00:00 Hello, I'm Sam Wharton and here is your daily Sussex News Bulletin on Tuesday, December
00:04 19th.
00:05 Worthing's newest restaurant has been targeted by vandals on the first day of opening.
00:11 Montague Gyros opened on Monday in the Montague Centre at the site which was formerly occupied
00:16 by Game and a luggage store.
00:18 A new sign on the shop window informed customers that they could receive a free chicken or
00:23 pork gyro on opening day.
00:24 However, the business hasn't been given the warmest of welcomes to the town with the front
00:28 window already smashed.
00:30 Worthing's Business Improvement District Manager, Hannah Mamsarolli, said the independent business
00:35 will be hit hard by this.
00:36 She said the initial reviews from customers were overwhelmingly positive and people were
00:40 so excited for them to open, so it's really disappointing to see such mindless vandalism.
00:45 Meanwhile, dozens of farmers in East Sussex have united in their battle to save and enhance
00:49 some of Britain's rarest wildlife.
00:52 Less than 10 miles from the site of the Battle of Hastings, the Pevensey Levels is one of
00:56 the UK's key wetland grazing sites and a designated site of special scientific interest.
01:02 Sixty farm businesses who farm on the Pevensey Marshes are now members of a cluster group
01:06 formed in 2018.
01:08 They work closely with conservation bodies and meet regularly to share ideas about environmentally
01:13 friendly farming methods.
01:15 Livestock farmer Martin Hull is the founder chairman of the group and still an active
01:18 member.
01:19 Mr Hull, who is also the National Farmers Union East Sussex chairman, said "Farmers
01:24 here feel strongly that the nature of keeping livestock on wetland is increasingly difficult
01:28 and so important it requires a collective effort and a grassroots, bottom-up approach
01:33 in which farmer experience is blended in with the wider conservation community."
01:36 Finally, a new holiday caravan site could be set up between Horsham and Crawley.
01:42 An application has been made to the Caravan and Motorhome Club to create a small five-pitch
01:46 site on farmland at East Street, Rusper.
01:48 If it goes ahead, the land would become a certificated location, meaning that the five-pitch
01:53 site could take caravans, motorhomes and trailer tents for club members to enjoy for recreational
01:59 purposes only.
