The BBC has announced this year’s nominees for the prestigious Sports Personality of the Year award.

00:00 The first contender is retired cricket player Stuart Broad. He finished his career by taking the winning wicket against Australia at the Oval in the final Ashes Test match in the summer.
00:13 Next is Frankie Dottori, fresh out of the jungle. In his retirement year he won a host of big races including the Gold Cup at Ascot.
00:22 The Lionesses goalkeeper Mary Earps is next, having helped her side to second place at the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand including saving a penalty in the final.
00:33 Tennis player Alfie Hewitt is another contender. This year he managed to win seven singles tournaments including two majors in his wheelchair.
00:41 Athletic star Katrina Johnson-Thompson is also nominated for winning a second Heptathlon World Championship. And finally golfer Rory McIlroy is named.
00:52 Mostly thanks to his heroics at the Ryder Cup as Europe won back the trophy in Italy.
