Tanoh Kpassagnon Postgame Interview In Week 15 | Giants vs Saints | Week 15
Transcript
00:00 You guys making up for some lost sacks or something?
00:03 I mean, did you feel like this breakthrough was coming for a while?
00:08 Yeah, no, I think it was definitely coming.
00:11 It's something we've put pressure on the quarterback and like you said,
00:15 we've been wanting more results and now we're getting them.
00:19 And I think that's gonna push us through the rest of the season.
00:24 Were your sack celebrations pre-planned or just fun things?
00:29 The pie, yeah.
00:31 I can't take credit for it.
00:32 I'll give it to our rookie.
00:35 He definitely had the idea of putting the Italian fingers up and
00:39 I think it was definitely worked out.
00:41 [LAUGH]
00:42 Yeah, pretty much.
00:44 You've had a couple of times this year where quarterbacks have escaped,
00:47 even when you've had good pressure.
00:48 What was the difference in being able to finish and
00:52 actually get the sack as opposed to getting the pressure and having them get away?
00:57 I feel like I said, we've been having good pressure on the quarterback.
01:01 And yeah, he's escaped sometimes, but I think as a D-line,
01:05 we've just been tapping that rock.
01:07 That's something I used to say at Nova, that's the saying we got.
01:10 Just keep tapping that rock until it breaks and today it broke and
01:13 things are gonna keep on breaking for us.
01:15 Is there something that you guys were concentrating on?
01:17 I mean, Dennis has talked about pass rush, lane integrity a lot.
01:21 Is that the kind of thing you guys have talked about and
01:23 worked on a lot in the last few weeks?
01:25 Yeah, and also being comfortable with each other.
01:28 We got a pretty new defensive line, so
01:30 I think it's just all settling in and we're tapping that rock.
01:36 And obviously to get into third and long, you guys had a pretty good run back there.
01:40 You guys had to stop.
01:41 Mm-hm.
01:41 Do you guys feel like you were just as effective in that area?
01:44 Yeah, and I think that's what added into our pressures and
01:48 eventually leading into sacks, you gotta stop the run.
01:51 And I feel like that's something we did.
01:53 St. Juan's a great running back and I think we did our job there.
01:56 What can you say about the restart to the game with Mario there?
02:00 Yeah, you can't start better than that.
02:02 So that's something else we've been working on and starting fast.
02:06 And I think just the emphasis we've put on that and
02:09 knowing what we can do as a defense, we just showed it.
02:14 As his sort of pass rush opportunities continue to take off,
02:17 what is Zach Vaughn kind of added to that?
02:21 Speed, I mean, that guy is fast, athletic, and it's a cool thing to see in practice.
02:28 And now he's finally getting his opportunities and he's getting pressure.
02:31 So that rock's gonna break for him too.
02:34 [LAUGH]
02:35 Is this your first three sack game?
02:37 Yeah, it is, for sure.
02:39 I mean, how does that feel?
02:42 Feels good.
02:43 Hopefully I can have this feel in every game.
02:47 Sorry if you already got asked this, but just what's your chemistry with Brian?
02:50 It seems like you guys work really well off of each other.
02:53 Yeah, I mean, he's just a great rookie.
02:56 He's somebody who's been asking questions since camp.
02:59 He didn't come in with any type of mentality of being better than where he is.
03:05 And he's always been a humble person and I think that helps with us having veterans.
03:11 He's able to soak in all the knowledge we can give him and
03:15 that's what he's been doing.
03:16 You mentioned that being special about a three sack game.
03:19 Even more so maybe in that it comes against a player who's got such a stir in
03:24 the biggest media market, right?
03:26 Cuz the league and winning streak has been playing so well and running around.
03:29 And so you know a lot of people are watching.
03:31 And you come through in a game like this.
03:33 I mean, how did you anticipate playing against him and
03:36 the context of three sacks in this game?
03:39 I mean, something we kinda harped on earlier is keeping the quarterback in.
03:43 And that's something we've been working on the past couple weeks.
03:46 It's hurt us a little bit, but I feel like today we showed we can stop that.
03:51 We can stop a lot of things and we get three sacks out of it.
03:55 >> Was there kind of an additional trouble for
03:58 the defense knowing sort of that fire or whatever it is, right?
04:02 That media storm that's surrounding the player coming to town?
04:05 >> No, we don't really buy into you guys too much.
04:09 No, I mean, obviously you guys got a job and you guys are great at it.
04:13 But it's something we like to tune out and kinda just do what we do.
04:17 >> So there was nothing to the celebration?
04:20 >> Yeah, the little Italian by John.
04:23 I'm from Philly, we got a whole bunch of Italians out there.
04:26 So I'm used to the Italian.
04:27 >> [LAUGH] >> Lingo, all that.
04:30 >> [LAUGH] >> So I was gonna ask you,
04:32 Philly guy had a three sack game against the Giants.
04:35 Is that anything extra for you?
04:38 >> Got a lot of text.
04:39 I got a lot of people back home watching, so yeah.
04:41 >> [LAUGH] >> Gaba Gould's ready.
04:44 >> [LAUGH] >> Gaba Gould, let's go.
04:46 We good?
04:47 >> Yes, thanks.
