00:00 limit you at all?
00:00 >> Everybody, everybody's doing their stuff.
00:02 And they put the little injury report out there and
00:06 there's everyone, there's eight guys on every team every year.
00:09 And or every week I should say.
00:11 And everybody's doing their stuff.
00:13 I just, I grew up in a time where like, there are certain things that you're gonna,
00:20 you may not put your best film out there, but
00:22 are you still willing to go out there and be out there for your teammates, right?
00:25 And we have a lot of guys that make those decisions all the time.
00:28 Like, no, we're gonna be out there and it is what it is, yeah.
00:32 >> Derek, you're pretty good with transparency.
00:34 How would you assess your play today?
00:35 >> Sure, we won?
00:37 >> Won.
00:38 >> We won.
00:39 >> Gotcha.
00:39 >> I got enough yards and touchdowns for a lifetime, man.
00:42 I came here to win and hopefully we can just keep doing that.
00:44 >> Derek, everything you went through this week, how does it feel to get the win?
00:50 How are you feeling right now?
00:51 >> Yeah, my favorite thing is to watch my teammates celebrate themselves.
00:55 We got to go in that locker room and everyone was dancing,
00:59 coaches, especially team's coach right in the middle of it,
01:02 watching Reds dance and all that.
01:04 I mean, this game's hard enough.
01:07 And so whenever you can get a win and watch everybody celebrate,
01:12 knowing you see guys that smile on their face, you know what they dealt with all
01:15 week, you know what that guy dealt with.
01:18 You watch them and you see that smile, and like that's what,
01:21 that's those, like Mickey said in there,
01:23 like you're gonna remember the people you do it with.
01:26 And cuz you know their story, you know what's happening in their life.
01:29 And that's what was cool to me.
01:31 I saw two or three guys, I know they were dealing with some stuff nobody knows about.
01:35 But they came out, gritted out, and we were able to get a win, see them smile,
01:38 even though it was a hard week, it was really cool.
01:40 >> There was a report that you got a rib fracture, is that right?
01:43 And is that limited at all in anything you were trying to do?
01:46 >> I did, I've had a couple this year.
01:49 I think that's, I'm up to three now, which,
01:53 there were guys last year on the team here that were dealing with those.
01:58 And what's crazy is they had a whole bunch of them last year.
02:01 They didn't know exactly how to treat them,
02:03 just stuff to help you be at your, close to as best as you can.
02:07 And so ribs on court, any rotational athlete are tough.
02:11 But I felt good enough, they felt confident enough that I could at least be out there
02:16 and execute.
02:17 >> Is that like a mobility risk or a pain management thing, or were they both?
02:21 >> Yeah, because pain would be the mobility issue.
02:25 But we were able to do some things to help that the best we could.
02:30 >> Did that affect the game plan?
02:32 >> Sorry, sorry.
02:33 >> Sorry, Ted.
02:33 Did that affect the game plan, which you guys were trying to do,
02:36 trying to work around, which you could have been doing?
02:38 >> No, we knew, I mean, this game, they wanna stop the pass.
02:41 They hold their shell looks, they wanna take away the deep stuff and
02:44 all that kind of stuff.
02:44 And I think they're only giving up 180 yards passing all year.
02:48 And so you know the emphasis, I used to play that scheme all the time in Denver.
02:52 That's the emphasis, you gotta be able to run the ball to win the game.
02:55 And when you do have pass plays down the red zone, try and be efficient,
02:59 try and hit, gotta hit a shot.
03:01 There's just formulas to playing certain teams.
03:04 And it struck me, I'll throw 20 yards in a game and get a win any day.
03:11 Like I said, I came here to do that.
03:13 So however we have to do that, we've thrown for 300 and lost.
03:16 And that's a crappy week.
03:19 Like now, everyone have a smile on their face, we gotta win.
03:21 And whatever this game is, man, you just,
03:24 everybody tries to attack things differently.
03:27 And so going into it, it wasn't like, maybe they didn't tell me.
03:31 But I knew it was gonna be a heavy run the ball day,
03:33 cuz every time I played this game, you gotta be able to run the ball efficiently,
03:36 and we were able to do that.
03:37 >> But Derek, at what point does the way you win matter as much as getting the win?
03:43 >> Man, in ten years, I've been a part of some really big wins,
03:50 and you have a huge day on one side of the ball or the other.
03:53 And I've been a part of some games where you have a great day and
03:56 you lose, or some games where you lose.
03:58 And one thing I've learned is that you really don't care how,
04:03 us in the building, we don't care how we win.
04:05 You just gotta win.
04:07 This league is way too tough to try and nitpick.
04:13 The nitpicking is to get better for the next game, if we're gonna do those plays
04:17 and that kind of stuff, and get better individually.
04:19 But you just take a win any time you can get them.
04:23 You always hear a coach, I've been a part of these where it wasn't pretty, and
04:26 then, hey, man, we get a couple at the end and put it away.
04:29 And hey, it wasn't pretty, I've heard a coach say it wasn't pretty, but we won.
04:34 And so I've just adopted that, and I believe that any way you can do it,
04:37 you just won't win.
04:38 >> Derek, it was a unique play.
04:41 Did you get away with one on the one, or
04:43 what did you see when he threw that one that went to Andrews' feet?
04:46 I guess you were glad he didn't catch it, or-
04:48 >> I was trying to dirt it at Chris.
04:50 Chris had broken, safety was there, and I was trying to dirt, but
04:53 as I got hit, it just kind of fell to him.
04:55 But I wasn't trying to throw it to Andrews.
04:57 >> [LAUGH] >> It's not a target.
05:02 >> Derek, I'm sorry to belabor this, but when people see the quarterback and
05:06 the center arguing throughout a game on television, it's going to be perceived as,
05:12 this is just something bubbling out of the locker room.
05:14 This is something that's happening that we are now seeing.
05:18 What would you say to that, and does that perception matter?
05:21 >> The perception of it, no, no, that doesn't matter.
05:26 To say, I mean, I wasn't gonna ask you guys,
05:29 to say that there was a problem before, we had a great week of texting each other,
05:33 and practice, and laughing, and having fun, and all that kind of stuff.
05:36 So me and Eric have no issue.
05:40 In the moment, something happened, then the reason doesn't matter.
05:44 Everyone wants to know the reason, everybody wants to know the why and what.
05:47 Doesn't matter.
05:48 We were both right, we were both wrong.
05:50 At the same time, we both were like, my bad, he was like, my bad, I was like, my bad.
05:54 And that was it.
05:55 And I've done that with my two older brothers, probably 50 times in my life,
06:00 and it happens.
06:02 But when it's in a frustrating moment, and that kind of happens,
06:06 it is intensified as I've learned.
06:07 Cuz people wanna know, no, what's wrong?
06:10 There really is nothing wrong.
06:13 We had a moment that I've had some of those moments in my ten years,
06:18 a lot of times, with a coach, with a teammate, somebody.
06:22 And just I always learned, you always circle back, you make right, and
06:24 keep going.
06:25 But that kind of stuff happens all the time in practice.
06:28 I'm not saying with me and him, I'm saying just with teammates,
06:30 that stuff happens.
06:31 And you make sure you always circle back, make it right, and we did that.
06:36 And so I love Eric, I love Eric to death.
06:40 But I will be completely honest with you, there was no problem.
06:44 >> One last question for Derek and then Carl Brenderson.
06:47 >> Derek, when did the [INAUDIBLE]
06:49 >> Sorry, I'm gonna get down there.
06:52 >> You talking about?
06:53 >> Yeah, is that [INAUDIBLE] >> Yeah,
06:57 there's the other two, no one even knew.
07:00 I played through them, but the one was last week, Detroit.
07:05 >> But you'd already had the two- >> A different time,
07:09 it was a different- >> [INAUDIBLE]
07:11 >> It wasn't those two games,
07:12 it was a different game, yeah.
07:13 >> Cool.
