We asked Londoners what they think about having to pay to watch New Years Eve fireworks in the capital.
Transcript
00:00 With Christmas fast approaching, so too is the end of 2023. But how will Londoners be
00:08 spending their New Year's Eve? A firework display is always a popular choice and there
00:13 are many vantage points to get the best view in the capital. However, for those wanting
00:18 to see the countdown display by the River Thames, it costs £20 per ticket. That hasn't
00:24 seemed to deter people from bringing in 2024 by Big Ben, as this year's event has already
00:29 sold out. But is it right to charge Londoners to see fireworks in their own city?
00:35 I think people should be charged. It is a celebration but again we are polluting the
00:41 environment and everything. So I'd say all the proceeds should go to cleaning it up afterwards.
00:46 No I think it's terrible. I really do. Because years ago we always did, everyone it was free.
00:51 But with this, it's a bit calm. Not my favourite person. But no I think it's terrible.
01:00 Not to be charged. No. Should give us for free. We are charged for many other things.
01:07 And as for New Year and charging the London population to see the Christmas fireworks
01:15 and everything, New Year, disgusting. Sorry Mr Khan, you do a lot of good things but that's
01:20 not one of them for Londoners. It's all for the tourists.
