00:00 Barry, Merry Christmas, mate.
00:01 - Thanks, man.
00:02 - Merry-- - It's a bit early.
00:02 - Oh, no, it's not too early now.
00:04 As soon as you get into Christmas,
00:05 like into December, that's enough for me.
00:07 Not got my trip yet. - Is it?
00:08 - I'm primed, I'm just ready for a break.
00:10 - I keep forgetting it's Christmas.
00:11 I mean, the trees are definitely a reminder.
00:13 - When you're busy, when you're busy a lot,
00:15 it's hard to kind of like latch onto it.
00:16 - It is, man. - So you get like
00:17 a bit of breathing space.
00:19 - First of all, I've got to find out what day it is.
00:21 - Yeah, I'm nicely sore.
00:22 - Then I can look at Christmas.
00:23 - Anyway, what a saucy little stocking filler this is
00:28 for the use of Prime Video.
00:30 I kind of felt like, when I watched it,
00:32 I kind of felt like I watched a movie
00:33 with someone else's hands in my pockets.
00:35 - Oh, really? - Like, uncomfortable.
00:36 - That's interesting.
00:37 - But exciting at the same time.
00:40 What's that balance like for you as a performer
00:43 between the kind of, the buzz and the thrill
00:45 of doing something really daring, really different,
00:47 really exciting, and also the kind of,
00:50 the fear of doing something out of your comfort zone,
00:53 scary, that's gonna like push boundaries, push audiences?
00:57 - You know what, it's just, it's all like,
01:00 for me, it's like, I just wanna rise to it.
01:02 I wanna challenge, I wanna moment that I can show
01:07 commitment and maturity as an actor.
01:10 So any chance I get to do that, I'll jump on it.
01:15 And not only talking about the nudity scenes
01:17 and stuff like that, but it's definitely
01:19 a new territory for me.
01:20 And rising up to it is kind of nice.
01:26 - What's the reaction been from family and friends
01:28 and stuff, there's a whole critical reaction,
01:30 which is great. - I don't think my family,
01:31 my family haven't seen it.
01:32 - Really? - Yeah.
01:33 - So one of those you're kind of scared for them to see?
01:36 - Do you know what, not really.
01:38 They've got a word, kind of taste on movies,
01:43 so I think it'd be right down the street.
01:47 But yeah, they've not seen it, I am curious
01:50 to see what the reaction will be.
01:52 - Speaking about taste, what's your kind of,
01:53 what's your method of choosing roles?
01:57 Because you've done, naming some of them,
01:59 you've got like, what, Kill 'Em and Take 'Em,
02:01 Deer, Caramel Horses, Green Knight,
02:04 Animals, and Dunkirk, and this.
02:08 And every time you take a new step,
02:10 it's kind of like, it feels like you're stepping
02:12 into a kind of very cerebral, artistic direction.
02:17 Like you choose films that make audiences work,
02:20 in a way, which I find quite interesting.
02:22 Like, I wonder if that's something you go into a script
02:24 and you're like, I'm looking for a certain thing from this.
02:27 It's just kind of--
02:27 - I mean, yeah, if the part is like, you know,
02:30 I'm always looking to show range,
02:32 and it's, you know, with Banshees to, let's say, Soulborn,
02:37 I mean, there's a whole difference there
02:40 in the character and the demeanour and the way he's played.
02:45 So I'm always looking to show that I can do
02:49 on both sides of the scale.
02:52 But yeah, I'm always looking to humanise these characters
02:54 and make them real and justify their actions.
02:58 I don't really look at, I don't really go into the parts
03:02 and say, oh, I'm a sociopath in this one,
03:04 or a jont man, I don't really do that.
03:06 But yeah, I'm just looking to show range, really.
03:10 - Speaking about range, I think I saw an interview
03:12 with you a bit ago when you talked about this part,
03:15 you split into like five different characters,
03:17 five different people.
03:18 Like, which one of these people was your kind of,
03:22 it sounds like a basic question,
03:23 but which is like your favourite to play?
03:24 Which one did you get the most enjoyment going to work
03:26 and embodying that part?
03:29 - It would be the moments of when Oliver's listening
03:33 and watching, observing, you know,
03:36 that's the most enjoyable, you know,
03:38 the most time that, the best time I had kind of
03:43 discovering his character was when he's watching
03:47 all the people and he's plotting his next steps and stuff.
03:52 - I enjoyed that, the moments where you don't really know
03:55 who he is, when he could still be antagonist,
03:58 protagonist, could go any direction,
04:00 your sympathies are sort of floating in the air.
04:03 - You kind of leave it up for grabs, isn't it?
04:04 - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:05 And finally, you're only like 32, but you've done like--
04:08 - 21.
04:09 - 31, 31, let's not like--
04:10 - And the next year, I mean, Jesus.
04:12 - Let's not wish the time away.
04:13 You've already done like 28, 29 movies,
04:15 you've done like seven TV shows and all that stuff.
04:17 Do you think of yourself as a kind of
04:21 an accidental workaholic?
04:23 Like what's this experience been for you
04:25 the last decade?
04:26 Has it felt like you're on a freight train
04:28 and you're just flying through the countryside?
04:29 - Just being selective, you know,
04:31 I don't plan on getting back to it anytime soon either.
04:35 You know, I think I'm gonna take some time out
04:37 and then figure some stuff out,
04:40 but I just wanna be selective and, you know,
04:45 when I do something, I'll commit to it
04:46 and immerse myself in it.
04:48 Do you know, I don't ever wanna feel
04:51 that I have to just work, you know.
04:53 I even hate calling it work.
04:55 But yeah, it's just to be selective.
04:58 - Well, mate, I think I speak for everyone
05:01 and say we're looking forward to seeing
05:02 what you select next.
05:04 But you've been out of work, have a break.
05:05 Enjoy Christmas.
05:06 Work out what day it is.
05:07 - Yeah, I will.
05:08 - And we'll see you for the next one, man.
