00:10:06 - A beginning to end is a movie.
00:10:07 - A beginning to end 20 minutes long, that's a show.
00:10:10 - A show is, they leave you a cliffhanger on the end.
00:10:13 - Not on kids shows.
00:10:14 Is it a movie?
00:10:16 Mickey Saves Christmas?
00:10:17 - Movie.
00:10:18 - Okay.
00:10:19 - And your show description was, ah.
00:10:21 - Yeah, I got it, I jumped around a little bit in my head.
00:10:23 And you guys heard not the good stuff.
00:10:25 - Packers, I think Packers are on a little run.
00:10:28 I got a little something later on about the Packers.
00:10:30 The playoff committee.
00:10:32 I thought the playoff committee got it right.
00:10:36 Contrary to everybody being very upset about Florida State,
00:10:38 I think that Florida State fans and everybody has a,
00:10:41 we can get into that 'cause I'm sure
00:10:42 that'll be a big topic of conversation.
00:10:45 49ers, just taking the Eagles out to the woodshed
00:10:47 and beating their ass.
00:10:48 Dallas Cowboys, I thought that they had
00:10:50 a great win against Seattle.
00:10:51 They're always used to being the front runners,
00:10:54 not being used to getting hit in the mouth.
00:10:55 They got hit in the mouth with the Seahawks.
00:10:56 They won a close game, finally.
00:10:58 Mike Evans, 10 consecutive 1,000 yard seasons.
00:11:02 So I feel like that, that's like a knock on wood.
00:11:04 That's like a knock on wood if you're with us type thing.
00:11:08 But yeah, that was my good list.
00:11:09 - Yeah, I liked all those.
00:11:11 My good, the gunner, number four for Iowa.
00:11:14 - Yeah.
00:11:15 - Did you see that parley turn?
00:11:17 Him hawking him down, slides and then runs back,
00:11:20 pushes one of his players out of the way
00:11:21 that was going too slow to stop a touchdown.
00:11:23 I thought that was, that was cool.
00:11:24 - That's textbook.
00:11:26 - Textbook.
00:11:26 - Special teams coordinators.
00:11:27 It's in there, not only their clips
00:11:30 to show all the new rookies who come in,
00:11:32 but it is also, as I tweeted in, their spank bank.
00:11:34 Like that is football porn for a special team coordinator.
00:11:37 - That'll be shown by not only the Iowa Hawkeyes
00:11:40 for generations, but it'll be shown
00:11:41 in a special teams meeting,
00:11:42 probably with every Power Five team from here on out.

00:11:53 - Will it also be shown on what not to do?
00:11:56 - Oh.
00:11:56 - I see you overran the guy.
00:11:58 It was kind of his fault from the beginning.
00:12:01 - Hey, Mitch, can you bring it up, Jack?
00:12:04 - Yeah, you're right.
00:12:04 You have a point there,
00:12:05 but if you mess up in the finish of play.
00:12:08 - Right.
00:12:08 - Let me finish my good and then we'll get into it.
00:12:10 - Yeah, you keep Brown off.
00:12:10 - Michigan being three-time Big Ten champs,
00:12:12 that's just the standard now.
00:12:14 Titans losing in overtime.
00:12:16 That's a win-win for the Titans.
00:12:18 You show that you can put points on the board
00:12:20 and you lose helping your draft stock.
00:12:22 That's a win-win.
00:12:23 49ers are the king of the NFL.
00:12:25 Dolphins, I think they're legit.
00:12:27 I know they haven't really played,
00:12:28 they don't play anybody until Christmas,
00:12:30 but I think they're legit.
00:12:31 - I like the Dolphins.
00:12:32 - Yeah, I like the Dolphins.
00:12:33 - I like the Dolphins.
00:12:34 - And then it was just cool to see Joe Flacco
00:12:35 in a Browns jersey.
00:12:36 - Yeah, shout out Joe Flacco.
00:12:38 - That was just cool to me.
00:12:39 I love that.
00:12:40 Let's see this thing.
00:12:41 What is this?
00:12:42 It wouldn't be a highlight,
00:12:46 Iowa game without a--
00:12:49 - Okay, now go back.
00:12:50 Yeah.
00:12:52 - What are you, how are you coaching that up?
00:12:53 - So it seems like the way that their gunners operate,
00:12:59 yeah, that's tough.
00:13:00 Returner did a great job kind of setting up that outside
00:13:03 and getting vertical.
00:13:05 But it's like that drill you work on
00:13:06 where you're using your mate.
00:13:09 If you want to miss a tackle in number four situation,
00:13:13 you wanna miss it on your left shoulder.
00:13:14 There are special teams,
00:13:16 coordinators, the way they game plan
00:13:18 is shoot across the bow.
00:13:19 So four would be going across the bow,
00:13:21 and if you missed,
00:13:22 you're making him hesitate and step back.
00:13:24 Because, I mean, going full board down on a returner
00:13:28 and you feel like you're one-on-one,
00:13:29 that is like, that's just the hardest tackle.
00:13:31 The expectation is obviously make the tackle
00:13:33 and get him on the ground,
00:13:34 but you try to equip and give the tools that,
00:13:36 hey, if you don't,
00:13:37 like don't think your job's gone if you miss the tackle.
00:13:40 So it seems like they're trying to keep the cup.
00:13:42 So keep your leverage.
00:13:44 If you miss, you wanna miss on the left shoulder.
00:13:46 That returner did an incredible job
00:13:47 of fucking putting both those guys in a dirt,
00:13:50 just getting vertical.
00:13:51 - Kind of slipping number four
00:13:52 and then jump cutting out of the way and getting loose.
00:13:54 Kids are freshmen.
00:13:55 Kids are freshmen.
00:13:56 A lot of opportunity there in the future for him.
00:13:58 That young stallion.
00:14:00 So yeah, that was my good, man.
00:14:02 I felt--
00:14:02 - What a slow way of winning the Big Ten Championship.
00:14:07 - I know, and that's kind of where--
00:14:08 - You're right, that is the good.
00:14:09 I kind of just lost sight that you guys did go through
00:14:12 back to back to back.
00:14:13 Like that is, that's a big, that's a big feat.
00:14:16 But as far as the Big Ten Championship--
00:14:17 - First head coach to ever do that
00:14:19 since the Big Ten Championship.
00:14:20 - So John Harbaugh, throw him in the good.
00:14:22 - Jim, but yeah.
00:14:23 - Jim, Jim Harbaugh, sorry, Jim.
00:14:25 - I think John's a great coach too, though.
00:14:27 - Yeah, John, they're doing some really good things
00:14:28 out there in Baltimore.
00:14:29 - No one's got it better than both of them.
00:14:30 - Yeah.
00:14:31 - I'll say that.
00:14:31 No, yeah, I think that was cool.
00:14:33 I was sick.
00:14:34 I gotta stop betting on teams that I like.
00:14:36 I really gotta stop doing it.
00:14:37 And that's like a conclusion.
00:14:39 I'm going to bet on Michigan again when they play Alabama.
00:14:41 But like at this moment, literally we're winning 10-0
00:14:44 and I'm thinking, all I can think about is my bet
00:14:47 and how I have Michigan minus 21 and a half
00:14:50 and the over, which is 35.
00:14:51 And I thought, you know, you look at the records,
00:14:54 the way they lost, they beat Penn State
00:14:55 or Iowa lost to Penn State,
00:14:57 and the way Iowa lost to Minnesota
00:15:00 and the way Michigan played Penn State and Minnesota,
00:15:01 it's like, oh, this is an easy dub.
00:15:04 And it was technically an easy dub,
00:15:06 but it didn't cover the total points,
00:15:08 which I expected Michigan to do.
00:15:09 - I'm telling you.
00:15:10 - I was sick.
00:15:11 I was really, you guys saw how much I bet on that game.
00:15:14 Just so emotional, so emotional.
00:15:17 And I'm not gonna do it again,
00:15:19 but I'm definitely gonna do it again.
00:15:20 Like I know I'm, as soon as we get
00:15:22 to the college football playoff, I'm gonna tell myself
00:15:24 all the things I need to tell myself
00:15:26 to make sure that, and I'm gonna put in a crazy parlay
00:15:29 that's only pro-Michigan, like I did
00:15:31 when we were going to Louisiana.
00:15:33 - Yeah, and it didn't hit.
00:15:34 - And it's not gonna hit.
00:15:36 It's not gonna hit.
00:15:37 But three-time Big Ten champs, man, that's awesome.
00:15:40 - Yeah, are you confident?
00:15:42 Now, here's a question to set all this up,
00:15:44 'cause it could be a conversation with everybody.
00:15:46 - I know this conversation's coming.
00:15:47 Do we wanna finish bad and ugly?
00:15:49 'Cause this is gonna be a long-winded conversation.
00:15:50 - Hang on, what I was gonna ask is,
00:15:52 so I have the good playoff committee.
00:15:54 Did you have them in there in bad or ugly?
00:15:56 - No, no, no, no, I didn't put 'em in there.
00:15:59 I thought they did a really good job, though.
00:16:01 I think they had the four best teams,
00:16:02 besides Georgia not being in it.
00:16:06 I think Georgia should've probably been in it,
00:16:07 but where do you put 'em in?
00:16:08 'Cause Michigan obviously needs to be in Washington.
00:16:10 - How'd you think Georgia should've been in?
00:16:11 Like, what was your four?
00:16:12 What did you think they should've done?
00:16:13 - I think if you're gonna keep a team out,
00:16:14 you keep Alabama out, going from eight to four.
00:16:17 Jumping four spots, and then moving
00:16:19 the number one seed back four spots.
00:16:21 - But how are you not gonna put,
00:16:23 if Bama just beats the number one team in the country--
00:16:25 - That's why we need the 12 teams.
00:16:26 - On a neutral site.
00:16:27 Yeah, a 12 team one would've been a lot of fun.
00:16:29 - It'd have been perfect.
00:16:30 - But how, like, to you, how are you going to,
00:16:34 are you just saying based on where they're ranked,
00:16:36 you don't put 'em in there?
00:16:36 Because it's like, Bama's literally showing
00:16:39 that they're better and beat the number one team
00:16:41 in the country.
00:16:42 - So if you-- - So why would you have
00:16:43 Georgia in the one that can go get it all,
00:16:44 and not Alabama?
00:16:45 - I don't disagree that Alabama should be in this playoff.
00:16:48 It's hard for me to not have Georgia in it,
00:16:49 because if, let's say this game,
00:16:52 let's say it was September,
00:16:53 just like Alabama losing to Texas.
00:16:56 If Alabama beat Georgia in September,
00:16:59 and Georgia goes and wins the SEC, Georgia's in it.
00:17:04 - Right, 'cause they avenge their loss.
00:17:06 - Right, they avenge their loss.
00:17:08 But I'm saying, to me, it's like,
00:17:10 you can't put Alabama in without putting Texas in,
00:17:13 and Washington has to be in, and Michigan has to be in.
00:17:15 So I agree with the four spots.
00:17:18 But from a Georgia's perspective,
00:17:19 you win two national championships in a row,
00:17:21 and you lose one game, you're 29 and one,
00:17:25 in the last three years.
00:17:27 - So what would your four would have been,
00:17:28 Georgia, Alabama? - No, no, no.
00:17:31 I think the committee got it right.
00:17:33 I have, it's hard, if I was gonna argue something,
00:17:35 it's gonna be Georgia,
00:17:37 because I think they're one of the four best teams.
00:17:40 - Anybody else feel like the committee didn't get it right?
00:17:43 I care, you're in, so.
00:17:45 - Yeah. - I know you're excited.
00:17:47 Jack, Mitch, JP?
00:17:49 - You just kinda have to feel bad for Florida State.
00:17:52 I agree with them not being in it.
00:17:54 Like, if Jordan Travis was playing,
00:17:56 obviously they would be in there.
00:17:57 JP brought up a good point this morning,
00:17:59 like, you almost wish Jordan got hurt
00:18:02 in the championship game, and they still won,
00:18:05 'cause then it would have a better reasoning
00:18:08 for them to get in, but you just kinda have to feel bad.
00:18:10 - Yeah, like, yeah.
00:18:12 - Herb Street had a good comment about it,
00:18:14 like, if JJ McCarthy gets hurt
00:18:16 in the way that Florida State got hurt,
00:18:18 they wouldn't be in it.
00:18:20 If Alabama's quarterback got hurt,
00:18:21 if any of these teams' quarterbacks got hurt,
00:18:23 if Pennix got hurt from Washington,
00:18:25 the same situation would probably happen to that team.
00:18:28 - I think late in the year, say if Pennix gets hurt
00:18:31 in the conference championship,
00:18:34 then it kinda hurts college football,
00:18:36 because you could miss out on an opportunity,
00:18:38 like when Tua comes in for Jalen Hurts,
00:18:41 and it's like this magical, oh my gosh,
00:18:44 who's this backup, he's elite.
00:18:46 I'm glad it didn't play out that way.
00:18:48 - Great point, but--
00:18:49 - When I was, after the Michigan game,
00:18:52 and I was trying to figure out in my head
00:18:53 who's gonna go where, like,
00:18:54 trying to play that game in my head,
00:18:56 I looked up third string quarterbacks
00:18:57 that won the national championship,
00:18:58 and was it Cardell Jones from Ohio State,
00:19:01 third string, played three games,
00:19:03 and won the national championship.
00:19:05 And Ohio State, obviously, was allowed in it and all that.
00:19:08 So I really thought Florida State was gonna be in it.
00:19:10 I really did.
00:19:11 - Yeah, it's tough, it's tough, too.
00:19:13 Like, you go undefeated 13 and 0,
00:19:15 and you have a team that is embracing
00:19:16 the next man up mentality,
00:19:18 like the Cardell Jones of the world, Tua's,
00:19:21 yeah, again, frustration is definitely justified.
00:19:25 - Yeah, I love the head coach's statement he put out.
00:19:29 Disgusted was in the first three words.
00:19:31 'Cause, I mean, if you're Florida State,
00:19:33 if you're Tallahassee, you gotta be sick right now.
00:19:35 - Yeah, they are.
00:19:36 - 'Cause you had a good ball club, you had a good team,
00:19:38 you guys played good teams, and you beat good teams.
00:19:40 - But the good thing is, they're getting to play
00:19:41 in the Orange Bowl against Georgia,
00:19:43 which I think that's a great, that's a fuckin',
00:19:45 that's a big time game. - Yeah, Georgia's gonna
00:19:46 mop the floor with them, though.
00:19:47 Because if they would've let Florida State in--
00:19:48 - If they do, it just proves that it was the right decision
00:19:51 to keep them out of the playoffs.
00:19:52 I think that they have a more, like, you know,
00:19:54 they're gonna do the thing to where,
00:19:56 say they beat Georgia, we're national champions.
00:19:58 They make the rings, we're national champions.
00:20:00 We went undefeated. - Like UCF?
00:20:00 - Like UCF did.
00:20:02 - You know, that'd be, they should do that.
00:20:05 They should absolutely do that.
00:20:05 What were you gonna say, G?
00:20:06 - Georgia has opened against,
00:20:08 Florida State is a 14-point favorite.
00:20:12 - Yeah. - That's tough.
00:20:14 - Yeah. - Yeah.
00:20:15 - And it might go up.
00:20:16 - But we've seen teams as high as
00:20:18 nine and a half point favorites lose.
00:20:21 Oregon, Washington.
00:20:22 - How about that game, man?
00:20:23 What did you think about that? - Washington showed up big.
00:20:24 Washington showed up big.
00:20:26 - I thought they were gonna run away with it
00:20:27 in the second half.
00:20:28 I thought they were.
00:20:29 'Cause they were, what, over 10 points up, right?
00:20:32 - Right.
00:20:33 - I know.
00:20:34 It was a good weekend of college football, for sure,
00:20:37 aside from Michigan, Iowa.
00:20:39 - So how do you feel about Michigan getting,
00:20:41 pulling Alabama as their first game?
00:20:44 'Cause obviously you see the,
00:20:45 so starting off my bad is Michigan's reaction
00:20:47 to Alabama getting pulled.
00:20:49 - Yeah, I didn't like that reaction either.
00:20:51 But people wanna just say,
00:20:53 oh, it was 'cause they felt bad for Florida State.
00:20:55 They just, I thought they were gonna play Florida State.
00:20:58 I did too, so my first reaction was like--
00:20:59 - That's what you wanted, right?
00:21:01 - Yeah, 'cause here's-- - Here's your team.
00:21:02 - This is the most logical thought process,
00:21:06 is if you wanna have success,
00:21:09 you gotta go through hard times,
00:21:11 but you want the path of least resistance.
00:21:13 Everybody does, everything we wanna accomplish,
00:21:15 we all wanna do it,
00:21:16 but we want the path of least resistance.
00:21:18 That path is obviously Florida State,
00:21:20 and they're undefeated, and so you're like,
00:21:22 yo, come on, Florida State, get in this thing.
00:21:25 And then when they see it, they're like, fuck.
00:21:27 And for me, the last time Michigan played Alabama
00:21:30 was 2012 in the Cowboy Classic.
00:21:32 - Oh, I think they played 'em again in 2019.
00:21:34 - Did they play 'em again?
00:21:35 - Something like that, they gotta be pretty good too.
00:21:37 - I didn't know that, so the last time,
00:21:39 so my taste in my mouth is like,
00:21:40 god damn, the SEC, the Alabama,
00:21:43 I'm thinking we'll get them at the end,
00:21:47 a national championship.
00:21:48 And I've said this to you guys this morning,
00:21:51 like we all knew here that Michigan
00:21:53 was gonna win the Bayton Championship,
00:21:54 whether we liked it or not.
00:21:55 We all had, we're like, Michigan's probably--
00:21:57 - There was a shot, Iowa had a shot.
00:22:00 - We all knew that Michigan was gonna win
00:22:01 the Bayton Championship.
00:22:02 This is the next step we gotta take,
00:22:04 'cause this is the best team Michigan's had in forever.
00:22:07 And so yeah, SEC, Big Bad Wolf, Alabama,
00:22:09 Big Bad Wolf for the longest time, the last 20 years.
00:22:12 This is the underdogs, we're the underdogs, dude.
00:22:16 We are the underdogs of college football.
00:22:18 No, go ahead, what was it?
00:22:21 - No, no, no, no, it doesn't pertain to this.
00:22:24 It does not pertain to this.
00:22:25 - Well, it's the quote for them that I always say,
00:22:28 "One often meets his destiny
00:22:30 "on the path he takes to avoid it."
00:22:32 They wanted Florida State, they got Alabama.
00:22:35 - Yeah, they would just drop the gym out here.
00:22:39 - Fourth time I've heard it this morning.
00:22:41 - That's all right, now everybody gets to hear it.
00:22:44 Everybody gets to hear it, hey, we're trying to get you
00:22:46 on the track of, hey, you gotta be the Big Bad.
00:22:49 To me, it's like, you're the team
00:22:50 that wants to be the bad boy of college football, right?
00:22:52 Like, the whole NCAA's been against them.
00:22:54 So it's like embracing that, hey, we're the bad boys,
00:22:56 we're number one, whoever fucking wants it.
00:22:59 It's you against, it's Michigan versus everybody.
00:23:02 Then when they pull and it's like, oh, shit, damn.
00:23:06 - Yeah, I did not like that.
00:23:07 - This is a tough start.
00:23:09 - I texted some boys, I was like,
00:23:10 I'm gonna need an explanation on that reaction.
00:23:12 - And then you're trying to, you're navigating it
00:23:14 as you should, you're trying to take a moment,
00:23:16 hey, you know, fear can be an option, I guess,
00:23:19 because now you want them to be an underdog.
00:23:21 - What does Mike Tyson say about fear?
00:23:24 - Tell us.
00:23:25 - Fear's like fire, all right?
00:23:26 If you use it properly, it can feed you,
00:23:29 it can keep you warm in the winter,
00:23:30 it can support your lifestyle.
00:23:33 But if you let it get out of hand, it can cause fires,
00:23:35 it can cause damage, it can ruin your entire life.
00:23:37 Fear is a healthy thing to have.
00:23:39 - And if Michigan is having that conversation right now,
00:23:42 that is a, we gotta have this conversation
00:23:44 because here's the energy in the room.
00:23:46 - Yeah, I agree.
00:23:47 And like I said earlier, I didn't like Dave's approach to it.
00:23:51 - Dave was the big bad wolf, like, hey, whoever wants it.
00:23:53 - I get it, I get it.
00:23:55 And it is inevitably going to be whoever wants it.
00:23:58 But when you're behind closed doors,
00:23:59 as they should have been in that moment,
00:24:01 and you go, oh, fuck, yeah, we got Alabama,
00:24:05 we got what we wanted, essentially,
00:24:07 is like, we want the SEC, we're gonna get 'em.
00:24:09 You gotta take that moment and be like,
00:24:12 no, I mean, you got what you want,
00:24:13 eventually you're gonna have to play the SEC anyway
00:24:14 if you want to win the National Championship.
00:24:15 If you wanna win the National Championship.
00:24:16 - Yeah, but that was the game,
00:24:17 like this could have been the first time
00:24:18 where SEC's left out of the college football.
00:24:21 - Yeah, I don't think, yeah, I guess if,
00:24:23 there was a reason not to put Georgia in it,
00:24:24 but who do you put in, not put Alabama in it,
00:24:26 but who do you put in if you don't put Alabama in it?
00:24:28 - It would have been Florida State.
00:24:31 - It would have been Michigan, Washington,
00:24:32 Texas, and Florida State?
00:24:33 That would have been great.
00:24:36 - That would have been the easiest way to go, boys.
00:24:38 It would have been the easiest way to go.
00:24:41 Listen, there are nerves to this game.
00:24:43 To me, it's like, I've been confident
00:24:45 in every single game Michigan's played,
00:24:47 but what have we seen in the college playoff?
00:24:48 This is where I sit with you guys,
00:24:49 and you guys have said to me all year,
00:24:50 yeah, but they get dumb, now we're here,
00:24:53 and this is our opportunity to take the next step.
00:24:55 We beat Alabama, we're winning the National Championship.
00:24:58 Plain and simple, that is going to happen.
00:25:01 We are going to beat Alabama, we are.
00:25:03 - Hey, have you-- - You guys,
00:25:04 you don't even believe. - You know what I'm saying?
00:25:05 - You don't believe, you know what I'm saying?
00:25:06 - What do you mean?
00:25:07 - You don't believe that right now?
00:25:08 - See, that's the issue with y'all.
00:25:10 I can't talk my way through these emotions.
00:25:13 - You. - No.
00:25:14 - You were five and seven.
00:25:17 - Hey, have you heard what--
00:25:18 - Y'all don't even know.
00:25:19 - Have you heard what Muhammad Salaam says?
00:25:22 Those who live in illusions die in reality.
00:25:27 - You hear that, Will?
00:25:27 (laughing)
00:25:29 - You hear that, Will?
00:25:30 - What?
00:25:32 What illusion am I living in right now?
00:25:33 - Nebraska, every year.
00:25:35 - Hang on, hang on, this, this, dude, you are,
00:25:38 what happens, I die in reality.
00:25:40 So what, 10 toes down, I'm confident
00:25:42 in whatever game we were playing.
00:25:44 - Monday after they lost to Iowa, he goes,
00:25:47 you can't tell me they're not gonna go six and O.
00:25:49 - Based on the trajectory of the year
00:25:50 and what we have in house and recruits that we can bring in,
00:25:53 hey, we just landed a four-star offensive lineman.
00:25:55 We're landing cats, like--
00:25:57 - What'd you say a week ago?
00:25:59 It doesn't matter until he signs.
00:26:00 - Yeah, that's-- - He's committed.
00:26:03 - That's true.
00:26:04 - That's true.
00:26:05 But Nebraska-- - Michigan's gonna win.
00:26:06 Michigan's gonna beat the SEC.
00:26:07 - Nebraska's not even a part of this conversation.
00:26:09 We're out of it, it's over.
00:26:10 - It's over, it's right.
00:26:11 - He's just saying you're talking through
00:26:13 a lot of illusions right here
00:26:14 and you're about to die in reality.
00:26:16 - I agree, I understand, listen,
00:26:17 I understand the war I deal with
00:26:18 when it comes to college football on this bus.
00:26:20 I get it.
00:26:21 And I, would I be saying I wasn't nervous about Alabama?
00:26:23 Would I be lying?
00:26:24 Yes, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous about Alabama.
00:26:26 However, in a month, less than a month's time,
00:26:30 Michigan is going to defeat Alabama
00:26:32 and shock the entire world.
00:26:34 'Cause everybody, people put bets in
00:26:38 for Alabama to win the national championship
00:26:39 this past weekend.
00:26:40 - Hey, can you put up a--
00:26:41 - Garrett did.
00:26:42 Will did too, but he was in Texas.
00:26:44 - Can you put up the Overly Direct Take?
00:26:45 - He did in August.
00:26:46 What were the odds in August?
00:26:48 - So-- - 700?
00:26:50 - This Overly Direct Take is brought to you by DirecTV.
00:26:54 DirecTV is the ultimate destination for pro football
00:26:57 where fans can get their football fix this season.
00:26:59 Whether you're watching the games live on TV or streaming,
00:27:02 DirecTV has you covered.
00:27:03 And you can get DirecTV without satellite.
00:27:07 Again, you can stream, stop compromising,
00:27:08 start watching football.
00:27:09 Call 1-800-DIRECTV for more information.
00:27:13 My Overly Direct Take is Alabama wins the national title.
00:27:17 And it sucked that I couldn't put $1,000 on them
00:27:20 when they were plus 480
00:27:21 when the college football playoff wasn't determined,
00:27:23 but I still got them locked in at plus 200.
00:27:26 - Great.
00:27:28 - That's my Overly Direct Take.
00:27:29 - My Overly Direct Take,
00:27:30 Michigan wins the national championship.
00:27:31 I'll be betting that today.
00:27:33 - Bet it right now. - I'm gonna bet it right now.
00:27:34 - Right now.
00:27:34 - Do the same amount you did for--
00:27:36 - I don't have that much in my account.
00:27:38 - What do we think about the Texas-Washington matchup?
00:27:44 - I love it.
00:27:45 - Yeah. - JP brought up a good stat
00:27:48 earlier that they played last year in the bowl game.
00:27:50 Which bowl game was it?
00:27:51 - Alamo Bowl.
00:27:52 - Alamo Bowl, and it was only a one-score game.
00:27:54 Alamo Bowl.
00:27:55 - Alamo Bowl. - But it was only
00:27:56 a one-score game.
00:27:56 I think Washington was one of those teams, too,
00:28:00 that was kind of getting left out of the conversation
00:28:02 for a Colada to Cotswold playoff
00:28:04 because they were nine and a half point underdogs
00:28:06 against Oregon, which was wild.
00:28:08 But Oregon was on a tear going into that game.
00:28:13 So everyone figured and assumed that Oregon
00:28:16 would win that game.
00:28:17 But Washington, man, they showed up
00:28:19 and taking care of business.
00:28:20 Pennix is awesome, but I do think a lot of people
00:28:23 doubt Washington are not even talking about them
00:28:25 to win the national title,
00:28:26 even though they have went undefeated 13 and 0
00:28:29 in arguably the second, third best conference
00:28:32 in the country.
00:28:33 So I do think Washington has a great shot.
00:28:35 I'm fired up for Texas because they won a statement game
00:28:40 against, not like a statement game,
00:28:42 but a statement win as far as how badly
00:28:44 they beat Oklahoma State.
00:28:46 'Cause I do feel like if it would've been close
00:28:47 based on their close games with Iowa State,
00:28:49 with TCU, then it was kind of like,
00:28:51 I mean, yeah, Texas beat Alabama,
00:28:52 but also the resume on the back half,
00:28:54 they're not like this, again, this big bad wolf
00:28:56 that's gonna go into the college football playoff.
00:28:58 - Their last two games, they scored,
00:29:00 I guess they scored 49 this past weekend,
00:29:02 but their last two games, they scored 50 points.
00:29:05 So they've made statements.
00:29:06 - Right, 'cause Quinn was hurt as well.
00:29:08 Everybody's like, "Quinn, you were just hurt.
00:29:09 "He's gonna come back."
00:29:10 And he did bounce back in a big way.
00:29:12 And I do think Texas has an unbelievable opportunity
00:29:15 to beat Washington, who's undefeated,
00:29:17 which is, we're in the college football playoff now.
00:29:19 Like, this is the best four teams.
00:29:21 But also, they go in, if it's Michigan,
00:29:24 whether it's a revenge game,
00:29:25 which I like to see against Alabama,
00:29:27 I think the stakes would be so high.
00:29:28 The hype train, the content, the trailers would be so high
00:29:32 for a Texas-Alabama rematch.
00:29:34 - The amount of times you'll see that game
00:29:37 played over and over and over again for that week.
00:29:39 - And what's awesome, too, is there's representation
00:29:41 in four out of the five Power Five conferences.
00:29:43 - Right. - Again, it sucks
00:29:44 if Florida State's not in it,
00:29:45 but you get the best from every conference that's in it.
00:29:48 And Alabama's on a nice heater right now.
00:29:51 A lot of excitement in Tuscaloosa.
00:29:55 - I'm just glad the committee did the right thing.
00:29:57 - Yeah, I just, it was so hard.
00:30:00 - I feel like this is the first time
00:30:01 they've actually said, okay, this is the four best,
00:30:04 not the four deserving.
00:30:05 - Right, which a lot of people are excited about
00:30:07 and happy about, but then there's a lot of people
00:30:09 who's really pissed off that,
00:30:10 hey, does the regular season not matter,
00:30:12 which is justified.
00:30:13 It just, it sucks.
00:30:14 At the end of the day, it's like, who would win?
00:30:16 It goes back to Saban last year.
00:30:18 Like, if you put 'em in, who'd be favored?
00:30:20 Who would Vegas favor?
00:30:21 If you have Alabama and Florida State favored right now
00:30:24 in a game, who's gonna be favored?
00:30:26 It's gonna be Alabama by probably double digits.
00:30:28 So--
00:30:29 - If Georgia's got 'em by 14.
00:30:30 - Yeah, if Georgia's got 'em by 14,
00:30:32 Alabama, it would be by double digits.
00:30:34 So for that, it's like those reasons is why Alabama's in
00:30:36 and it's the best four teams versus, you know,
00:30:39 the most deserving teams.
00:30:41 I'm fired up.
00:30:43 - Bet's been placed.
00:30:44 - You got it, what'd you put in?
00:30:45 - 1,500.
00:30:46 - What are the odds?
00:30:47 - 180.
00:30:48 - 180.
00:30:49 - Payouts like 4,200, 4,230.
00:30:51 - Glad you're in it, yeah.
00:30:55 - Let's go.
00:30:55 (laughing)
00:30:58 - Are you all right?
00:31:00 What was that?
00:31:00 - No, I'm good.
00:31:01 - What was that look?
00:31:02 - Just you in general, bro.
00:31:05 - Oh, usually you give a nice little,
00:31:07 you get a little laugh at the end,
00:31:08 like, to where we understand it's a joke,
00:31:10 but it doesn't feel like there's a joke.
00:31:11 - No, no, no, no, no, trust me, everything's fair.
00:31:13 - I got you.
00:31:14 - Everything's good right now.
00:31:14 - Yeah, listen, I've been public about it.
00:31:16 I do want you guys to go down.
00:31:17 - I know you've been public about it.
00:31:18 - Like, when Alabama got drawn, I was like,
00:31:20 oh, yeah, nowhere to go now.
00:31:22 Nowhere to go.
00:31:23 'Cause I was like, man, I hope it's not--
00:31:25 - I can't fucking wait, dude.
00:31:26 When we win, oh my God.
00:31:27 - 'Cause when Florida State was like,
00:31:30 when they were up for it, I was like, man,
00:31:31 we can't have them.
00:31:32 Like, guys, this is all hands on deck.
00:31:33 Like, you need Michigan to go through a,
00:31:36 you need them to fully earn this national title.
00:31:38 - Alabama, you beat Alabama,
00:31:39 and then you play Texas, you beat Texas.
00:31:41 Then there's no argument.
00:31:42 - There's no sleep against, sleep it on Washington.
00:31:44 - If Michigan wins this,
00:31:45 there's nothing else for you guys to say.
00:31:47 There's no asterisk on anything.
00:31:49 - The asterisk will be there,
00:31:50 but very much it'll be a hands-off handshake.
00:31:53 - I also have an overly direct take,
00:31:55 and it's that Garrett is a worse winning fan than I am.
00:31:58 - How so?
00:32:00 - How so?
00:32:03 - So to go along with Taylor's direct take,
00:32:06 the ugly that I had in my ugly list
00:32:08 was Garrett thinking he knew what losing really was.
00:32:12 - Can I explain a little bit?
00:32:13 - Yeah, you can explain.
00:32:15 You can explain.
00:32:15 - Like I told JP this morning,
00:32:17 'cause he said he was gonna bring it up.
00:32:19 After reading it and your response,
00:32:22 I was like seeing it how it came off,
00:32:25 but I think I left the most important word out
00:32:28 as the kid was like, "Mom, I'm not used to losing."
00:32:32 And so in my head, I'm like,
00:32:33 "This kid's gonna have a tough, tough life."
00:32:35 But I can see how it was taken from you,
00:32:40 but then you know how to stand on business regardless.
00:32:42 - Yeah, but your business, like, you know, that was,
00:32:44 you know, that was a ratio that you can't come back from.
00:32:48 - You see my other tweet?
00:32:50 (JP laughs)
00:32:51 - Which one? - Garrett has 400,000 followers.
00:32:52 - Probably. - It's like what a ratio.
00:32:53 - Probably so.
00:32:54 - What a scumbag. - Bully.
00:32:56 - That's a ratio you can't come back from.
00:32:57 Like Will's like approaching 400,000 followers.
00:33:00 - Will has so many people that ride for him too.
00:33:03 - So what you're saying. - So many people
00:33:05 that ride for you.
00:33:05 - So what you're saying. (laughs)
00:33:10 So what you're saying is when you're like,
00:33:11 "So here's what the tweet was for Garrett,"
00:33:13 and go follow the boy Garrett_GarrettHargis.
00:33:17 - Appreciate that. - It's a nice name, right?
00:33:18 - Yeah, appreciate that.
00:33:19 - So this tweet just overheard a Georgia student say,
00:33:22 "I'm not used to losing.
00:33:23 Kid has no idea what real life is like."
00:33:26 To which all the boys pretty much responded.
00:33:28 JP's like, "Hey, well, come to South Carolina.
00:33:31 Tennessee being down."
00:33:32 - I got the biggest stray of all time from JP saying,
00:33:35 "You have no idea what life is like."
00:33:36 And Taylor's like, "You have no idea what life is like."
00:33:39 - And then, and so I responded,
00:33:41 "This tweet is like a rich kid not getting the new iPhone."
00:33:44 And you're saying from your stance,
00:33:45 you're just saying it as,
00:33:47 the dialogue between him and his mom.
00:33:49 You weren't saying it as an Alabama fan
00:33:51 hearing a Georgia fan thinking this guy has no idea what real life is like.
00:33:53 - No, but afterwards I'm like,
00:33:55 "Oh my God, that sounds so terrible."
00:33:58 - Let's go back to this ratio real quick.
00:33:59 'Cause you did get 58 likes,
00:34:01 and you only got 104, Will.
00:34:03 - That's a ratio.
00:34:04 - But you have literally 100, 200 times more followers than him.
00:34:09 - And then you screenshot it,
00:34:11 and then put it out for the world to see
00:34:12 to get it to a bigger audience,
00:34:14 and then that's a ratio.
00:34:14 - Yeah.
00:34:15 - To get it to a bigger audience,
00:34:16 and then that's where the damage was.
00:34:17 - And he didn't even tag me.
00:34:18 - We're throwing flowers on the grave.
00:34:19 - He didn't even tag me.
00:34:20 Will screenshotted Cropp and he sub-tweeted me.
00:34:23 - Before we came to the show,
00:34:25 I went on Twitter,
00:34:27 and I saw Will screenshotting Dave and I's conversation,
00:34:31 and doesn't tag me or Dave.
00:34:32 I'm just like, "This dude."
00:34:33 - 'Cause Dave doesn't allow tags,
00:34:34 so I didn't want to tag one, not the other type thing.
00:34:36 - Yeah.
00:34:37 - He's just sub-tweeting.
00:34:37 - And then when I said random fan,
00:34:38 I didn't want to tip off that I knew who the fan was.
00:34:41 They had to figure it out themselves.
00:34:43 (laughing)
00:34:45 - Man, dude, if only your school was as good at football
00:34:47 as you are at Twitter.
00:34:49 - Yeah, we'd be undefeated.
00:34:50 - You guys would be at least making a bowl game.
00:34:53 Man, fun times.
00:34:54 You wanna talk about Sport Clips?
00:34:55 - Yeah, let's talk about Sport Clips.
00:34:56 - Go ahead, kid.
00:34:58 - Your hair may grow fast,
00:34:59 but after going to Sport Clips Haircuts,
00:35:01 you'll wish it grew even faster.
00:35:03 That's because Sport Clips has the best seats in hair,
00:35:06 and that may or may not be because they happen to be
00:35:09 right in front of TVs playing sports all day, every day.
00:35:12 Boys, that's right.
00:35:13 They play sports in front of you
00:35:15 while you're getting your hair cut.
00:35:16 We know that watching sports while getting a haircut
00:35:18 sure beats watching your reflection of getting a haircut,
00:35:21 which is why Sport Clips every day is clippers
00:35:23 and curve balls, high tops and Hail Marys,
00:35:25 and even waves and wickets,
00:35:27 if you're into that kind of thing.
00:35:28 At Sport Clips, you can check in with the pros and mens hair
00:35:31 and totally check out with pure, uninterrupted relaxation
00:35:34 and football.
00:35:35 So yeah, come watch an endless stream of sports on TV
00:35:38 while getting an awesome haircut.
00:35:40 Sport Clips, it is a game changer.
00:35:44 - Nice.
00:35:44 Do you wanna do our bad now?
00:35:46 Since we've got-
00:35:47 - The only other bad that I have outside of,
00:35:49 what'd I say, Michigan's reaction
00:35:51 was YouTube versus surviving barstool.
00:35:55 - Yeah.
00:35:56 - I thought that was-
00:35:57 I thought that was-
00:35:58 - That should be in the ugly.
00:35:59 - It is in the ugly and shit that gets you beat.
00:36:01 - Right.
00:36:02 - But-
00:36:03 - I'll just go through my bad real quick.
00:36:04 All right.
00:36:05 Chargers win versus the Patriots.
00:36:06 That thing is just, the Patriots are so dead
00:36:08 and the Chargers win by six points.
00:36:09 That's crazy.
00:36:10 Michigan's offense versus Iowa.
00:36:12 Chiefs losing to the Packers.
00:36:15 People saying mom in a conversation as opposed to my mom.
00:36:19 I don't like that.
00:36:21 - So that's a pet peeve.
00:36:22 - Yeah, it would be considered a pet peeve of mine,
00:36:25 but I'll give you an example.
00:36:27 I was in the shop today
00:36:29 and somebody didn't drive their new car in
00:36:31 and that person said, "Mom had to go to the airport."
00:36:35 And I was thinking, "That's not our mom.
00:36:37 "It's your mom, so say my mom."
00:36:39 You know what I'm saying?
00:36:41 - Like I understand.
00:36:42 - If you were saying my-
00:36:43 - I understand.
00:36:44 - If Bill was coming to town,
00:36:44 it's like, "Oh, my dad's coming in town."
00:36:45 You wouldn't say to me, "Dad's coming into town."
00:36:47 It's not our dad.
00:36:48 - You were breastfeeding, so you're like 11 type vibes.
00:36:51 - All right.
00:36:53 - Well, I was gonna ask-
00:36:54 - Yeah, listen, that's a fucking wild-
00:36:56 - I mean, that's-
00:36:57 - What is that movie where they fucking curve the bullets?
00:37:00 That's one of those shots right there.
00:37:02 - I mean, this is-
00:37:02 - Super unneeded.
00:37:03 - This is not taking a shot at anyone in the shop.
00:37:06 This is just people who say mom
00:37:07 or they'll be like, "Yeah, mom's out getting dinner for me."
00:37:11 And it's weird to me.
00:37:13 If I'm with you-
00:37:14 - It sounds British to me.
00:37:15 Sounds like it's-
00:37:16 - Mom's out getting dinner.
00:37:17 I guess the only way that places
00:37:18 if you're at their house
00:37:19 and you're wondering where dinner is or something.
00:37:20 - Yeah.
00:37:21 - You're hanging out with Gary
00:37:22 and Gary's like, "Mom's going out."
00:37:23 - That one was a tough example,
00:37:24 but I see where you're going.
00:37:25 I see where you're going.
00:37:26 - Using mom instead of mom.
00:37:27 - Right.
00:37:28 - Well, I was gonna ask if it was a Southerner,
00:37:30 but we know that it's not.
00:37:32 - No, no, no.
00:37:32 - Because I hear that's done a lot.
00:37:34 Like they'll be like, "Yeah, daddy or mom."
00:37:36 - Daddy's tough.
00:37:37 - Country ass people say it.
00:37:38 - Yeah.
00:37:39 - Did it bother you when Ryan was doing it
00:37:40 during the interview?
00:37:41 - No, no.
00:37:45 The reason why it didn't is 'cause when he said it,
00:37:49 I literally thought to myself,
00:37:51 "Dale Earnhardt said the same thing.
00:37:53 That must be a NASCAR thing."
00:37:54 Like when dad's out there racing,
00:37:56 I'm like, "Yeah, fuck yeah."
00:37:58 To me, that sounded cool.
00:37:59 And it might be a difference between dad and mom too.
00:38:01 - Or just how much you like the other.
00:38:03 - No, 'cause I like the other person more.
00:38:05 The person that says mom more than Ryan.
00:38:07 I don't even know Ryan.
00:38:08 - These guys are like a professional status.
00:38:10 So maybe you're just like accepting it.
00:38:11 You're like, "Oh, that's pretty bad."
00:38:12 - Yeah, I'm just sucking them off.
00:38:14 - Yeah.
00:38:15 - No, I just think that when you put like a Southern,
00:38:19 like Southern accent, blue collar type shit,
00:38:23 when you have that vibe about you,
00:38:25 that shit just sounds cooler.
00:38:26 Yeah, you can say things that I couldn't say with this voice.
00:38:29 It wouldn't sound near as cool as them saying it.
00:38:30 And then my last one is Iowa being a field goal territory
00:38:33 twice and getting zero points.
00:38:35 Turnovers, fourth down, that type of thing.
00:38:38 But that's the bad bit.
00:38:39 - My, I had ugly in there that lined up with yours.
00:38:41 I think it was the, yeah, Patriots.
00:38:44 Six to nothing, what a wild score
00:38:45 against the Chargers too.
00:38:47 And that's three consecutive games
00:38:48 that the Patriots have held teams under 10 points and lost.
00:38:51 I think that staff is done.
00:38:53 I think the staff goes.
00:38:54 Yeah.
00:38:57 - You see PFT, his take, doing a trade,
00:39:01 a rable for Belichick?
00:39:05 - I don't, I think that would be good.
00:39:07 I think that that would be good for the Patriots.
00:39:09 I don't think there's upside for the Titans.
00:39:11 - Yeah, I saw you throw a little we in there though,
00:39:13 that fired me up.
00:39:14 We, the Patriots, the Titans.
00:39:15 - Y'all saw that video of Belichick, he gets down.
00:39:19 - Coming out of that, yeah.
00:39:20 - I'm just saying based on the resume of,
00:39:22 so the gossip out there is that he would be lined up
00:39:26 and set to go, like it's gonna be a breakup
00:39:28 in the off season.
00:39:29 And him and the staff or him would go out to LA,
00:39:32 the Chargers.
00:39:34 'Cause there's an established quarterback
00:39:36 and that's where Belichick, you know,
00:39:37 obviously flourishes more with not developing a quarterback
00:39:40 but having somebody that's already ready to roll
00:39:43 and then fixing culture, fixing defense.
00:39:45 And it's a great spot to go to retire.
00:39:48 Like you're, you know, you're out in California.
00:39:50 - Yeah.
00:39:50 - Where money's not an issue for Billy B.
00:39:52 So, that's the gossip.
00:39:56 - I think it goes to adapt or die, that phrase.
00:40:02 And I just feel like Bill, I don't think he's gonna be
00:40:05 in a place that's gonna have the type of patience
00:40:07 that the Patriots, where he's won six Super Bowls,
00:40:10 is gonna be able to have to allow him to implement
00:40:14 his type of philosophies and all that stuff.
00:40:17 It's too fast, like I think the game's changed too much.
00:40:19 I think the players are different.
00:40:21 Like in the '90s, early 2000s, I feel like it was like,
00:40:25 there was an obvious coach and then player.
00:40:27 And if you can see the level of,
00:40:30 I don't know if it's respect,
00:40:31 but I'll use respect for lack of a better word,
00:40:33 of players kind of being more equal to the coach now,
00:40:35 to where I don't think it'd be received as well
00:40:37 from these younger guys coming in.
00:40:39 So I think when Bill leaves, like that's the end of Bill.
00:40:44 - So you think he'll retire?
00:40:45 - Yeah, I think--
00:40:46 - I think he's out to get the winning record.
00:40:48 Well, who has it?
00:40:49 Yeah, Don Shula, I think he's--
00:40:51 - How many games is he out?
00:40:53 - Yeah, so he'd need to put in a few more seasons.
00:40:58 And like he'd need to put in a few seasons with a good team.
00:41:02 I don't think you get that with the Patriots.
00:41:04 - Yeah.
00:41:06 - Yeah, I don't think you get that with the Patriots.
00:41:08 - I love how the first two are gentlemen in suits and hats.
00:41:11 And then the third photo is Bill in sweat
00:41:14 and a hoodie with a towel wrapped around him,
00:41:16 like a sauna hoodie or a sauna towel.
00:41:19 Yeah, I mean, I could see that for sure.
00:41:21 I just, it's not gonna be with the Patriots.
00:41:24 And if he goes to the Chargers, like they'll win more games.
00:41:27 - Yeah. - He's a better coach
00:41:28 than Staley.
00:41:30 - Yeah, and then again, defense culture.
00:41:31 I think those are the things that the Chargers are missing.
00:41:34 - Yeah, the game thing is interesting, you just said.
00:41:35 - No, I'm not saying their culture sucks
00:41:37 'cause I do feel like everybody's vibes were up
00:41:39 when we were there in training camp and everything else.
00:41:41 But again, like when you're losing
00:41:42 the way the Chargers lose and you're the most,
00:41:45 you've spent the most on defense and the pieces there
00:41:47 and you just can't put it together,
00:41:49 people start to figure out when you're losing,
00:41:51 it's coaches are trying to blame players,
00:41:53 players are trying to blame coaches,
00:41:54 everybody's basically trying to cover their own ass.
00:41:56 - CYA.
00:41:57 - CYA.
00:41:58 - 28. - 28.
00:42:01 So yeah, he would need to put in a few more seasons.
00:42:04 - Yeah. - I think he'll, I mean,
00:42:05 I just think it's in his blood to coach football.
00:42:07 - Yeah.
00:42:08 - But the other bet I had was, yeah,
00:42:09 going back to Barstool versus YouTube.
00:42:11 If people out there right now who are into
00:42:14 the surviving Barstool, Barstool survivor,
00:42:17 they dropped last week, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
00:42:19 phenomenal episode, seven figures worth of production
00:42:22 put into this thing.
00:42:23 And YouTube came up later in the week
00:42:26 with a warning or an age restriction thing
00:42:28 on the first episode, which was very suspect
00:42:31 in Barstool's eyes because there really wasn't
00:42:33 a whole lot in the first one, outside of Rico yelling.
00:42:36 And then the second one, they did it again,
00:42:38 but that's where it was like,
00:42:39 I wanna say it was the Kirk Minahan,
00:42:41 blow up your house, Jeff Delo,
00:42:42 and they really warned about that.
00:42:44 And then they'd be on the verge of getting,
00:42:47 is it the third strike?
00:42:48 A third strike on YouTube, which the way YouTube structure
00:42:52 and the way that they are set up
00:42:55 is no one really knows how you gain strikes.
00:42:58 Like if it's, there's no like cut black and white way
00:43:00 of gaining a strike.
00:43:01 They almost subjectively just say, hey, you got a strike.
00:43:04 There's no way to fight back against it
00:43:05 or throw a challenge flag or like kind of like wait
00:43:08 till everything gets reviewed.
00:43:09 It's you get a strike.
00:43:10 And if there's three strikes on YouTube,
00:43:12 your channel is gone and permanently in the gulag forever.
00:43:16 You can't get it back.
00:43:18 So clearly as big as Barstool is on YouTube,
00:43:21 they had to make a decision, either edit and censor it
00:43:24 the way YouTube wants to censor or put it behind barstool.tv.
00:43:29 They've chose to go behind a paywall with barstool.tv,
00:43:32 charging people 9.99.
00:43:34 There's a lot of arguments about that.
00:43:36 Should he be charging?
00:43:38 To me, the example and analogy that I would use is,
00:43:41 it's like to me, it's like when Andrew Schultz
00:43:45 or Andrew Schultz went out on Netflix
00:43:47 or he was gonna go to Netflix with a special.
00:43:49 Netflix, the way that they're now adapting with comedians,
00:43:52 but at one point in time,
00:43:54 they were wanting to censor jokes,
00:43:56 which comedians absolutely hate.
00:43:57 So comedians would come out of pocket,
00:43:59 put a lot of money into their production
00:44:01 to produce their own special and sell it on their website.
00:44:04 A lot of people get behind that and help out and promote
00:44:07 and buy into that with the comedian
00:44:10 because it's like the small guy versus mainstream media.
00:44:13 To me, it's the same situation.
00:44:14 YouTube is wanting to censor this product
00:44:17 that Barstool has with Surviving Barstool,
00:44:18 which honestly, if you watch it,
00:44:20 you understand all the context with absolutely everything.
00:44:23 It's a great survivor reality TV show.
00:44:26 And so YouTube wants to censor it.
00:44:28 Dave's not bending the knee.
00:44:30 Hey, we're gonna put a bind of paywall to help pay for,
00:44:32 recoup, whatever, the seven figures
00:44:34 that went into all this production,
00:44:36 behind the scenes and everything else.
00:44:38 So you can pay for it, 9.99, barstool.tv.
00:44:42 And the episodes are four, five, and six come out.
00:44:46 They came out yesterday as you're listening now.
00:44:47 They came out yesterday, tonight, and tomorrow.
00:44:49 And then seven, eight, nine will be coming out
00:44:51 next Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
00:44:52 You'll see them all come out in succession.
00:44:54 And then after that, the weeks following,
00:44:56 you will get it for free on barstool.tv.
00:45:00 If you're like me, I'm paying because I hate the FOMO aspect
00:45:04 and I hate knowing what happens
00:45:05 and people talking about it online
00:45:07 because it will be, clips will be coming out,
00:45:09 it will be talked about.
00:45:10 So that's kind of the entire conversation about it.
00:45:14 It's like Dave went hardcore.
00:45:15 Hey, we're not doing this.
00:45:16 We're going this way.
00:45:17 But if you're looking at it, it's legit.
00:45:20 YouTube wanted to censor, Barstool doesn't want to.
00:45:22 They're now going behind their own website to stream it.
00:45:25 You have to pay for it.
00:45:26 I know that pisses people off.
00:45:27 This wasn't a bait and switch by Dave or Barstool.
00:45:30 Those were all the facts of it.
00:45:32 And so yeah, if you're a supporter,
00:45:34 I think what sucks is there were a lot of people texting me
00:45:37 that weren't in the Barstool fandom or anything else.
00:45:40 They just loved the reality show.
00:45:42 And like, hey, I don't know what's going on
00:45:43 with these other characters, but I'm so bought in
00:45:45 because of how valuable all the production was.
00:45:47 - Right.
00:45:48 Has there ever been a situation that you guys know
00:45:51 of where Dave bait and switched fans?
00:45:53 - No.
00:45:54 - And so like, yeah, that argument to me
00:45:56 seems so wildly out of left field.
00:45:59 - It's, you know how the mind shift.
00:46:00 - Or the boys brand, right?
00:46:01 Like Barstool has always been for the people.
00:46:03 It's like, we're the community and we're helping.
00:46:06 - For the common man by the common man.
00:46:07 - Yeah.
00:46:08 And so, but the thing that obviously can be a disconnect
00:46:11 is the different tax brackets, obviously,
00:46:14 and people being upset about $10.
00:46:15 Like I went to Starbucks today
00:46:17 and I spent $10 before a tip on two cups of coffee.
00:46:20 Literally, and I know that was like the analogy
00:46:22 people are using that, that literally happened to me today.
00:46:24 And so that could be a place where I'm a little disconnected
00:46:28 but, well, it's like, is $10 a big deal to be paying?
00:46:32 - What was your guys' thought on the whole thing
00:46:34 with the Barstool and you?
00:46:35 'Cause I had a couple of different thoughts.
00:46:36 It's like, I see that if that's how Dave
00:46:39 would have started bringing it
00:46:41 because the backlash from it is like, okay,
00:46:43 then he did it, I might be in the scumbag.
00:46:45 'Cause I do think the framework was essentially to get to,
00:46:48 hey, big guys wanting to censor us, we're not censoring.
00:46:52 We think the war cry is gonna come behind us.
00:46:55 There was a lot of all pissed off people,
00:46:57 like you show us three free episodes, we're bought in.
00:47:00 It's bullshit that you're now putting it behind a paywall.
00:47:02 So I see like pros and cons of both.
00:47:04 Me, I wanted, like I tweeted, I wanted a kids' bop version.
00:47:06 To me, it's like, do the edits, play by YouTube's rules
00:47:09 and make it extremely known that it is a edited down version
00:47:13 and then you got Dave's version,
00:47:15 which is like Taylor Swift, Taylor's version.
00:47:17 You put Dave's version behind somewhere else
00:47:18 if people wanna go do that.
00:47:20 And to me, because what you lose out on with YouTube
00:47:22 is the massive audience.
00:47:23 Like you get to go home, put on the YouTube app
00:47:26 and it's right there in front of you.
00:47:28 And you're like watching it like TV.
00:47:30 And the people who were texting me are the kinds where,
00:47:33 every time you have to click and do something more,
00:47:35 like law of numbers, you lose like 10% of people.
00:47:37 - The more steps, the worse it gets.
00:47:39 - Yeah, so that's, to me, that's what sucks
00:47:41 because I know how much time and effort
00:47:43 by everybody got put into this.
00:47:45 You want the exposure to be there for those people
00:47:47 from the product that was created because in perpetuity,
00:47:50 like the views are just gonna keep going up
00:47:52 because of how good of a show it actually is.
00:47:54 So I think it's just harder if people are looking for it,
00:47:57 it's barstool.tv, support the boys.
00:47:59 I truly think it's worth it.
00:48:01 But again, I know everybody kind of sees it differently.
00:48:04 - The shitty, yeah, the shitty,
00:48:05 I'll let you go in a second.
00:48:07 But the shitty thing for you is
00:48:08 you were having such a good showing.
00:48:10 Those first three episodes,
00:48:11 you were having such a good showing
00:48:12 and you just want as many eyes on that as possible.
00:48:14 - Yeah, I mean--
00:48:15 - Selfishly, for you and for us.
00:48:17 - Yeah, selfishly, even all the talent
00:48:19 and all the contestants,
00:48:20 like the things that are going to be coming,
00:48:22 storyline-wise, I think are all time.
00:48:25 And it does, it sucks personally,
00:48:27 it sucks team-wise with the surviving cast,
00:48:30 it sucks for the production crew behind it
00:48:32 that put it all together,
00:48:32 that you kind of just have to let Dave
00:48:35 kind of lead this thing where he wants to lead it.
00:48:37 But yeah.
00:48:38 - I like the way you said, though,
00:48:39 having the kids bop version on YouTube,
00:48:41 that way more eyes get on it
00:48:42 and you're able to monetize that way.
00:48:44 - It's like dumb it down
00:48:45 'til you even make fun of it. - And then forceful
00:48:46 at the door type of vibe, yeah.
00:48:47 Like you make fun of the production,
00:48:49 you said unfortunate editing,
00:48:50 I'm sure the editing for that
00:48:51 would be just absolutely shitty to do that in three days.
00:48:53 - Yeah, that's the problem,
00:48:54 is could you really edit all of those things
00:48:57 and put it out on YouTube while it's still relevant?
00:49:00 - Which is a fair point.
00:49:01 - As many employees as they have, you could give--
00:49:03 - If you're not gonna get off schedule
00:49:05 with wanting to get it out the next Monday,
00:49:07 Tuesday, Wednesday.
00:49:08 'Cause what sucks is you gotta take it down.
00:49:09 From my understanding, YouTube said you have two
00:49:12 or three hours to take this down
00:49:15 or something was gonna happen.
00:49:16 And your concern is the strike
00:49:18 because you don't know how it comes to you.
00:49:19 They don't actually say you're gonna get a strike.
00:49:21 You're not talking with anybody
00:49:22 to where YouTube kinda tells you it just happens,
00:49:24 it's gone, there's no reversing it.
00:49:27 So it's a tough spot to be in.
00:49:30 - I just don't know why YouTube would go about it that way.
00:49:34 If they don't just, do they have,
00:49:36 they just heard something and they're like,
00:49:37 "Okay, we're gonna censor this now."
00:49:39 - It's like there's videos of the war on YouTube.
00:49:41 - Right.
00:49:42 - It is crazy shit on YouTube.
00:49:44 - ISIS was on YouTube.
00:49:45 - Right.
00:49:46 - Yeah.
00:49:47 - And they didn't take 'em down?
00:49:47 - Right.
00:49:48 - But like, Barstool, they're like literally telling Dave,
00:49:50 like, "Hey, if you don't do this, we're gonna do X, Y, and Z."
00:49:52 It's like the last thing you wanna do to Dave
00:49:53 is give him an ultimatum, like just work with him.
00:49:55 'Cause I'm sure if they came in a more gentle way,
00:49:57 things would have been worked out so much easier
00:50:00 where he probably would have came to this conclusion--
00:50:01 - Like a rational conversation, yeah.
00:50:02 - As opposed to having two hours to be like,
00:50:03 "No, fuck you, we're not doing that."
00:50:05 And then this whole thing has to happen.
00:50:07 So, but $10.
00:50:10 How do we feel about that?
00:50:12 - Your perspective when it was all going down,
00:50:13 'cause we weren't in the office.
00:50:15 - Yeah, I mean, I would pay that.
00:50:16 It's amazing content.
00:50:17 Even if I wasn't like friendly with you guys
00:50:19 and I didn't know you guys, I would still buy it
00:50:21 'cause of how, like, I guess I have like a stoolie,
00:50:24 kind of just bought into it that way.
00:50:26 But I also think on YouTube's end, it's just,
00:50:28 it's so soft for them to just be like,
00:50:31 "No, you can't put this out there."
00:50:33 Because that first episode had, what, 800,000 views?
00:50:37 - Yeah, I mean, it was gonna be nuts, man.
00:50:39 - So the amount of like,
00:50:41 Dave's gotta look at it in a business sense.
00:50:42 Like he's gotta make the money back from the revenue
00:50:44 that he's missing out on YouTube.
00:50:45 And like $10 for six more episodes is like, what?
00:50:49 Like $2 an episode?
00:50:51 It's not even that, not that expensive in my opinion.
00:50:53 Like you can, people can--
00:50:55 - And then also like when that gets removed from YouTube,
00:50:58 there's also kind of like a make right
00:51:00 or a renegotiation with Factor who spends all the money
00:51:03 because you're paying for seven figure views per episode.
00:51:06 You know it's gonna be there.
00:51:08 This one is more of like a wait and see
00:51:09 how many people show up.
00:51:10 Because again, the just, I hate it for the people
00:51:13 who were coming in that weren't familiar
00:51:15 'cause they might not even be listening to this
00:51:16 and fully understand that it's not,
00:51:17 why it's not there anymore.
00:51:19 But you make people, the more hoops you make them
00:51:20 jump through, the more of the audience you lose.
00:51:22 - Right.
00:51:23 - So it's kind of like a renegotiation.
00:51:24 Yeah, it's kind of like a renegotiation and everything
00:51:26 that probably conversations that have to take place
00:51:28 with Factor to either make right
00:51:30 or figure out what the numbers say after, I'm not sure.
00:51:35 - Yeah.
00:51:35 - Like Jack came in after the first one was like,
00:51:37 dude it was 90 minutes long.
00:51:38 I didn't even know it was that long.
00:51:40 Like it just kind of flew by because of how,
00:51:41 you know, how much they pulled you into the story.
00:51:44 - Yeah, they did such a great job with that dude.
00:51:46 - And obviously we talked about the $10.
00:51:48 I don't think no one is gonna struggle
00:51:51 purchasing something for $10.
00:51:53 It's a principle by those.
00:51:54 So for the people who are upset about it,
00:51:57 I think that at the end, they don't wanna spend $10
00:52:00 because at some point it was free
00:52:02 and some people just have an impossible time
00:52:06 getting over that fact.
00:52:07 And it sucks because even like our roommate
00:52:10 or my roommate, Kyle, he's not like a huge bar stool guy,
00:52:14 but he's like knows some of the stuff, the ins and outs.
00:52:17 And he watched that first episode
00:52:18 and he was fired up about it.
00:52:20 And then the next day all this comes out.
00:52:23 And so he makes plenty of money and he can afford $10,
00:52:26 but he's not gonna buy it out of principle
00:52:29 because he's like.
00:52:30 - Right, 'cause the downside is like,
00:52:31 I mean, that was a sweet episode, but I'm not gonna,
00:52:34 like, yeah, if it's not available to me right now,
00:52:36 right away to where I can easily find it.
00:52:38 It's just not.
00:52:39 - I think it's literally, it's not even the $10.
00:52:40 It's having to go in and like put a card in.
00:52:42 Like, even though that sounds so foolish and childish,
00:52:45 but it is just a principle buy.
00:52:48 So hopefully they get a bunch of people
00:52:50 that are gonna purchase that.
00:52:51 And they said two weeks after the initial finale,
00:52:56 they're gonna release all the episodes for free.
00:52:59 - Yeah, so you're gonna get like,
00:53:00 factor the people that are in the most risk right now.
00:53:03 They're gonna get their views one way or another.
00:53:05 - Well, I think behind Barstool TV
00:53:06 is people gotta go to barstool.tv to do it.
00:53:09 Which to me, that's the exposure part
00:53:10 of YouTube you miss out on.
00:53:12 Maybe in two weeks too, like this is a time
00:53:14 where you think about having some edit that out
00:53:16 so that it can go on YouTube.
00:53:17 'Cause again, like those, that's for like an audience
00:53:19 that is not nearly as, you know, bought into all of the,
00:53:23 all the things that happen in the Barstool universe
00:53:26 with every personality that's there.
00:53:27 That's to me, that's where the Stoolies
00:53:29 kind of eat that stuff up because you see
00:53:31 a lot of like rivalries collide throughout the entire show.
00:53:34 - And you got, I mean, Dave has the reach.
00:53:36 They have so many people.
00:53:38 It's like on Barstool, not only Dave,
00:53:40 but also the employees of Dave to do the work.
00:53:44 To like, be like, all right,
00:53:44 you guys gotta go watch the show.
00:53:45 Like put it on Twitter, put it on Instagram
00:53:48 so that people are driven to Barstool.tv.
00:53:51 It's on all of us, team.
00:53:52 - 'Cause it's like, do you think about
00:53:54 the Rumble conversation?
00:53:56 Do you think about the X conversation?
00:53:58 If it's, say it was like a thing with Twitter and Elon,
00:54:00 then the experience of watching it's not the same
00:54:02 'cause you're just gonna be consuming it on,
00:54:04 you know, your phone or an iPad or something like that.
00:54:07 - What's the deal with Rumble?
00:54:08 Are they the same thing as YouTube?
00:54:10 - Yeah, basically that would have been the, yeah.
00:54:12 Rumble's trying to be a competitor of YouTube essentially.
00:54:15 - I mean.
00:54:16 - But you'd almost assume Rumble would want Barstool
00:54:18 to move all of their stuff to Rumble
00:54:20 versus just the one show.
00:54:22 - Yeah, I don't think that'd be a good move for Barstool.
00:54:26 - But in the meantime, until all these episodes come out,

00:55:38 - Game Time, that would be awesome.
00:55:41 If the Texans and the Titans played every year
00:55:44 for the first game was to decide
00:55:45 who gets to wear 'em the next game.
00:55:47 - Yeah, I think that would be so fun.
00:55:49 - That would be sick.
00:55:50 In a couple of years.
00:55:52 In a couple of years, we gotta get back on track.
00:55:54 We gotta do BOT with the Titans.
00:55:55 - Yeah, the boys do.
00:55:56 Tough loss, that was a tough loss.
00:55:58 Tough overtime loss.
00:55:59 - Yeah, did you have any ugly?
00:56:01 'Cause we're still on it.
00:56:03 We're 50 minutes into this episode,
00:56:04 we're almost done with good, bad, ugly.
00:56:05 - No, so my ugly was, I said it in line with your bad,
00:56:10 which is the Patriots losing six to nothing,
00:56:12 three straight under 10 points, and then Garrett thinking
00:56:14 he knows what losing feels like, and we got to cover that.
00:56:17 So I'm solid.
00:56:18 - That was a crazy game by Garrett.
00:56:19 - I'm solid, what's your ugly?
00:56:21 - My ugly is the Chains guy getting his leg broken
00:56:23 in that Saints game.
00:56:24 - Oh.
00:56:25 - Oh, that was insane.
00:56:27 - Easy, man.
00:56:28 - Ugly.
00:56:29 - You think I gotta pull it up?
00:56:30 - Yeah, pull it up.
00:56:31 Ugly, this is more just 'cause I feel bad,
00:56:33 Georgia being out of the playoffs,
00:56:34 and Florida State 13 and 0, and they're out.
00:56:36 Here's one for the world.
00:56:38 NATO says prepare for bad news when it comes to war.
00:56:42 That's not good, that's probably in the ugly category.
00:56:44 - Oh, wait, what's the deal?
00:56:45 - Yeah, I looked at it a little bit.
00:56:47 They're referring to the war in Ukraine,
00:56:50 and how that needs to get figured out before,
00:56:52 'cause if Ukraine starts to fall,
00:56:54 then we're looking at WWE 3.
00:56:57 - Really?
00:56:58 - Yeah.
00:56:59 - I saw a warship was, a US warship,
00:57:01 not even a warship, it was like commercial, but.
00:57:04 - Look at that, dude, look at this guy's leg.
00:57:07 - Oh, my leg.
00:57:08 - Oh my God.
00:57:09 - My guy's is so ugly.
00:57:10 - And you can kind of hear it,
00:57:10 there's a couple of different clips
00:57:12 where you can hear the guy screaming in agony,
00:57:15 but that's as ugly as it gets.
00:57:16 - Oh, that sucks, man.
00:57:17 - The thing's just bent into the side, dude, oh.
00:57:21 - You paid enough for that.
00:57:22 - No. - No.
00:57:23 - And he was just going, like,
00:57:24 he's hype probably telling his family, like.
00:57:26 - Do we know if that gets covered?
00:57:28 - Huh?
00:57:29 - Ask Dean Blandino.
00:57:30 - If what?
00:57:31 - Do we know if that gets covered for him?
00:57:32 Like, you'd almost want the NFL to come out
00:57:34 and say we're gonna take care of this.
00:57:35 - Yeah, I mean, Alvin Kamara should pay for it, right?
00:57:39 But yeah, what were you gonna say about the--
00:57:41 - It was like we had a ship that,
00:57:43 I forget which country,
00:57:44 but a country fired some missiles at it.
00:57:47 Obviously, we intercepted the missiles.
00:57:49 But that happened, like, I wanna say it was--
00:57:51 - It was a child's play.
00:57:52 - Maybe, like, I don't wanna actually say what country it was
00:57:55 'cause I might just butcher it altogether.
00:57:58 But that happened either this morning or yesterday.
00:58:01 And that was apparently a big deal.
00:58:03 - Have you seen all these conspiracy theories?
00:58:05 Like, my algorithm on Instagram's asking Alexa
00:58:08 when World War III is gonna start.
00:58:10 The last one was November 25th.
00:58:12 And legit, November 25th, I was like,
00:58:14 oh, 'cause it's today, today, and it did start.
00:58:16 But the next one is March 14th,
00:58:18 when China invades the United States.
00:58:21 - Probably they invade Taiwan.
00:58:22 - What's that?
00:58:23 - They'll probably invade Taiwan,
00:58:24 which would make us have to get in war with China.
00:58:27 - Are we a part of NATO?
00:58:29 'Cause I know 45 was trying to dip.
00:58:30 Did he ever dip?
00:58:31 - No, I don't think he ever dipped.
00:58:33 - Let's get political, boys.
00:58:35 - Let's get in the war room.
00:58:36 - Yeah.
00:58:37 - Put my wrist background and throw it in there.
00:58:39 - This is my last ugly, this is a personal one,
00:58:42 is my kids turning my new cold tub into a potion.
00:58:45 I was watching the games yesterday, sitting on my couch,
00:58:50 and my kid's like, "Daddy, come look what we made."
00:58:52 And I was like, all right.
00:58:53 So I walked outside and I see my cold tub,
00:58:55 my outdoor cold tub lid was open.
00:58:58 And I see dirt everywhere.
00:59:00 And I'm like, "Oh, what'd y'all make?"
00:59:02 Like, we made a potion.
00:59:04 And I look at it, dude, I have a picture of it.
00:59:05 I'll send it for people who watch it on YouTube,
00:59:07 but I was tight.
00:59:10 Leaves, rocks.
00:59:13 - How'd you handle it?
00:59:15 - I just took a deep breath.
00:59:16 - When you saw it, you reach over, you look at it?
00:59:19 - I looked at it, I looked in the thing, I go,
00:59:21 "Guys, this stuff is important, Daddy.
00:59:26 "We can't do this 'cause you could break it."
00:59:29 And then I had to explain why it would break it.
00:59:31 And I was like, and I literally walked around the corner
00:59:33 and put my hands on my knees.
00:59:35 And I was like, "Yes, it was low-key a defeating day for me.
00:59:38 "It was a tough one for me."
00:59:39 And I was just like, looking at the ground like,
00:59:42 "God damn it, dude."
00:59:44 And I walked back, I was like,
00:59:45 "All right, guys, let's start cleaning it up."
00:59:46 And then they started complaining
00:59:48 about how cold the water was.
00:59:49 And I was like the grandpa from "Holes,"
00:59:50 it's too damn bad, just letting them do their thing.
00:59:53 - You should've made them drink the potion.
00:59:55 - No, my daughter's been making it.
00:59:57 - You made it, let's see if it works.
00:59:58 - You know that soda brand called Olipop,
01:00:00 have you heard of them?
01:00:02 My kids are obsessed with that.
01:00:03 My daughter makes Olipop soup,
01:00:05 she basically just puts a can into a bowl
01:00:08 and then adds different ingredients,
01:00:09 whether it be fruit or different things,
01:00:11 and she just eats it like soup.
01:00:13 So they're all in the potions and all that right now.
01:00:16 And it's on me as a father.
01:00:19 It got fixed, everything's clean,
01:00:20 nothing got in the filter, the thing was off actually.
01:00:22 It was the best case and a worst case scenario.
01:00:24 So we got it taken care of,
01:00:25 but that is the shit that gets you beat.
01:00:27 - Yeah, it's the shit that gets you beat.
01:00:29 It falls in line with the definition.
01:00:30 - And you can't resent your kids the rest of the day.
01:00:32 I had a hard time putting them to bed last night.
01:00:34 (laughing)
01:00:35 I had a hard time with them.
01:00:36 My daughter, my oldest, is having a hard time going to sleep.
01:00:39 I did five things.
01:00:40 - You're like, let's read a story and you just make it up
01:00:42 about how these girls, they wanna make a potion,
01:00:43 but it's in the wrong--
01:00:44 - These bad kids ruined one of daddy's things
01:00:46 and they had to leave forever and that was unfortunate.
01:00:49 - This daddy hurt them.
01:00:51 - Those kids later fell down the stairs.
01:00:54 It's just a bit of a deal, man.
01:00:55 - You see how good of a dad I am.
01:00:56 I don't do those things to you,
01:00:57 but just keep in mind how it could be.
01:00:59 - It's like those videos where you see the dogs,
01:01:03 like they think like a toy dog in front of a dog
01:01:06 and they go eat the food
01:01:08 and they beat the shit out of the dog
01:01:08 and the dog's like, "Yo, I'm not gonna do that."
01:01:11 (laughing)
01:01:13 It's fucking hilarious.
01:01:15 'Cause the dogs are legit like, "Oh my God."
01:01:17 - Yeah.
01:01:18 - All right.
01:01:19 - We kick it off, Ryan Blaney?
01:01:20 - No, we gotta do Twisted Question.
01:01:22 - Twisted Question.
01:01:23 - Another opportunity for Mitch.
01:01:25 I think he's O for on the year.
01:01:27 - That's all right.
01:01:28 - It's okay.
01:01:28 - You be OT.
01:01:29 - You really help with the confidence going in each time.
01:01:32 - The question is brought to you by Twisted Tea,
01:01:34 the smoothest hard iced tea out there,
01:01:35 perfect for pool parties, college game days.
01:01:37 Keep it twisted with Twisted Tea.
01:01:39 Grab a refreshing Twisted Tea today.
01:01:42 Mitch Carson.
01:01:42 - The king of alcoholic drinks.
01:01:44 - Yeah.
01:01:45 Before we get into Twisted,
01:01:46 actually we'll do it after.
01:01:47 Who Twisted Question?
01:01:48 - All right, this Twisted Question comes from JP.
01:01:52 If the aliens were to invade Earth,
01:01:55 which U.S. or which person in the world
01:01:58 would you wanna send to greet them?
01:01:59 - The Rock.
01:02:02 - Oh, I don't know.
01:02:03 Yeah, why the Rock?
01:02:04 - Just a good representation of man.
01:02:06 Like hopefully the aliens are a little scrawny
01:02:08 or hopefully they just have their gadgets
01:02:09 and they see the Rock.
01:02:10 They're like, yo, goddamn.
01:02:12 - Who are you sending, JP?
01:02:13 - Elon Musk.
01:02:14 - Yeah, Elon's definitely on the list.
01:02:18 - Yeah, you gotta throw Elon in there.
01:02:19 I feel like if anybody's close to speaking the language,
01:02:21 he probably knows something.
01:02:22 He's got some of that tism.
01:02:23 - I would put Chris Hemsworth up there over the Rock.
01:02:26 - Really, why?
01:02:27 - Everybody's cooler with accent.
01:02:29 - True.
01:02:31 - But--
01:02:32 - Let Donald Trump go, dude.
01:02:34 Let 45 go, give a firm handshake.
01:02:36 - Easy.
01:02:37 - Bring him in.
01:02:39 You guys be doing a lot of great things up there.
01:02:41 Bring him into your world and just let Trump negotiate.
01:02:46 Yeah, hope we live to fight another day.
01:02:49 Who'd you say, Garrett?
01:02:51 - Dennis Rodman.
01:02:53 - That'd be a great one.
01:02:54 That's kind of like an alien.
01:02:55 - Probably good contact.
01:02:56 - Just be like, hey, we're not so different, you and I.
01:02:58 - Yeah, for sure.
01:03:00 - Okay, I like that.
01:03:02 Jack, who do you got?
01:03:03 - I'm thinking we're using a wild card.
01:03:04 Someone that we can risk losing,
01:03:06 but also it shows what not only American culture's like,
01:03:10 but the US, so I'm sitting Joey Chestnut.
01:03:12 Sitting Joey Chestnut.
01:03:15 - But you can lose Joey?
01:03:16 - I don't want to, but I feel like he's had such a good run
01:03:19 for the last decade that he might be in the back half--
01:03:22 - Get a statue.
01:03:23 - Yeah, we're getting him a statue if he, you know.
01:03:26 - Here's a wild card.
01:03:27 Dylan Mulvaney.
01:03:30 - Right, just confuse him a little bit.
01:03:32 - And then like half of the red states in America
01:03:36 are canceling aliens, so I don't know if we can do that.
01:03:39 - The aliens are like, oh, we gotta get the fuck out of here.
01:03:40 Let's go to some other country.
01:03:41 This is crazy, we can't get canceled.
01:03:43 - And then they go to China,
01:03:44 and then March 14th comes way sooner than we thought.
01:03:47 - Yeah, then they start helping him.
01:03:48 You're right, we can't send Dylan.
01:03:49 - That's a fun question.
01:03:52 Who would you send?
01:03:52 Drop in the comments who you'd send
01:03:55 to meet the alien president.
01:03:59 - I'm saying 45.
01:04:00 Yeah, not that I, we can--
01:04:04 - Not that I--
01:04:05 - Not that I--
01:04:06 (laughing)
01:04:07 - Not that I want him to die at all,
01:04:11 but also it's like, you know, you lose a soldier,
01:04:13 you're throwing somebody out there that can--
01:04:15 - That's war.
01:04:16 - Yeah, that's war.
01:04:17 - So you're gonna send 45?
01:04:19 - I think so.
01:04:19 - With the option of losing him?
01:04:21 - You don't wanna lose your best soldier.
01:04:23 - Get the statue too.
01:04:24 - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:04:27 - At what cost, Will?
01:04:28 - They take Trump.
01:04:29 - Content.
01:04:30 - Content.
01:04:31 - If, hey, listen, if we're going down,
01:04:33 they're deciding then and there if we're going down.
01:04:35 - Imagine Donald Trump is abducted by aliens
01:04:39 and then he's, you know he'll find a way
01:04:40 to get a message back to America.
01:04:43 Look what I've done here.
01:04:44 (laughing)
01:04:47 - Yeah, that's a good one.
01:04:49 - Just sends back a message, law and order.
01:04:52 He's trying to like write it in the stars.
01:04:54 Yeah, Trump would--
01:04:55 - Your days are numbered, Earth.
01:04:56 - Yeah.
01:04:57 - Before we get into the Ryan Blaney episode, Mitch,
01:05:02 you were on a two dimes and a token.
01:05:05 Shout out to the boys.
01:05:06 I feel like they're like a brand of Bust With The Boys.
01:05:10 - The modern league system.
01:05:12 - Yeah.
01:05:13 - It's like our triple A.
01:05:14 - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:05:15 - They're in the forum system.
01:05:16 - They're in our forum system.
01:05:18 - Yes, I was.
01:05:19 - How was it?
01:05:20 Did you enjoy it?
01:05:20 - It was down to the structure.
01:05:21 - For everybody wanting to know what the episode's like,
01:05:23 it was a lot like that exchange.
01:05:24 (laughing)
01:05:26 - No, I listened to the whole thing.
01:05:27 Thought you did a good job.
01:05:28 - I appreciate that.
01:05:29 - Got to see behind the curtain of Mitch Carson
01:05:31 and his process of coming to Bustin' With The Boys.
01:05:33 - Gotta take a peek behind the curtain.
01:05:34 - Yeah, I had no idea you were a fan of the boys like that.
01:05:37 - Yeah, I was, I mean, I was miserable in NASCAR.
01:05:42 So I found--
01:05:43 - Poor NASCAR just catches strays.
01:05:45 - Yeah, it's like--
01:05:46 - I'm the episode man.
01:05:47 - Yeah.
01:05:49 - But NASCAR people are cool.
01:05:50 My job was not cool.
01:05:51 I'll preface it that way.
01:05:52 But yeah, it was, I was a fan of you guys.
01:05:55 I was like, just watching pods and stuff.
01:05:58 And then Will's tweet ended up sparking this.
01:06:02 And then that text I got from Will
01:06:04 was one of the most wild texts I've ever received.
01:06:08 - Well, he was explaining his interview process.
01:06:12 And he said he was on Zoom and JP was like,
01:06:14 your camera was off, but it said JP Hovey and it was you.
01:06:17 And he's like, yo, it's so crazy.
01:06:18 I'm talking to Will Compton right now.
01:06:19 - Will, when we sent him your LinkedIn profile photo.
01:06:23 (laughing)
01:06:25 - Yeah, that, and when I received that text,
01:06:27 I'm like, this is fake.
01:06:28 - No way, yeah.
01:06:29 The next one might have to be in the corner of the room.
01:06:32 - And, but yeah, and then it was cool to be
01:06:36 in front of the camera rather than behind.
01:06:39 But I mean, he's super cool.
01:06:41 Jack's been on before.
01:06:43 I think y'all two are going on soon.
01:06:45 So--
01:06:45 - Ooh. - Shout out, bro.
01:06:47 - Yeah, shout out, bro.
01:06:48 - Bruck nasty.
01:06:49 - Bruck's the main guy.
01:06:50 - Is there anything you wanted to address
01:06:52 with the bringing it up?
01:06:53 - I thought you did your top three most athletic
01:06:56 and I thought you had the right three people in there.
01:06:59 - Who was it?
01:07:00 - Us three.
01:07:01 - No, you have to go and watch it.
01:07:01 You have to go and watch it.
01:07:02 - But it was us three.
01:07:03 - Oh, damn, I'm bad.
01:07:04 - He put you at two, though, he put me at three.
01:07:05 - I mean, if you want me to say,
01:07:06 it was me, Will, and then Taylor.
01:07:08 And then Jack was honorable mention.
01:07:10 (laughing)
01:07:13 - Pussy ass.
01:07:14 - I think right now as we stand today, that's probably,
01:07:17 I think that's probably a correct order.
01:07:22 Five years ago, no.
01:07:23 - Well, yeah, I mean, yeah, it's different.
01:07:24 I mean, your knees are a bit banged up.
01:07:26 - I got shaky knees now, dude.
01:07:27 - There's nothing wrong with that.
01:07:28 - I got shaky knee syndrome.
01:07:30 - Will's got the back.
01:07:32 - Things hurt, yeah.
01:07:32 - He's the youngest one here, so I mean.
01:07:34 - Yeah.
01:07:35 - Almost athletic.
01:07:36 - We've seen you kick a soccer ball.
01:07:37 - Mitch came to our gym, too, this past week.
01:07:39 - You ain't the most athletic, Mitch.
01:07:41 - Booth camp?
01:07:41 - Yeah, Mitch came to booth camp.
01:07:44 Didn't run as much as I thought he would, but he was there.
01:07:46 - I ran just as much as you did.
01:07:47 - No, you didn't, Mitch.
01:07:49 (laughing)
01:07:51 - Hilarious.
01:07:52 - Oh, that laugh.
01:07:54 - I know, it's crippling.
01:07:55 - That laugh is so disrespectful.
01:07:58 - No, but you know what?
01:07:59 After booth camp, it was a little stinky,
01:08:03 a little hot, sweaty.
01:08:04 You know what I used?
01:08:05 - Duke Cannon.
01:08:08 They have a collection of holiday products coming up
01:08:10 that men actually like.
01:08:11 Give the boys something they deserve,
01:08:13 like a big ass lump of Kohl's soap from Duke Cannon.
01:08:16 Duke Cannon's holiday gifts are made in the USA
01:08:19 by humans, not elves.
01:08:21 These gifts aren't going to break the bank
01:08:23 and make the perfect gift for you and your boys,
01:08:25 your father-in-law, that cousin you barely like,
01:08:28 but they have a list of names and scents.
01:08:31 Taylor, do you wanna run through these names?
01:08:33 - Yeah, dude, they got the big ass lump of Kohl's soap,
01:08:35 they got the illegally cut pine soap,
01:08:37 mall Santa's cough syrup soap.
01:08:39 They got so many more, dude,
01:08:40 but they're all holiday seasonal.
01:08:41 - I love their little, I love those names.
01:08:43 - Those are fun.
01:08:44 - Rudolph's Much Deserved Nightcap.
01:08:46 Oops, All Brandy Homemade Eggnog.
01:08:48 - Whoops-a-daisies.
01:08:49 That's a fun thing about Duke Cannon.
01:08:50 You're getting fun scents and fun names.
01:08:52 - Yeah, they bring out the theme, they embrace the holiday,
01:08:54 which is exactly what you want
01:08:56 out of a brand that works with us.
01:08:57 - If you're looking at the boys right now
01:08:58 and you're thinking, "Boys, how do I get this stuff?"
01:09:00 You can find their holiday soaps and gift sets
01:09:02 at Target, Walmart, or just go to dukecannon.com.
01:09:05 Use the internet, boys.
01:09:06 - But if you do go to Target, they have a nice setup.
01:09:09 I was there the other day, they have a nice setup.
01:09:12 Like, the way they do the soap stuff out there,
01:09:14 the scents and the deodorants, they got a legit setup.
01:09:17 - I like that. - It's like,
01:09:17 "Yo, we're the big swinging dick on campus."
01:09:19 - I like that.
01:09:20 - Duke Cannon.
01:09:22 - Duke Cannon. - Not for clowns.
01:09:23 - Titan's special team coordinator
01:09:24 has been relieved of his duties.
01:09:26 - No.
01:09:29 - According to Jim Wyatt.
01:09:30 - Was it?
01:09:33 I didn't get to catch it, that's why I was flying back.
01:09:35 - We lost Stonehouse completely.
01:09:38 Hannah Hill had laces out on a kick
01:09:40 that we would have won the game, essentially,
01:09:43 'cause we went to OT.
01:09:45 And so Stonehouse is the normal--
01:09:47 - Holder. - Yeah, the holder
01:09:48 for the kicks, and so he took a really,
01:09:50 like, he might be done for the season.
01:09:52 - Yeah, that was a bad hit.
01:09:53 Did you see it?
01:09:54 - His knee looked like the guy from Saints.
01:09:55 Like, it wasn't good.
01:09:57 - But it, like, kinda went out and came back in.
01:09:59 Yeah, they went to block a punt,
01:10:00 and his plant foot was on the ground,
01:10:02 and you could see the hyperextension,
01:10:03 and then come back, dude, it was tough.
01:10:06 Jeffrey Simmons got hurt, Derrick Henry got knocked out.
01:10:08 - Concussion protocol, it was a scary day.
01:10:11 - One of those days, man.
01:10:12 - Oh, man, that sucked.
01:10:14 - That's Auk, yeah?
01:10:15 - Yeah, it's Auk, bro. - Craig?
01:10:17 Auk's such a good dude, too.
01:10:18 - I know.
01:10:19 - Damn. - His son was just
01:10:21 in the state championship last week,
01:10:22 and he wanted me to send a little video.
01:10:24 - Yeah? - Yeah.
01:10:25 - Did you? - Yeah, I sent a little video.
01:10:28 I said something like, what'd I say?
01:10:30 I said I had, you know, my three keys, or my three things.
01:10:32 It was like, get the fight started, talk shit,
01:10:35 but not too much, don't get in trouble,
01:10:36 and when you beat their ass,
01:10:37 I forget what the team's name was,
01:10:39 but you walk over, you take your letterman's,
01:10:41 and you put it on their women.
01:10:42 - Nice.
01:10:45 - I kinda preface, I was like,
01:10:46 hopefully I'm just talking to the locker room,
01:10:47 no parents involved.
01:10:48 - Yeah. - Let's get out.
01:10:48 - Yeah, get out, wait five, six seconds.
01:10:50 - Yeah, yeah. - Good, it's just us?
01:10:52 - Yeah.
01:10:53 - Aukerman, man, that's tough, dude.
01:10:54 Great dude.
01:10:55 - Yeah, great dude. - An all-in-all guy.
01:10:56 - That sucks, man.
01:10:57 You know, you are getting to the point,
01:10:59 it was like, we were talking about like,
01:11:01 Vrabe is the guy for the job,
01:11:03 but you keep losing, and you end this way,
01:11:05 like, it's like, all the assistants,
01:11:06 all the coordinators head on a swivel,
01:11:07 because you gotta change something up.
01:11:10 - Mm-hmm, yeah.
01:11:11 - But, ah, man, what a way to go out.
01:11:14 What a way to introduce this podcast.
01:11:15 Ryan Blaney, he was awesome.
01:11:17 My favorite moment was when he was talking
01:11:18 about getting drunk at Dale Jr.'s town.
01:11:20 - Yes. - So that's a great,
01:11:21 that's a great story. - Being lost in ATV
01:11:23 through the woods. - Yeah.
01:11:24 - Just awesome.
01:11:25 - Yeah, he was a good dude. - Absolutely awesome.
01:11:26 - I had a lot of fun with him.
01:11:27 He was a voice on "Cars 2."
01:11:29 - "Cars 3."
01:11:30 - "Cars 3," there's three of 'em?
01:11:31 - Yeah, he was in "Cars 3."
01:11:32 - I gotta get caught up, I gotta watch it.
01:11:33 - Magnum P.I., he's done a lot of cameos.
01:11:36 Same Magnum P.I. as Eddie George was in also.
01:11:39 Wild, I watched a couple clips.
01:11:41 - Fun fact, fun fact.
01:11:42 - Yeah, he's got some ability.
01:11:43 - Yeah, and he knew how to chop it up with a voice.
01:11:44 - Yeah, and that's always a weird thing for us
01:11:47 is when we're meeting somebody
01:11:47 we don't know a whole lot about,
01:11:50 how are they gonna act?
01:11:51 Is it more gonna be me and Will having fun
01:11:52 than trying to figure out questions?
01:11:53 It was a great conversation the whole way through, man.
01:11:55 It was a really good time.
01:11:56 We gotta have him on again.
01:11:57 - Subscribe, drop comments, do all the things.
01:12:01 Big hugs, tiny kisses.
01:12:04 - Big golf guy?
01:12:05 - Yeah, I love, I love, I got a play out there
01:12:07 earlier this year, actually.
01:12:08 - Really?
01:12:09 - I hear it's awesome. - It's a lot of thought, man.
01:12:10 - Yeah. - It's nuts.
01:12:12 - I heard that Troubadour's a place that's like
01:12:14 country clubs for people that don't like country clubs.
01:12:17 - Yeah, it's like, well, all those Discovery properties
01:12:21 are that way. - Right.
01:12:22 - Like, there's one here in Vegas.
01:12:24 I mean, they're all over the world, but yeah, it's,
01:12:26 yeah, like you said, country club for people
01:12:28 who hate country clubs.
01:12:29 A whole new way to do it.
01:12:30 - Is it like you get to not dress down,
01:12:32 but you don't have to be--
01:12:34 - You can dress however you want.
01:12:35 - Dress however you want.
01:12:36 Like, Ernest goes out there and he'll be--
01:12:37 - Is that Vrabel?
01:12:38 Is that where Vrabel goes? - No, he's at Richland.
01:12:39 That's country club.
01:12:40 - Yeah, Vrabel's-- - That's a colored shirt
01:12:42 tucked in. - Yeah.
01:12:43 - You know, Vrabel's a big, he's a big boss though.
01:12:45 - Yeah, he's a big swing and dig type of guy.
01:12:47 Like, I gotta make sure people know that I have money
01:12:49 and look at my $25,000 entry fee to this place.
01:12:52 Are you part of a country club?
01:12:53 - I am, yeah. - There you go.
01:12:54 What a great way to start a new show.
01:12:56 - I know, I know.
01:12:58 Just an asshole over here being a part of a country club.
01:13:00 - Yeah.
01:13:01 What got you into country club life?
01:13:03 I know we're here for NASCAR, and also, by the way,
01:13:05 I saw your clips on Magnum PI.
01:13:06 Congratulations. - Oh, thank you.
01:13:07 - That's badass. - I appreciate that.
01:13:09 That was fun.
01:13:11 What got me into country clubs?
01:13:12 Well, I really am not into the country club scene.
01:13:14 I'm more into just, I like golfing.
01:13:16 - Yeah. - So, I, like,
01:13:17 you just needed to be, like, I just can't play
01:13:19 public courses anymore.
01:13:20 I mean, everyone golfs now.
01:13:22 - It's just not for you. - So, it's like,
01:13:23 you're gonna take five hours to play golf.
01:13:24 I just can't do that, so.
01:13:25 - How often do you golf throughout the year?
01:13:28 - I don't know, race season gets tricky.
01:13:29 I try to go at least once a week, maybe.
01:13:32 If I usually, I usually get, like, one day to myself
01:13:34 during the week, and I'll try to get around in.
01:13:36 - Yeah. - But I don't like the country,
01:13:37 I don't, like, ever go in.
01:13:38 I just go, "Yeah." - Yeah, you go, yeah.
01:13:40 Get the cart, rip around a little bit.
01:13:42 What is, like, golf is a lot of drinking.
01:13:45 Do you get some drinking in while you're in race season?
01:13:48 - While I'm racing? - While you're,
01:13:49 not in race season, in the one day you have off.
01:13:52 - Oh, yeah. - You get some drinking
01:13:53 in game day? - Oh, yeah.
01:13:54 All right, oh, like, if I had to go eight months
01:13:56 during the season without drinking, I don't know what I'd do.
01:13:59 - Boys get after, does your team get after it?
01:14:00 Like, are you guys, is the camaraderie high?
01:14:02 - My boys are, my 12 guys are absolutely,
01:14:06 just will burn it down.
01:14:07 They just got out here today,
01:14:08 and I think they're still out on this,
01:14:09 they're on Broadway right now, just letting it rip.
01:14:12 - Getting after it. - They're gonna be
01:14:12 on the parade float, and they're gonna,
01:14:14 I don't even know what state they're gonna be in.
01:14:16 - Yeah, the pit crew guys are like the offensive line.
01:14:18 - Yeah. - They just kinda seem
01:14:19 like they get after it, and they're just rowdy cats.
01:14:21 - My gas man, he played for the Panthers for a little bit.
01:14:24 He was a tight end. - Really?
01:14:25 - Chris Conklin, yeah.
01:14:26 So we have a few ex-NFL guys, we have some baseball guys.
01:14:32 All the, yeah, pit crew, over-the-wall guys,
01:14:34 they're all ex-athletes, pretty much.
01:14:36 - Yeah, I wonder if Paul's here.
01:14:39 Do you know Paul Swan? - Swan, yeah.
01:14:41 I don't know if he's here or not.
01:14:42 - Yeah, I wonder if he's here.
01:14:43 He's somebody that's like the first kind of person
01:14:45 we've kinda met in the NASCAR community
01:14:47 that really embraces nothing but big dick energy.
01:14:50 Like, just, he's got the chest hair out.
01:14:52 - Yeah, chains. - He's just got his vibes.
01:14:54 He wants to hit pushups.
01:14:55 - Incredibly beautiful green eyes.
01:14:57 - Yeah, I mean, it's just like--
01:14:58 - God, you know, I know, I do, God, fucking dude.
01:15:01 - Yeah, he's got a little bit of grease on him,
01:15:03 but it's kinda like, it can get placed
01:15:04 for you a little bit more.
01:15:05 - Yeah, yeah. - And he's just a wild man.
01:15:07 When we met him, it was like, okay, this is the guy.
01:15:09 He went to NASCAR two years ago, right?
01:15:11 - Are you talking about we did?
01:15:12 - No, this is just you, 'cause one year I didn't make it.
01:15:15 So two years ago, he goes, he's like,
01:15:16 Paul Swanson, Paul Swanson, you gotta know this guy,
01:15:18 Paul Swanson, big dick energy.
01:15:19 Just keeps talking him up.
01:15:21 And usually when you talk to your buddies
01:15:22 and you're like, hey, this is, you put it up here,
01:15:24 when you really experience it, it's not as high as you think.
01:15:27 I met him, and it almost exceeded--
01:15:28 - It exceeds it, yeah. - The expectation.
01:15:30 Is that, does he have like a legacy
01:15:32 in the NASCAR world of being the guy,
01:15:34 the big dick energy guy?
01:15:35 - Do you know him that way?
01:15:37 - I know him?
01:15:38 - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:15:39 - I don't know, I know Paul, fairly decent,
01:15:42 but yeah, he's like that label guy, BDE guy.
01:15:45 - Yeah, we have BDE, there we go.
01:15:47 - He'll walk down Pit Road before the race
01:15:49 and like they're setting up pistols,
01:15:51 and he'll have his fire suit unzipped
01:15:53 on the way down, bro. - That's awesome.
01:15:55 - I'm like, yeah, I love it.
01:15:57 - We were curious, we're like, man,
01:15:59 we wonder if Paul Swanson, if his legacy goes outside
01:16:01 of just, we'll see if his brand,
01:16:03 if he's known around the NASCAR community.
01:16:05 - Yeah, literally thought to ourselves,
01:16:06 maybe we can get to that part of the conversation,
01:16:07 but why not start in the first 60 seconds
01:16:09 with on the podcast, tell us about Paul.
01:16:11 - Yeah. - Immediately.
01:16:12 - Hey, this is a shout out for him,
01:16:14 this is building his-- - He's gonna love it.
01:16:16 He's gonna be all about it. - He's a big blessing guy too.
01:16:18 He's about blessing.
01:16:19 With, when you're in the situation you were,
01:16:21 going into the cup and like the four-way tie type thing,
01:16:23 all that, like how do rivalries play into that?
01:16:26 Like who is your big rival while you're like,
01:16:29 throughout your career? - Between us four?
01:16:30 Or through my career? - Throughout your career.
01:16:32 So we'll start there, we'll incrementally go down.
01:16:35 - I don't really know, I feel like, like I don't,
01:16:37 I've been lucky, I haven't had anyone like I really despise.
01:16:40 Like you'll have kind of run-ins with some guys
01:16:42 every now and then.
01:16:42 Some guys kinda, they will hate each other
01:16:45 for years and years, I haven't really been that way.
01:16:47 I'd say more my rivalry is like my buddies,
01:16:49 who I grew up racing with.
01:16:50 Like we're all good friends, you know,
01:16:52 Chase Elliott and I, Bubba, Wallace and I,
01:16:54 we grew up together, you know, we started racing together
01:16:56 when we were like nine, 10 years old.
01:16:57 So I feel like they're kinda like your rival.
01:17:00 - Is your family situation the same,
01:17:01 you obviously come from a pedigree of racers.
01:17:03 - Chase is it, you know, Bill Elliott drove,
01:17:05 Chase's dad, Bubba doesn't come from a racing family,
01:17:08 like his parents never raced.
01:17:09 He just started when he was young
01:17:11 and he and I actually first started, yeah,
01:17:12 when we were like 10 years old together.
01:17:14 I remember us growing up together,
01:17:15 but I feel like, like that's my rivalry is my buddies.
01:17:19 - You're just trying to like, yeah,
01:17:20 you're just trying to like beat 'em,
01:17:21 maybe not be too loud about it, but until you win
01:17:24 and you're like. - Yeah, yeah, a little bit,
01:17:26 but it's not too bad.
01:17:27 We all support each other, but you wanna beat those guys
01:17:29 more than anyone else, I think, your buddies.
01:17:31 - Yeah, are there guys that are just knowing like,
01:17:34 oh, this dude's an asshole?
01:17:35 - I think we're all, we can all be that way.
01:17:39 - Yeah. - And someone's not.
01:17:39 - What's been your asshole moment?
01:17:41 You have an asshole moment? - You see the clips
01:17:42 of dudes swinging with helmets on,
01:17:43 which they need to have a talk with you.
01:17:44 - If you see etiquette is a little off,
01:17:45 like as a fan, like, you know, listen,
01:17:47 I'm a dumb NASCAR fan, but when you see a couple bumps
01:17:50 in the road, you're like, oh yeah,
01:17:51 you kinda want some demolition derby type shit.
01:17:53 - You want that, you want the Missouri news,
01:17:54 like, oh, there we go boys, there we go boys.
01:17:57 And you guys, obviously, like, there's like some lines
01:18:00 that get crossed.
01:18:01 - There are, there are some lines that get crossed,
01:18:03 but it just kinda depends of how far you cross that line.
01:18:08 - What's, hey, here we go, we do pet peeves,
01:18:11 we do like shout out, no free shout out pet peeve
01:18:13 of the week.
01:18:14 What's a pet peeve in the NASCAR realm
01:18:16 to where you're just like, it's just,
01:18:17 it's kind of an unspoken law that goes down.
01:18:21 When crossed, you know it's kind of legal,
01:18:23 but also it's like, we all know that that's bullshit.
01:18:26 - Oh man.
01:18:27 - That's a good question.
01:18:28 - Shit.
01:18:29 - That's a solid question.
01:18:30 - That is a good question.
01:18:31 Like unwritten rule kind of stuff?
01:18:32 - Yeah, like in hockey, there's like things you should
01:18:34 and shouldn't do, but it's not in the rule book.
01:18:36 - Not in the rule book.
01:18:36 - Like you might go up and say something to somebody
01:18:37 or get in their face knowing like, he's gonna,
01:18:40 you know, like, it's not gonna make any sense
01:18:43 to everybody else, but he knows what I'm speaking to.
01:18:46 - I think the more of it, it's like the athletes
01:18:48 that are involved, right?
01:18:49 Like in the NFL, you guys had stuff, right?
01:18:51 Like, all right, you don't do this, you can do this,
01:18:53 this is not cool.
01:18:54 And on the track, I feel like between drivers,
01:18:56 yeah, it's like cheap shots, right?
01:18:57 Like running into somebody, throwing them on purpose,
01:19:01 like for no reason, I'm sure it's the same way
01:19:03 as like getting a, you know, a leg block
01:19:06 or something from the behind.
01:19:07 - Tripping a guy or something like that.
01:19:08 - Yeah, tripping, like, you know.
01:19:09 - Going low.
01:19:10 - Going low, right?
01:19:11 And hurting somebody, taking a chance to hurt somebody.
01:19:13 I think it's kind of the same way in our world.
01:19:15 Like athletes, the drivers, you know what's fucked up
01:19:18 and what's not, right?
01:19:19 And I think it's the same with every sport.
01:19:21 But yeah, I think on the track, like if someone runs
01:19:24 into you for no reason, you're like, well, what the fuck?
01:19:26 - Yeah, have you done it before?
01:19:27 - Oh yeah, I mean, you'll do it.
01:19:28 I mean, that's, everyone does it.
01:19:30 I mean, but it's just a matter of how many times.
01:19:33 Yeah, yeah, I mean, everyone does it.
01:19:35 Everyone has those things, they're like,
01:19:36 yeah, it's kind of messed up, I do it, but I do it anyway.
01:19:38 - Is there a specific situation in your career
01:19:40 where you're like, I'm intentionally gonna do something here
01:19:42 'cause it's been pissing me off?
01:19:43 - And afterwards you're like, I shouldn't have done it,
01:19:45 but emotions were high and I was.
01:19:47 - I would say I've said things I wish I didn't say.
01:19:50 I don't think I've, not that I can think of right now,
01:19:53 but I've done an action that I'm like,
01:19:54 I shouldn't have done that.
01:19:55 I feel like it's more things you say,
01:19:57 like, maybe I shouldn't have said that.
01:19:58 - What's something you said?
01:20:00 - Oh, just like, fuck that guy,
01:20:01 or like, that guy's a dick or something, you know?
01:20:03 But as far as actions, I don't think I've ever done anything
01:20:06 I'll be like, I regret that.
01:20:07 But words, I feel like you can regret pretty easy.
01:20:10 - 'Cause when in NASCAR, you can go,
01:20:12 I went to the PIR as a kid with my grandparents.
01:20:14 They were big into NASCAR,
01:20:15 and you could get the walkie talkies
01:20:17 or the little monitors with the headphones
01:20:19 where you can listen to the pit crews.
01:20:20 - Are there like two different wavelengths
01:20:23 or whatever they are with different channels?
01:20:24 - No, you would have been, if you bought that--
01:20:25 - I've been able to listen to you as an eight-year-old kid
01:20:27 go, fuck that guy?
01:20:28 - Drivers, yeah.
01:20:28 Yeah, you've been able to hear drivers.
01:20:29 - Oh, that's awesome.
01:20:30 - Yeah, so if you've ran a radio as a fan,
01:20:33 yeah, you'll be able to hear anyone you wanna hear,
01:20:35 hear all the good stuff, the unfiltered.
01:20:37 That's what you want.
01:20:38 - The unfiltered would be sick.
01:20:39 - That's what you want, yeah.
01:20:40 - It's like hot mics, right?
01:20:41 Like when NBA and NFL do the hot mic stuff,
01:20:44 like, I like listen to that,
01:20:45 and I feel like it's the same way with radios with us.
01:20:48 - When you said you started racing at nine, 10 years old,
01:20:50 obviously you can't get a driver's license until you're 16,
01:20:52 but you come from a pedigree.
01:20:53 Like when you were born, growing up,
01:20:56 were you just like, I'm gonna be a racer,
01:20:58 that's what I'm gonna do?
01:20:59 Was that like the number one goal your whole life?
01:21:00 - I mean, I grew up around it, you know,
01:21:02 dad racing before I was born.
01:21:05 So I just grew up around that stuff,
01:21:07 and I wanted to do it,
01:21:09 but like my dad never pushed me to do anything.
01:21:11 Dad was always, do you wanna do it?
01:21:13 And I remember like every step we took,
01:21:14 like into different cars or series,
01:21:16 like, sure, you wanna do this,
01:21:17 'cause it's a big commitment, right?
01:21:19 If you're gonna half-ass do something,
01:21:20 why are you doing it?
01:21:21 So dad was always good at that.
01:21:23 So yeah, I was lucky, it's always what I wanted to do,
01:21:25 'cause I just wanted to do what my dad did,
01:21:27 and I was really lucky to be able to do it,
01:21:29 but I never really, I played other sports,
01:21:31 but I faced facts like, hey,
01:21:34 I was like five, six till I got to high school,
01:21:36 or until I graduated high school.
01:21:38 I'm like, and I played basketball in that time,
01:21:40 baseball, I was like,
01:21:40 all right, I have to list my career opportunities.
01:21:43 I'm gonna be like five, nine.
01:21:45 I can't jump very high.
01:21:47 You know, racing's probably gonna be my career.
01:21:50 - You have to race skin color for other sports.
01:21:52 - Right.
01:21:52 (laughing)
01:21:54 Hockey, football, basketball,
01:21:56 I'm not physically adequate enough to do that,
01:21:59 so I'm like, I'm gonna go do the racing side,
01:22:01 and I'm pretty good at the racing stuff,
01:22:02 and I wasn't very good at the other stuff either, so yeah.
01:22:05 - How sick is it that you did wanna do this your whole life,
01:22:09 and now you're, you were the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series champion?
01:22:12 - Well, it's, you know, it's neat.
01:22:14 I, growing up around it, I admired those guys
01:22:17 who were champions 'cause I was at the track with my dad,
01:22:19 and I got to be around those guys,
01:22:21 you know, the Jimmy Johnson's and Jeff Gordon's
01:22:23 and all those guys, and just wanted to be that person.
01:22:26 So it's, yeah, it's kinda hard to believe, you know,
01:22:28 if you have a dream as a kid and you finally accomplish it,
01:22:30 you're like, damn, it's kinda all come full circle,
01:22:33 and then you think back on all the people
01:22:34 that helped you out along the way,
01:22:36 and it's, yeah, it's definitely a neat feeling.
01:22:38 - Yeah, that's, yeah, I love that stuff.
01:22:41 When you're a kid, obviously, you look up to your dad,
01:22:42 but was there a driver that you're like,
01:22:45 almost would make your dad feel like,
01:22:46 man, he thinks that guy's cooler than me?
01:22:48 - Yeah, I mean, I loved, you know, Jimmy Johnson,
01:22:50 Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Matt Kenseth, you know,
01:22:52 those guys were kinda like the guys I loved,
01:22:54 besides my dad, you know, I loved watching those guys race.
01:22:57 - You realize what kind of bus you're sitting on, right?
01:22:59 - It's the, what bus is it?
01:23:03 - Number eight, Taylor and Hart.
01:23:04 - Is it? - Yeah.
01:23:05 - It's the junior bus. - Yeah.
01:23:06 - I see your, you got a Gordon sticker,
01:23:08 you got a Kenseth sticker.
01:23:09 - This bus actually used to go to tailgates.
01:23:12 - Really? - We found it in the back
01:23:13 of a Wedgwood Houston parking lot.
01:23:15 - Oh, I didn't know that. - It was broken down
01:23:16 and everything, but it used to travel
01:23:17 to all the NASCAR events.
01:23:18 - That's badass, a lot of history in here.
01:23:19 - Yeah. - So not a Dale Earnhardt Jr. fan.
01:23:21 - No, I love Dale. - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:23:23 I was, you lived with Dale.
01:23:25 - Say something nice about Dale.
01:23:25 - I lived on Dale's property for like three years.
01:23:29 - Is it the farm?
01:23:30 Is it like the old like Western town?
01:23:31 - Oh, damn, weird stories.
01:23:33 - I lived right across the woods from there, so.
01:23:34 - He said he was gonna invite us to,
01:23:36 invite us to that like what, last year?
01:23:37 - To the town? - Every year he invites us,
01:23:38 but you know. - Yeah, the town.
01:23:40 - The Whiskey River town, yeah, yeah, that was fun.
01:23:41 - You lived there for three years?
01:23:42 - I lived there, yeah.
01:23:44 So, funnest times of my life.
01:23:46 I was like a rookie in the Cup Series, I'm 21 years old,
01:23:50 living by myself in my house I'm renting for the first time,
01:23:54 and like Dale's a thousand yards through the woods.
01:23:58 And Dale was still racing at the time,
01:23:58 so we would get done with these races on Sunday night,
01:24:01 get home at 10, 10.30, and I would go drive a four-wheeler
01:24:04 through the woods to Dale's house and get absolutely wrecked.
01:24:07 - Damn, that is-- - For like six hours
01:24:09 and then one eye a four-wheeler through the woods
01:24:11 back to my place.
01:24:13 That was like the funnest years of my life.
01:24:14 So, Dale's, yeah, Dale's so much fun,
01:24:16 and yeah, it's cool, this is the eight bus.
01:24:18 It's big. - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:24:19 You were rattling off names, I was like,
01:24:21 oh, he hasn't said Dale yet, I wonder if he's--
01:24:22 - No, I, okay, sorry, Dale, I was a big fan of you,
01:24:25 you were awesome to me. - That is awesome,
01:24:27 taking a four-wheeler, just whipping through,
01:24:29 like I'm gonna go over to Dale's.
01:24:30 - Yeah, like a soft drink at your buddy's house,
01:24:30 I'm like, I'm gonna get out of here.
01:24:32 - But like, no, yeah. - And just going
01:24:32 through the woods. - No worries, I mean,
01:24:33 I'm just in the woods, I'm driving through the trails,
01:24:36 it's all good. - Did you ever get lost?
01:24:38 - I think the first time I did it, I got lost.
01:24:40 - No way. - Everything looks the same.
01:24:41 It's the woods and it's dark,
01:24:42 and I'm seeing eight of everything, so.
01:24:45 - Just pulling the number two. - It was rough.
01:24:48 - East of Whiskeytown, it seems like it exceeds
01:24:50 the hype it already gets.
01:24:52 - Yeah, it's slowing down a little bit, you know.
01:24:55 Dale's, I got a couple kids now, so it's slowing down,
01:24:57 but there was some wild stuff that happened in the town
01:25:00 that was, I can't say. (laughing)
01:25:04 - You didn't know your part? - I can't say.
01:25:05 - Oh, that is awesome.
01:25:06 - You brought up a guy's name, and I'm not super well-versed
01:25:09 in NASCAR, but Tony Stewart.
01:25:10 He was considered a shit-stirrer kind of guy, right?
01:25:13 - Was that who Dale would get after with?
01:25:15 - I don't remember. - Or he almost swung on somebody?
01:25:16 - I just remember going to the, literally going to PR
01:25:18 with my grandparents and being like, Tony Stewart,
01:25:20 that guy's a piece of shit.
01:25:22 And I'd be like, yeah, Grandpa, absolutely.
01:25:24 I literally, and I just, that always stuck with me.
01:25:26 - Yeah, he brings up NASCAR, yeah.
01:25:28 - Yeah, Tony was, I mean, he was a fiery personality.
01:25:32 He was always great to me and my family.
01:25:34 I was a little tiny kid, and I remember him being great
01:25:37 to me, and he was awesome to race with.
01:25:39 But yeah, he had that fire in him.
01:25:41 And I think in the early 2000s, it was the height
01:25:44 of him getting into a bunch of disagreements.
01:25:47 But Tony's a good guy.
01:25:50 He's a hell of a person.
01:25:51 - When you were growing up,
01:25:51 did you always want to drive for Ford?
01:25:53 - I didn't really care who I drove for, honestly.
01:25:55 Growing up, you're just trying to make it.
01:25:57 You're just trying to have a job.
01:25:59 And we got, I've been with Ford for the last 10 years now.
01:26:04 2013, we started working with them,
01:26:05 and they've been fantastic.
01:26:06 So I really haven't worked with anybody
01:26:08 at the professional level, like a Toyota or Chevy.
01:26:11 - Not a Chevy.
01:26:13 - I know, unfortunately, I see the sign back here.
01:26:15 But no, Ford's been, they've been great family to me.
01:26:18 And but yeah, as a kid, I didn't really care.
01:26:21 But now, obviously, you do.
01:26:23 But I just wanted to have a job as a kid.
01:26:26 I didn't care who I drove for.
01:26:27 - How do you make it?
01:26:29 I apologize for being an idiot on all the racing NASCAR,
01:26:32 but I also enjoy it 'cause I feel like a newborn
01:26:34 learning a lot of new stuff.
01:26:35 How do you make it professionally in NASCAR?
01:26:38 Like what's the, obviously with football, you get drafted.
01:26:40 - You go play high school, and you go to college,
01:26:42 and hopefully get drafted.
01:26:43 - Yeah. - Pretty linear.
01:26:44 - Yeah, I feel like the steps are a little bit different.
01:26:47 There's a lot of similarities.
01:26:48 It was, like we have little league, right?
01:26:51 Like there's local tiny, like I started when I was nine.
01:26:55 So like go-karts, all those stuff.
01:26:57 You know, that's just like a little league kid
01:26:59 getting going, right, and T-ball or something.
01:27:00 And so there's different steps you take as you get older.
01:27:04 I'd say like our, you know, AAA, AA is like trucks
01:27:08 for Xfinity series.
01:27:10 And then you hope you get noticed,
01:27:11 and you make it up to the big leagues,
01:27:12 you know, of the Cup Series.
01:27:13 And so I think it's, some of it's similar.
01:27:16 You're not going to school for this stuff.
01:27:17 Like there's no scholarships for it.
01:27:19 But yeah, it's just having good people around you.
01:27:22 Good sponsors, obviously, are huge on it.
01:27:23 And yeah, there's feeder series that you have to do well in
01:27:26 to get noticed by an owner and give you a job, so.
01:27:30 - And I wonder what it's like too,
01:27:31 like if somebody's got like an instinct
01:27:34 or an eye for driving,
01:27:35 but they're just not in a faster vehicle.
01:27:38 Like in the Xfinity of like, you're trying to get noticed,
01:27:41 but you're not winning even those events.
01:27:42 But how somebody that has it might not get identified
01:27:46 just because they might not have the right--
01:27:47 - Vehicle might not be as good.
01:27:48 - Yeah, or the right environment or people.
01:27:50 - It happens all the time.
01:27:51 - Yeah, I mean, there's people
01:27:53 that I think are great race car drivers,
01:27:54 but they haven't gotten the shot that they,
01:27:56 I think they deserve.
01:27:57 And that's at any level, whether it's the NASCAR level,
01:28:00 you're in a lower tier car, or the local short track level.
01:28:03 I know guys I grew up racing with that are,
01:28:06 were twice my age that were unbelievable race car drivers,
01:28:08 but they just never got a shot.
01:28:10 Yeah, that stuff happens all the time.
01:28:12 - Obviously you're very proven at this point,
01:28:14 but when you were coming up,
01:28:16 did you feel like you got maybe like a little more
01:28:18 of a helping hand from your dad?
01:28:21 - Yeah, when I was, when I started,
01:28:23 dad was still racing when I started racing
01:28:25 and really through my mid late teenage years,
01:28:28 dad was still racing.
01:28:29 So he wasn't at every track with me every weekend.
01:28:32 He had his own job.
01:28:33 But I did feel like, growing up, it's like,
01:28:37 oh, that's Blaney's kid, that's Dave's son.
01:28:40 See how he is, right?
01:28:41 Is he worth the shit or something like that?
01:28:43 And so, yeah, I think there was a little bit
01:28:45 of that pressure.
01:28:46 It's like, all right, I gotta live up
01:28:47 to what my dad can do and try to make it like he did.
01:28:50 So there was a little bit of that as a kid,
01:28:52 but I think you grow out of it.
01:28:53 Like as you get older, you realize you're your own person
01:28:55 and you kind of do things your own way
01:28:57 and start living by your life instead of your,
01:29:01 like your parents, right?
01:29:01 Or someone who came before you.
01:29:03 - Was that a difficult process to get to that point though,
01:29:05 fighting the pressure and then being like,
01:29:06 okay, I gotta be my own self here
01:29:07 in the same avenue that my father made?
01:29:10 - A little bit.
01:29:10 I feel like there was always,
01:29:11 you felt like there was always so many eyes on you.
01:29:13 Like, I gotta do good.
01:29:14 I gotta prove myself.
01:29:16 I don't wanna look like a clown.
01:29:17 So I feel like, yeah, that was a big thing growing up,
01:29:20 trying to overcome that as a kid.
01:29:22 That's hard to overcome.
01:29:23 You know, you're already kind of shy and nervous as a kid.
01:29:25 And then you have all these eyes on you
01:29:26 and you're having to prove yourself
01:29:27 and live up to expectations.
01:29:29 That can be a lot on a kid.
01:29:30 And luckily it all worked out.
01:29:32 - Was it one of those things too,
01:29:33 like when you would win and if your dad,
01:29:36 your old man wasn't there,
01:29:37 like you're calling to be like, hey, I won.
01:29:39 - Dad's the first guy I call after every race,
01:29:41 even nowadays.
01:29:42 Like, it's just how, that's how it's been for 20 years.
01:29:44 And that's just how it is, you know?
01:29:46 So he's just, and it's, the role has changed over the years.
01:29:49 Like I used to call my dad for advice
01:29:50 and now it's just calling him just to call him, you know,
01:29:52 and talk to him just, it's almost routine.
01:29:55 So yeah, he's still the first one on my phone.
01:29:58 - That is cool.
01:29:58 If your dad was in his prime right now,
01:30:00 who would win the race?
01:30:01 - I've always thought my dad was the best race car driver
01:30:03 I've ever seen.
01:30:04 And I think whether that's just the son and me,
01:30:06 you know, admiring your parents,
01:30:08 I think dad's the best one that's ever lived, you know?
01:30:10 And that's just how it's always been.
01:30:11 So I feel like if dad was in his prime,
01:30:13 if we were both 30 years old going at it,
01:30:16 I feel like he would, he would, he would beat me.
01:30:18 He would tell you opposite.
01:30:20 He would tell you that I would beat him.
01:30:21 But yeah, dad to me is, will always,
01:30:24 and always has been, always will be the best one out there.
01:30:27 - Who would win?
01:30:28 Does anybody back there have an idea?
01:30:30 - That's good. Put him on the spot.
01:30:32 Yeah, you guys, who would win?
01:30:33 - Yeah, yeah, like you just wonder
01:30:35 if somebody's sitting back there like,
01:30:36 "Oh, you know, actually, Ryan would do it."
01:30:38 - Ryan might edge him out.
01:30:39 - Ryan might edge him out.
01:30:40 - Old man wouldn't stand a chance.
01:30:41 - Dave's got that.
01:30:42 My dad still races.
01:30:43 My dad's 61 and he still races dirt sprint cars.
01:30:46 My dad's badass.
01:30:47 Yeah, he gets after it.
01:30:48 - 'Cause there is that, I feel like with father, son,
01:30:50 I have two girls, but father, son, like dynamics,
01:30:52 there's always like a point in life where it's like,
01:30:54 kid beats you in shooting hoops.
01:30:55 Kid beats you on air hockey or something.
01:30:57 Do you guys ever have one of those moments?
01:30:59 - Yeah.
01:31:01 We were a big ping pong family in my household.
01:31:02 And I remember I got to the age,
01:31:04 I started beating my dad in ping pong and like,
01:31:06 of course, you know, basketball.
01:31:09 It just grinded his gears.
01:31:11 - Yeah, I feel like ping pong,
01:31:12 I've seen father, sons go at it.
01:31:14 Like when the son's taking over,
01:31:16 like it is painful for the old man.
01:31:19 - I feel like that's anything.
01:31:20 Your girls might do it to you.
01:31:21 When they start beating you in anything,
01:31:22 you're like, gosh, I'll make sure.
01:31:23 - I'll make sure.
01:31:24 (laughing)
01:31:25 - You guys wanna go out in the field and block?
01:31:26 You guys need to beat me?
01:31:28 - All right, get the pads on.
01:31:29 Yeah, get the pads on.
01:31:31 We're gonna get one on ones.
01:31:32 - Do one on ones outside.
01:31:34 - What's been the biggest win
01:31:37 outside of being the NASCAR Cup Series champion,
01:31:40 the biggest win of your career where you feel like,
01:31:42 yo, I'm on my way.
01:31:45 Biggest moment where you've had the biggest high of winning.
01:31:48 - Yeah, you know, I feel like it's either your first one.
01:31:50 I won my first cup race in 2017.
01:31:53 So I feel like, you know, then it's like, all right,
01:31:55 I feel like I'm kinda here, right?
01:31:57 It was my second year in the NASCAR deal.
01:32:00 And I'm like, all right, I feel like I'm kind of established.
01:32:01 Like I've finally won a race, all that.
01:32:03 Either that one or we won at Martinsville
01:32:06 to get us to Phoenix this year.
01:32:08 I grew up just south of Martinsville, Virginia.
01:32:11 That was like a home track for me.
01:32:13 So I think winning at my home track,
01:32:16 winning there to get to Phoenix,
01:32:18 that's won us a championship.
01:32:19 I was pretty fired up on that one.
01:32:20 So I think either one of those two is top one, yeah.
01:32:24 - How high up is Talladega Knights on your list of movies?
01:32:27 - It's up there.
01:32:28 I like Talladega Knights.
01:32:29 I really do.
01:32:30 I usually tell people it's 95% true.
01:32:31 - Ooh. - Really?
01:32:33 - I love that.
01:32:33 - Good call, good call.
01:32:34 - Like is Talladega Knights accurate?
01:32:36 I'm like 95% of it.
01:32:37 - Yeah, it's based on my life.
01:32:38 - Based on my life, yeah, actually, yeah.
01:32:41 - What's the 5%?
01:32:42 - 5%?
01:32:43 - 5%?
01:32:43 - When he's in the wheelchair,
01:32:44 pretend like he doesn't have, his legs don't work.
01:32:46 (laughing)
01:32:47 - All the shifting.
01:32:47 - All the shifting.
01:32:48 - Yeah, or John Gerard drinking a fucking macchiato
01:32:51 or something while he's out there racing.
01:32:53 You remember that?
01:32:54 - You don't do that?
01:32:54 - No.
01:32:55 - You never do a shake and bake out there?
01:32:56 - Shake and bake.
01:32:57 - You guys have cool handshakes.
01:32:58 - Sometimes, yeah, we have cool.
01:32:59 - You have cool buddies?
01:32:59 - A few of us have cool handshakes, yeah.
01:33:00 - If you wanna be the racer you claim to be,
01:33:02 you need to have a secret handshake
01:33:04 with every one of the guys in your picture.
01:33:05 - Yeah, it's like LeBron has it
01:33:06 with every guy on his team.
01:33:07 - Yeah, most quarterbacks,
01:33:08 you see Josh Allen with the Bills.
01:33:10 He's dapping everybody up, doing all these cool things.
01:33:11 - I don't know how they learn that.
01:33:12 - It's like they're throwing gang signs out there.
01:33:14 - There's so many people on the roster.
01:33:15 How do you remember all the handshakes?
01:33:16 Did you guys have handshakes with everyone on your roster?
01:33:18 - We had a couple, we got one.
01:33:19 You wanna see it real quick?
01:33:21 It's just a little, that's a little something.
01:33:23 - That's a small one.
01:33:24 - It's just bigger ones.
01:33:24 - The bigger ones are a little bit more.
01:33:25 - It's a more elaborate one we haven't seen for,
01:33:27 seen each other for a long time.
01:33:28 There's a big hug involved.
01:33:29 It's, it's very special.
01:33:31 - How do you choreograph it though?
01:33:32 Like you practiced it and everything.
01:33:33 - Yeah, my daughters and I, we have secret handshakes.
01:33:34 - Nice.
01:33:35 - Yeah, yeah.
01:33:36 - I think maybe with my kids, I'll, when I do have them,
01:33:38 I'll make a handshake.
01:33:40 - You were talking earlier,
01:33:41 you said sometimes on the shake and bake,
01:33:42 that stuff happens.
01:33:44 - We don't like say shake and bake in the car.
01:33:46 - I'm just saying, if team members are out there
01:33:50 and it's like, you know, right, right, right.
01:33:52 Yeah, or yeah, Ryan's got the faster car.
01:33:54 Yeah, slingshot.
01:33:55 Yeah, yeah, I guess you're right.
01:33:56 Yes.
01:33:57 - Yeah, your boys set each other up.
01:33:57 - Hey man, you know what?
01:33:58 You, you got the gas.
01:33:59 I got to, I got to hit the pit soon,
01:34:01 but I'll, I'll ride you out.
01:34:02 So that way you can climb up.
01:34:03 - No, I mean, we like,
01:34:04 we don't talk to each other during the race.
01:34:06 Like if us three were drivers, like I can't talk to you.
01:34:08 - Why?
01:34:09 - Like, we'll just different teams, different radio.
01:34:11 - I can't just chime in,
01:34:12 but hey Ryan, you're doing a hell of a job, man.
01:34:13 I'm going to try to hold these boys off back here.
01:34:15 - No, you can't do that.
01:34:15 - He's the guy.
01:34:16 That's the guy you want racing for you.
01:34:17 - That's the guy we need.
01:34:18 Not you.
01:34:20 No, well, we can't talk to each other on the radios,
01:34:22 different drivers, but the,
01:34:25 what'd you say, the slingshot?
01:34:26 - Yeah.
01:34:28 - There's a variation of it.
01:34:29 Like if we go to like Talladega or something,
01:34:31 like drafting tracks, like you'll see people do that,
01:34:33 but you're not like, it's not as choreographed as like.
01:34:35 - When you say drafting, when you say drafting tracks.
01:34:37 - Yeah.
01:34:38 - Is that like longer straightaways?
01:34:40 - Yeah, yeah.
01:34:40 - Then you get the speeds up on it?
01:34:41 - Talladega, yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:34:42 - Yeah, the big boys.
01:34:43 - The big race tracks.
01:34:44 - Are those the kind of tracks you like to race?
01:34:46 Like what's the perfect race for you?
01:34:47 You're like, yes, I'm going to my spot here.
01:34:49 - The short tracks are great.
01:34:50 Like Martinsville, like a tiny half mile.
01:34:52 Like that's a tiny racetrack.
01:34:54 The bigger one, I mean, our tracks range
01:34:55 from half mile to two and a half miles.
01:34:57 So massive differences.
01:34:59 Well, which one did you go to?
01:35:01 - I went to PIR and the one in Nashville.
01:35:03 - Oh, okay, okay.
01:35:04 Yeah, so PIR and Nashville, they're like just over a mile.
01:35:07 So you imagine these places are over twice the size
01:35:10 of like Nashville.
01:35:11 - Yeah.
01:35:12 - These big, big places.
01:35:13 Yeah, that's where you see that a little bit more.
01:35:14 - And you like the short tracks,
01:35:15 like from a technical standpoint, is it more difficult?
01:35:17 - Just technical, yeah.
01:35:18 - The better driver shows out in the shorter tracks?
01:35:20 - Yeah, yeah, I think so.
01:35:21 And all of us grew up racing those.
01:35:22 - Jeez, I see you.
01:35:24 I'm out here kind of cooking right now.
01:35:25 You seem to be kind of working.
01:35:26 I might get behind the wheel.
01:35:27 - You might.
01:35:28 - You might, you could do it.
01:35:29 - You gotta get out there, man.
01:35:30 - Am I too tall?
01:35:31 - No, you are taller than I thought you'd be though.
01:35:32 - Six seven, brother.
01:35:33 - Yeah.
01:35:34 - That's a lot of length.
01:35:35 - I thought you were like six three.
01:35:35 - I was hoping.
01:35:36 That actually, like six seven to me
01:35:37 is like kind of like zoo animal worthy.
01:35:38 It's like, well, it's too tall to me.
01:35:40 - Right, yeah.
01:35:41 - I think that six two, six three range is just perfect.
01:35:43 - Like once you're out of your sport, right?
01:35:45 - Yeah, now I'm just kind of like this Neanderthal
01:35:46 walking around the earth.
01:35:48 - Well, then everyone sees you out at a bar.
01:35:49 You're like, everyone comes, probably comes up to you
01:35:51 like, what do you do?
01:35:52 You gotta do something.
01:35:53 - Yeah, and I was--
01:35:54 - What team do you play for?
01:35:55 - Yeah, the good news is I was able to play for a team.
01:35:57 - That definitely happens too.
01:35:58 - I think about those guys that are my height
01:35:59 that didn't make it.
01:36:00 And it's like, you just gotta go your whole life
01:36:01 telling people, no, I never played sports.
01:36:03 - Yeah, yeah.
01:36:03 - And that's kind of a nice little dub for me
01:36:04 to walk around in.
01:36:05 And I've also lost 60 pounds.
01:36:06 People are like, you look familiar.
01:36:08 - Yeah.
01:36:09 - Yeah.
01:36:10 - I got baseball in Vegas a couple weeks ago.
01:36:12 - Really?
01:36:13 - You played baseball?
01:36:14 I go, I gotta gain some weight.
01:36:14 That's what I knew.
01:36:15 Hey, listen, we gotta put some LPs on.
01:36:17 - Yeah, baseball.
01:36:18 - Well, no, I'm not--
01:36:18 - I noticed you're left-handed.
01:36:19 Are you a pitcher?
01:36:20 - Yeah.
01:36:21 (laughing)
01:36:22 - From organized sports, did you ever play 'em?
01:36:24 Did you ever wanna do 'em?
01:36:25 - Yeah, I played baseball, I played basketball.
01:36:26 I loved it.
01:36:27 I love playing basketball the most, probably.
01:36:28 My uncle, my dad's brother, he's 6'4".
01:36:33 He's in the West Virginia Hall of Fame for basketball.
01:36:35 Got drafted by the Lakers in the '80s.
01:36:37 - Oh, shit.
01:36:38 - He played summer ball with Magic and shit.
01:36:40 And I heard him--
01:36:41 - That's wild.
01:36:42 - Yeah, his knees were destroyed and ended up going racing.
01:36:45 But yeah, I love basketball,
01:36:47 just because I grew up around it.
01:36:49 My family, I love baseball.
01:36:50 I got hit in the face with a pitch one time,
01:36:52 and I was like, yeah, I'm done playing baseball.
01:36:55 I'm not doing this anymore.
01:36:56 - How old were you?
01:36:56 - 10, 11.
01:36:58 - We had a conversation yesterday,
01:37:00 and I literally, like, eight, nine, 10 years old,
01:37:02 I quit hockey once the checking started.
01:37:04 Baseball, I'd always step away when I swung.
01:37:07 When the brown balls came, I was like,
01:37:07 get me the fuck out of here.
01:37:09 I was like the biggest pussy growing up of all time.
01:37:12 So I share that with you.
01:37:13 We have something in common.
01:37:14 - We're just both pussies.
01:37:16 - I share that with you, brother.
01:37:17 Here we are.
01:37:18 - What's your favorite sport to watch?
01:37:20 Outside of, obviously, your NASCAR guy.
01:37:22 - Yeah, I love, I love watching football, probably.
01:37:27 College and professional, kind of equally.
01:37:29 Like, I'm from Ohio, so I watch Ohio State.
01:37:31 - Ooh.
01:37:32 - That was a rough one the other day.
01:37:34 - I would disagree.
01:37:35 I would say it's the opposite.
01:37:36 It's great.
01:37:36 - I saw your sweatshirt on it.
01:37:37 - I went to Michigan.
01:37:39 - Yeah.
01:37:39 - Just, we won't get into it.
01:37:40 - I know.
01:37:41 - Yeah, we won't get into it.
01:37:43 - And then I'll watch, like, I'm a Bengals fan, Browns.
01:37:45 And then I'll watch the Panthers.
01:37:47 - God, you are picking some tough teams.
01:37:48 - Just 'cause I live there.
01:37:49 Well, I live in Charlotte, and then I'm from Ohio.
01:37:51 But the Bengals, I felt good about this year,
01:37:53 but it's been a tough year.
01:37:54 - I know, until Joey B went down, man.
01:37:56 - Cleveland's actually not that bad this year.
01:37:58 - They're not bad, but again--
01:37:59 - Waste of hurt people, too.
01:38:00 - Yeah.
01:38:01 - No, they're actually decent.
01:38:02 - Yeah, they're good fans.
01:38:02 Run the ball well.
01:38:03 - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:38:04 - You never know.
01:38:05 - It's a real fan.
01:38:06 - What do you guys watch mostly now?
01:38:07 Like, what's your go-to?
01:38:08 - Football.
01:38:09 - Is it more college or professional?
01:38:11 - Man, I don't know.
01:38:12 - I like watching college better.
01:38:13 - Yeah.
01:38:14 - It's more, I feel like 'cause I'm way more removed
01:38:15 from college, it's kinda like fun to watch, like,
01:38:18 just the different talent levels and guys.
01:38:20 It's like more pure.
01:38:21 In the league, it's like, the world is built
01:38:23 to be a 500 league.
01:38:24 Like, every team is built a certain way.
01:38:25 There's obviously your outliers.
01:38:27 And for me, it's like, on college Saturdays,
01:38:30 you're able to like, more mistakes happen,
01:38:32 more things can swing one way or another.
01:38:34 And I think that's awesome.
01:38:35 - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:38:36 No, that's why I like watching, we have a,
01:38:38 like a, what are the, what are the cannonballers?
01:38:41 Like a triple A, single A?
01:38:43 We have a single A team by the house, baseball.
01:38:45 And I love watching those games 'cause you see mistakes.
01:38:47 There's a lot of people screwing up.
01:38:49 And that part to me is kinda fun to watch.
01:38:51 - Yeah, it's the bloopers of the game that are kinda like,
01:38:52 you guys would get there.
01:38:53 - Well, it's like, you're human, you know?
01:38:54 - Yeah, yeah.
01:38:55 - Like, you make mistakes too.
01:38:56 Like, the pros are so good, like,
01:38:57 they rarely see mistakes, right?
01:38:59 - Right.
01:39:00 - It's fun to see that.
01:39:00 - In the NFL, I like watching like,
01:39:02 the individuals more than, you know, everything.
01:39:05 I was like, college, team, team spirit.
01:39:08 - Yeah.
01:39:09 - Team spirit.
01:39:10 Live and die with the squad.
01:39:11 - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:39:11 - Which at this point, we're dead.
01:39:13 - Yeah.
01:39:14 - Nebraska, kid.
01:39:14 - Oh, you're from Nebraska?
01:39:15 - Nebraska, yeah.
01:39:16 - It's been a rough go.
01:39:17 - Yeah.
01:39:18 - What about, what are you about to be done?
01:39:19 - He, I mean, he did say he has a parade
01:39:21 where he's gonna be drinking and driving in the parade.
01:39:23 For anybody who's down there and listens to this,
01:39:25 make sure to check it out.
01:39:26 - Real quick before you go,
01:39:27 you had opportunities to do acting, to be in "Cars."
01:39:29 Like, how did that all happen?
01:39:31 - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:39:31 Yeah, I was in "Cars 3."
01:39:32 I did the Magnum PI episode.
01:39:35 - How sick is that?
01:39:36 - Magnum PI.
01:39:36 - Eddie George was in that episode.
01:39:37 - Yeah.
01:39:38 - Yeah.
01:39:39 - Who was that one guy that was in it?
01:39:41 The guy from "The Hangover."
01:39:42 - Yeah, yeah.
01:39:43 - Yeah.
01:39:44 - That guy.
01:39:45 - I forget his name.
01:39:45 - Bobby Lee's older brother.
01:39:46 - Yeah.
01:39:47 Everyone knows who we're talking about right now.
01:39:49 - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:39:50 - The Hangover guy.
01:39:51 - Yeah.
01:39:51 - Yeah.
01:39:53 - I don't know.
01:39:53 I mean, I love doing that stuff.
01:39:54 The Magnum PI thing was sick because they film in Honolulu,
01:39:59 and I was actually in Maui on vacation,
01:40:02 and they called me and they were like,
01:40:03 "Hey, you wanna come film?"
01:40:04 And I was like, "Fuck yeah, I'll just get on a plane
01:40:07 and island jump here."
01:40:08 And we filmed that, and I went back on my vacation.
01:40:09 But hopefully I'll do more of that stuff.
01:40:11 I enjoy doing it.
01:40:12 I enjoy seeing the behind the scenes
01:40:14 that go into that stuff.
01:40:15 It's always super cool to me,
01:40:17 all the people that are involved in it.
01:40:18 So yeah, we'll never know.
01:40:20 I've been trying really hard to,
01:40:21 I was trying to get one of the Star Wars sequel movies.
01:40:25 - I saw that that was one of your-
01:40:26 - I never got in there.
01:40:27 - One of your interests was Star Wars.
01:40:29 We could talk shop on Star Wars all day long.
01:40:30 - Yeah, the good news about Star Wars,
01:40:31 they're gonna make a billion more of those things.
01:40:33 They're gonna have time.
01:40:33 - Hey, he's not a Star Wars guy.
01:40:35 - No?
01:40:36 - It's not that I'm not a Star Wars guy,
01:40:37 I just haven't taken the time to go watch Star Wars.
01:40:38 So technically I'm not a Star Wars guy.
01:40:39 - It's a lot of time.
01:40:40 It's a lot of time you gotta dedicate to it.
01:40:41 - It's like the Marvel universe.
01:40:43 There's so many at this point, I can't get into it.
01:40:45 - Yeah, I've given up on Marvel a little bit.
01:40:47 I got a wife, I got this job.
01:40:49 I got shit going on, man.
01:40:51 I get to sit down and watch 36 movies.
01:40:53 - Right. - It's a lot.
01:40:54 But we'll get you out of here.
01:40:54 - You got Blippi. - Hang on, hang on.
01:40:55 - You got Blippi and Shark Dude going on all the time too.
01:40:58 - Dude Wipe shittiest moment segment.
01:41:00 What's been the shittiest moment of your career?
01:41:02 - You use Dude Wipes?
01:41:03 - The shittiest, oh.
01:41:04 - You should.
01:41:05 - Go ahead and grab that bag right there.
01:41:06 - I think I should.
01:41:08 Shea butter, smooth.
01:41:09 - Yeah, smooth.
01:41:10 - None of those-
01:41:10 - Dude Wipe and regular TP, brother.
01:41:11 That thing, that's caveman stuff right there.
01:41:13 - None of the little-
01:41:14 - No TP anymore.
01:41:15 - No, the Dude Wipes is where it's at.
01:41:16 - Those little dingleberries you get out in the shower,
01:41:18 no more with Dude Wipes.
01:41:20 None.
01:41:21 - They would be good after a race.
01:41:22 - There you go.
01:41:23 - Oh yeah, dingleberries after a race?
01:41:24 - The shittiest moment of my career.
01:41:26 I love how you went over that.
01:41:27 Flew right over that comment.
01:41:29 What's the worst moment of my career?
01:41:31 - I don't know.
01:41:33 I hit really hard in Nashville this year at this track.
01:41:35 Earlier this year, like really, really hard.
01:41:38 That was probably the shittiest moment.
01:41:39 Hard hits are always usually pretty bad.
01:41:42 Takes you a little bit to get over 'em.
01:41:44 And recover, but yeah,
01:41:45 I'd say that was probably the shittiest thing.
01:41:46 - From a physical standpoint or you're just like-
01:41:47 - Both, mentally, physically.
01:41:50 - Why mentally?
01:41:51 Is it like an embarrassing thing
01:41:52 or you're just like kind of like a little gun shy
01:41:54 when you get back out there?
01:41:55 - I wouldn't say gun shy.
01:41:57 I'd say more like-
01:41:58 - Yeah, like are you on fire?
01:41:59 - Caution in like thinking straight.
01:42:01 You know, like that stuff.
01:42:03 - Is that one of the most common injuries with NASCAR?
01:42:05 - For us, yeah.
01:42:06 I would say we've done a really good job at it.
01:42:07 We've gotten way better over the years
01:42:09 and we're working at it,
01:42:10 but that's like the biggest thing in our world right now,
01:42:13 safety-wise, that we're trying to get sorted out.
01:42:16 And that's with everything.
01:42:17 I mean, it's hard to fix that,
01:42:19 but that's the biggest thing that we work on,
01:42:22 trying to fix concussions.
01:42:23 - Yeah.
01:42:24 - Yeah.
01:42:25 - Well, brother, hey, thanks for coming on, man.
01:42:26 - Thanks for having me.
01:42:27 - It's been a lot of fun.
01:42:28 - Helmet too, that's awesome.
01:42:29 - No problem.
01:42:29 - That's gonna stay there for a long time.
01:42:30 - All right, good.
01:42:31 (laughing)
01:42:32 - Thanks guys.
01:42:33 Thanks for bringing them along.
01:42:34 (silence)
01:42:36 (silence)
01:42:38 (silence)
01:42:41 [BLANK_AUDIO]
