain.
00:47 And even into New Orleans during the wet season in June, where was the rain?
00:51 Only 20 percent of the historical average.
00:54 What did that do? Well, the heat and the duration of the intensity of it took the drought from a lower end drought, a moderate drought,
01:01 to the very top end of the drought monitor.
01:03 Just like that.
