General Motors Will Lay Off , 1,300 Workers at 2 Plants.
The two plants that will be affected are
both in Michigan, CBS News reports. .
They are Orion Assembly and
Lansing Grand River Assembly.
945 workers will be let go at Orion, while
369 employees will be laid off from Lansing. .
Production of the Chevy Bolt EV, which took
place at the Orion plant, will be suspended. .
In October, the plant delayed beginning production
of the Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV.
At the time, GM said the delay was
not caused by the UAW strike.
GM anticipates having job opportunities for
all impacted team members per the provisions
of the UAW-GM National Agreement. Lansing
Grand River Assembly will continue producing
the Cadillac CT4 and Cadillac CT5, GM, via statement.
UAW members who lose their jobs at the Orion plant will
"be offered other opportunities in Michigan, including positions at Factory ZERO in Detroit-Hamtramck," GM said.
Orion Assembly salaried employees will also
be placed in other internal opportunities
in accordance with GM policy, GM, via statement.
Layoffs at GM and other automakers
indicate growing uncertainty about the electric vehicle market, CBS News reports. .
According to Edmunds.com, gas vehicles continue to sell quicker than electric vehicles.
