00:00 anybody on our team. I mean a 38 plus minus when your win by
00:04 22 is extraordinary. Nice to have Hannah Stolke back,
00:08 obviously. Playing unlimited minutes tonight, was able to
00:12 play it, you know, whatever we needed out of her. Really good to have her back.
00:16 -How important was that stretch right before the half that, you know, Gabby hits a three,
00:20 Kaitlin hits a three late in the shot clock? Up until that point it was a really close game.
00:24 How big was that to go into the half with 10 point vision? -Tremendous. You know, you go in
00:28 and you're like, "Oh, I'm gonna get it."
00:32 [no dialogue]
00:36 [no dialogue]
00:40 [no dialogue]
00:44 -In Florida, just what has it kind of been like to deal with that and then how much
00:48 did you feel like yourself? -I think it was
00:52 really good to be back to myself today. I was a little
00:56 bit down and we talked about that and Coach helped
01:00 me a lot getting back to myself, which is really helpful. I love her for that.
01:04 But it felt great being back out there today, jumping high.
01:08 [laughter]
01:12 -Just kind of talk about
01:16 the... I didn't really have a question.
01:20 [laughter] -Kyle, I love that you acknowledge
01:24 that. That is awesome. That is the first time that's ever happened in 30 years
01:28 and I love it. That was awesome, man.
01:32 I hope you got that, Zach.
01:36 -I actually did ask for the microphone. Hannah, you drew
01:41 six fouls today, didn't commit any. Was that sort of part of the game plan, especially
01:45 with a big like Sarah Williams going up against you? -Yeah, I think drawing
01:49 fouls was really important. It got her out of the game for
01:53 more minutes than she should be out of the game. She's an amazing player.
01:57 I thought that was our big game plan.
02:01 -It seems like you're a lot calmer at the line right now.
02:05 How much has that improved for you?
02:09 -At the free throw line? Oh, good. Sorry.
02:13 It's improved a lot. Just my confidence, getting those extra
02:17 reps in practice and on my own.
02:21 She's worked really hard on it and Coach Tanaya Davis has really
02:25 also worked very hard with her to make her a very good
02:29 free throw shooter. -Syd, just talking about that play at the end of the first
02:33 half. You drove into the lane with a couple seconds on the shot clock. You turned and were able to
02:37 feed it out to Kaitlin for the three. It seemed like you were pretty calm in that moment to
02:41 turn and find the open player even though it was late in the shot clock. -We get reps like that
02:45 all the time in practice. I heard Kaitlin calling for the ball. My drive wasn't
02:49 open so I was looking for my teammate to pitch the ball to. She hit the shot
02:53 and that was a good way to close out the first half.
02:57 -Coach, Jack Money from CBS Sports.
03:01 I just wanted to ask about Kaitlin's off the dribble shooting and how have you seen that
03:05 aspect of her game improve over her career? -I think
03:09 she's really been always a very good off the ball, off the
03:13 dribble shooter. In fact, what I've been trying to work on her is getting her
03:17 away from the ball and reading screens and coming off that. When she gets her
03:22 feet set coming off a screen, it's money. It's just the most beautiful thing.
03:26 I feel like she's always been really good with the ball in her hands. I
03:30 like to get it away from her sometimes. -Lisa, can't help but notice she's
03:34 not in here. Why is that? Just curious why that is. -She just doesn't feel very good right now.
03:38 -Coach, you guys were 0 for 8
03:42 to open the game from deep. Talking to Marissa earlier this week, she talked about
03:46 how important that is. Ended up making 9. What was it with that
03:50 opening stretch, struggling behind the arc, and just how key was it to
03:54 get going the way that you guys did? -It was very key and we wanted to hold
03:58 their three point shooters down as well, especially when Sarah got in foul trouble. That wasn't
04:02 like now, okay, let's focus on the three point shooting.
04:06 Defensively. Offensively, I always feel like it's
04:10 contagious. It just is. Man, somebody misses and then
04:14 everybody starts doubting themselves. If somebody comes out and makes them, like in the second half it was totally different.
04:18 Maybe we got better shot looks. I gotta watch the film
04:22 to see. I think sometimes it's momentum.
04:26 I think sports is full of momentum and swings and that sort of thing.
04:30 I think it was just a confidence issue more than anything.
04:34 -Lisa, you guys have faced a couple of really good posts
04:38 in Liz Kittley and Aoka Lee this year. How have you seen Sarah
04:42 grow in her development year over year? -I really
04:47 am a big fan. I think she's got great size. She's athletic.
04:51 I just think she could be a great stretch four or
04:55 five. I think Sarah's a tremendous player.
04:59 She got into foul trouble tonight so we didn't get to see her at her full strength, thank goodness.
05:03 Because she's a lot to guard. -Lisa, you've been
05:07 around this game a long time. When you walk into an opposing venue and there's 14,000
05:11 plus people, what does that say to you and what does it say for the growth of this game?
05:15 -The growth of our game, it's been fun to watch. I've been
05:19 a part of it really almost since the beginning and to see where it's come
05:23 it's so exciting because
05:27 this was something that you only dreamed of and now it's happening on a regular
05:31 basis. It's kind of like everywhere we
05:35 go we're kind of used to it now. I think we'd be really disappointed if we went to play some place
05:39 with 14,000 people there.
05:43 I'm proud of Hawk fans. There was a lot of black and gold there.
05:47 I'm proud of that. I'm proud that Hawk fans will travel
05:51 and they've proved that over and over again. I also think
05:55 the Wisconsin fans wanted to see Kaitlyn, they wanted to see this team play.
05:59 I just love
06:03 the attention that women's basketball is getting right now because it deserves it.
06:07 -Have you seen Kate Martin take a little bit of a scoring role this season? She still does
06:11 a little bit of everything but have you seen Sid move into that role of doing
06:15 whatever it takes, a few points, a few rebounds, just whatever, kind of that Kate Martin role?
06:19 -Again, Sid,
06:23 I just love her energy on the floor. I love that she doesn't back down
06:28 from anybody. I love that she's going to scrap for every rebound.
06:32 To me, that energy that you bring
06:36 to come in off the bench is amazing. It really is so good
06:40 for the team. I'm really proud of Sid because
06:44 she's worked really hard these last two years and hasn't got a lot of playing time
06:48 and now she's getting the benefit from that. -Coach, you mentioned
06:52 that Kaitlyn wasn't feeling great today. Take me
06:56 through the decision to bring her back into the game with about two minutes left in the game
07:00 pretty well in reach. What are you trying to get done there? -She sat
07:04 there for a long time. I really didn't at that point.
07:08 She sat for a long time up there before that happened. Did I have to put her
07:12 in? No. I decided to put her back in.
07:16 There's not much more to it than that.
07:20 -One really quick follow up. When she takes a spill like that
07:24 at the very end, are you panicking a little bit on the inside
07:28 or what are your thoughts when that happens? -You never want anybody ever to get hurt.
07:32 I want to go back and look at the film on that one.
07:36 She gets beat up constantly.
07:40 It's so hard mentally to take that. She
07:44 does night in and night out. I feel for her.
07:48 You never want any player to get hurt but it can happen in the first
07:52 minute as well as the last couple of minutes. When we have a lead
07:56 I need to be more cognizant of that.
08:00 -You said she's back. You said she played
08:04 unlimited today. Are you looking to get her back in the starting lineup at some point?
08:09 -I don't know yet. We have a week to make that
08:13 decision and go through practice. Finals are upon us right now. Their focus
08:17 has to be in academics so we're not bringing anything new in, offensively or
08:21 defensively, anything like that. We're just going to try to execute, keep them sharp,
08:25 and let them really excel in the classroom. I don't know what our lineup will be for the next game.
08:29 I have no idea. -Coach, a little bit of a big...
08:33 Right here to your right. A little bit of a more big picture question.
08:37 Obviously two Wisconsin prep players,
08:41 Teagan Mullaney and Taylor Stremlow, were in attendance this afternoon.
08:45 How big of the state of Wisconsin is your recruiting
08:49 base and how much do you think that will play a factor going forward?
08:53 -This state has great girls basketball. I think Iowa does
08:57 and I think Wisconsin does as well. We have had great Wisconsin players come through
09:01 our program. When you look at Sam Lodgick, you look at
09:05 Megan Gufson, the national player of the year. Sam Lodgick was a first round draft pick.
09:09 McKenna Warnock graduated from
09:13 our team last year. We have two coming in, as you mentioned.
09:17 This is a place that we recruit heavily because we
09:21 believe in the talent in this state. I think the high school coaches do a great job in this state.
09:25 AU coaches do a great job. It's close to home.
09:29 Yes, we will continue to recruit this area very hard. There is some really good talent
09:33 here. -At this point, how would you describe yourself as a player?
09:37 What's your identity become? -I think I can
09:41 do a little bit of everything, whatever the team needs me to do.
09:45 I think it's been really crucial for me to
09:50 get on the floor, get loose balls, get those rebounds.
09:54 It kind of shifts the energy of the game.
09:58 I think my confidence has really grown this year. I'm really comfortable.
10:02 Every time I'm out there, my coaches have done an amazing job
10:06 helping me out with that. It feels good. I think I'm playing good now.
10:10 I'll just keep riding the wave.
10:14 Thank you, guys.
