With history dating back to the 1800s, Pudu has since then, grown in leaps and bounds. Despite continuing modernisation, the neighbourhood still houses some of the oldest and niche businesses that are hard to come by today.


In this Jalan-Jalan video, City & Country takes you back and reintroduces you to three spots in Pudu that have been operating for generations, namely Kedai Membaiki Beg, Knife & Scissors Sharpening Pudu and WS Printing.

00:29 Known as one of the oldest areas in Kuala Lumpur, the origins of Pudu can be traced back to the 1800s.

01:10 Situated along Jalan Pudu, Gedai Mbaiki Bag has been here since 1997.
01:15 They repair all sorts of bags including luggages, handbags, school bags, and even small bags or even zippers.

01:24 This bag repair shop was founded by Mr. Cheong, who was initially a contractor
01:29 but lost his job during the country's economic crisis, then found his passion for repairing bags.
01:34 After Mr. Cheong passed away last year, his children have now taken over the business.

01:47 This knife sharpening business has been around for almost 30 years.
01:51 Moda Yap, the owner, says he used to rent a makeshift shop located on the second floor of a shop house along Jalan Pasar Baru.
01:59 He sharpens and polishes them at home and brings them back to his customers at said time and day.

02:06 Located along Jalan Brunei Selatan, WS Printing offers traditional printing services for items such as billbooks, calendars, and more.
02:14 The current owner, Ms Yap, inherited the business from her father after he passed away.

02:23 What makes this printing shop unique from the rest is their GTO printing machine.
02:28 According to Yap, this machine has been in the shop since it was opened by her father 30 years ago.
02:34 This model has been discontinued in the market, leaving WS Printing the only few that still uses it.
