00:00 Alright, questions for coach?
00:05 Speaking of Schriever, you had four guys that weighed in at 133.
00:08 We're going to weigh in four guys at 133 until we figure it out.
00:13 Schriever took a good step forward, I love it.
00:16 What went into that decision?
00:17 He wanted the match, he wanted the match, he wanted the match.
00:20 He's been through hell.
00:22 This gambling bull**** is bull****.
00:25 He's been through hell.
00:26 He wanted the match.
00:28 He made the most of it.
00:33 Two other guys that have appeals.
00:37 See what happens.
00:38 Schriever, good job back there.
00:41 You've got a couple weeks now until that next competition.
00:46 What are you looking to improve on in that time?
00:51 You know, improve upon things is a funny word.
00:54 So I mean, we got it.
00:56 Hey, it's coming up.
00:58 And you know, the Soldier Salute, that's coming up.
01:00 But it's coming up.
01:02 And we were in it a couple weeks ago.
01:05 You know, at Penn we were in it a little bit.
01:08 But it's coming up.
01:10 And we have to keep looking to put the best team on the mat.
01:18 And it is not rocket science to say that we need ten weight classes contributing.
01:24 That's what we're looking for.
01:26 We need ten weight classes contributing.
01:31 What did Cohen show you out there on the mat?
01:34 What were you impressed with?
01:35 He wanted the match.
01:36 And you know, when you want the match and you verbalize it, then you make the most of
01:43 the opportunity.
01:44 And things weren't going his way.
01:47 He dug himself out of a hole.
01:50 And there's just, there's some things that, you know, that you look for.
01:54 And they're admirable qualities.
01:56 Is this progress tonight?
01:59 I mean, like I said, I mean, you talk about improvement and progress.
02:06 Those are funny words to me.
02:07 They're funny words to me.
02:08 They don't jive in my world, really.
02:12 Because you go week to week and you're like a yo-yo.
02:16 And we just, we got to be very steady.
02:18 And we have to keep looking to put the best ingredients on the mat for this team.
02:23 Whatever those ingredients are, those are the ones that need to be on that mat.
02:30 Caleb Rotchie got his first start tonight.
02:32 What did you see out of him?
02:33 First start to Carver.
02:34 I saw a guy that can hit holes.
02:36 And he's been a little bit hesitant in the past.
02:38 And a little bit maybe inconsistent.
02:40 And he's hitting holes.
02:43 And he's got more to show, too.
02:45 That match, you're going to blow that match out.
02:47 And he did a good job getting the bonus points.
02:49 But you can really blow that match out.
02:51 [APPLAUSE]
02:53 Overall, do you think the team was more aggressive and offensive
02:56 compared to some previous matches?
02:58 That's another one of those questions that doesn't really jive with me right
03:04 now.
03:05 We got to put our best people on that wrestling mat.
03:09 And the charge was led by Drake Ayala.
03:16 And we had a guy that hasn't even been able to compete.
03:21 And he made the most of it.
03:24 And I'm damn proud of that.
03:27 Damn proud of that.
03:28 What did it mean to have that opportunity and then go out and capitalize?
03:38 I mean, it meant a lot to me.
03:41 I've been through a lot these last several months.
03:46 So now that I got the green light, finally, and like Tom said,
03:53 I just wanted to go capitalize on it.
03:55 And so it really did mean a lot.
03:58 There's definitely some emotion built up in there, for sure,
04:03 because these last seven, eight months, even beyond that,
04:09 it's never been easy.
04:11 Honestly, my whole time here hasn't been easy by any means.
04:13 But I just stuck to it.
04:15 And I really think that I've grown a lot.
04:20 And I'm honestly thankful that all of this stuff
04:23 happened because it made me a better person, a better wrestler.
04:28 And I feel like I almost figured my life out a little bit
04:31 throughout all the adversity.
04:33 So I mean, it meant a lot, for sure.
04:36 Can you expand on what exactly were you facing?
04:40 What was the adversity that you battled through to get back to this point?
04:45 I mean, the adversity, I mean, everybody kind of knows by now
04:50 what we were going through.
04:52 Some people, including me, were going through with the gambling stuff.
04:56 So I mean, kind of that was a lot of it.
04:59 And I know that what I did was against the NCAA rules.
05:08 But I also don't necessarily think that the punishment was
05:12 just for the actions.
05:16 But with that being said, I do know that what I did, I can't do that.
05:21 So that's kind of the adversity that I was going through.
05:24 And obviously, I had to serve a suspension that was now finally lifted.
05:30 So just having that--
05:33 I don't know if you want to call it a weight, but just it feels like I'm free.
05:38 And that's a really good feeling.
05:41 I'm free.
05:41 And I love to compete.
05:43 And I love to be on the wrestling mat.
05:45 And I couldn't do that before.
05:47 And now I can.
05:48 And I had a lot of fun.
05:51 Do you think that was kind of the fire maybe that you had inside of you,
05:55 especially in OT?
05:57 Yeah.
05:58 I mean, it's all kind of--
06:02 I mean, it's part of it, because there's some stuff built up in there,
06:06 a lot of emotion.
06:07 Like I said, there's anger a little bit.
06:11 But then there's also optimism.
06:13 I was super excited.
06:15 I was excited through the roof.
06:16 And I feel like I did a good job of kind of compressing it a little bit,
06:21 because in the past, I feel like I've almost sometimes let my emotions get
06:25 the best of me, and I get nervous.
06:27 But I felt composed today.
06:29 And I was ready to go.
06:30 And I was ready to make the most of it.
06:32 And I feel like I did that.
06:34 And there's still a lot to improve on.
06:36 But I'm just going to keep getting better.
06:39 Was there a point in the match where you felt like you were in control,
06:43 that it was just a matter of when instead of if,
06:47 that you're going to come out on top?
06:49 Yeah.
06:49 I mean, I would say--
06:51 I don't know.
06:52 I could feel that I was wearing on him for sure.
06:57 And I was probably more so in the second period I started feeling that.
07:00 Even at the end of the first period, I know I didn't get out.
07:03 But I do feel like I--
07:06 especially that last 20, 30 seconds, I made it hard
07:09 on him, and I feel like the rest of the match,
07:12 I could feel him withering down a little bit.
07:16 But with that, I also have to be aware because guys
07:18 are dangerous when that happens.
07:19 But I did feel him because of my pressure, and my attacks, and my snaps,
07:24 and things like that.
07:25 So just got to keep building.
07:27 And how do you do that?
07:28 How do you build going forward off this?
07:32 Take it one day at a time.
07:34 Right now, it's relax and recover.
07:36 And then whatever the coaching staff has in store for me next,
07:40 I trust them with everything.
07:41 So I take it one day at a time.
07:44 And I'm looking forward to the Soldier's Salute
07:49 already, next thing on the calendar.
07:51 But there's some time there.
07:53 So I'm going to focus on tomorrow.
07:55 Number 11 guy that you get in your first match back,
07:58 I mean, what does that do for your confidence level
08:00 to go out, take care of business, and a big one like that?
08:04 I mean, the number in front of the name to me doesn't mean anything.
08:08 And it's a common opponent.
08:09 I've wrestled him before.
08:11 So I knew a little bit how--
08:13 a little bit of what to expect.
08:15 And the guy's game, he's going to wrestle every time.
08:17 He's a solid guy.
08:19 But the number to me doesn't mean anything.
08:23 But it does--
08:25 I would be lying if I said I don't feel better
08:29 after being able to go out and do it because it's been so long.
08:33 So getting it done when it matters out there,
08:37 it does help with confidence for sure.
08:40 Coach said you had been talking to him.
08:42 You wanted it.
08:43 You wanted it.
08:43 You wanted it.
08:44 Talk about your desire to just really go out and be able to wrestle
08:48 in the sport that you love.
08:49 Yeah, I mean, it's just I love to compete.
08:52 I love wrestling.
08:54 And I mean, I want to go out there and showcase my skills and have fun.
08:58 I mean, wrestling, to me, that's been my life.
09:00 So when there's outside factors that make it so I physically cannot go out
09:08 there, when it's time for me to go out there, it's a lot of fun.
09:12 So I would just say, I mean, I love to compete.
09:15 I love to have fun.
09:15 And I love to wrestle.
09:16 That's-- I mean, that's what I do.
09:18 You served your suspension.
09:19 But at the same time, do you feel like this
09:21 is still really weighing heavily on this team this season, just
09:24 the situation?
09:25 I don't think so.
09:26 I mean, I think that our team is very resilient.
09:30 And the bond that we have, the brotherhood that we have
09:34 is something special.
09:35 And no matter what comes to us as a team or individually,
09:40 we will get through everything.
09:43 And I love all those guys in that locker room, coaching staff, everything.
09:46 So I don't think it's a big weight, because we deal with what comes up.
09:52 And we face it head on.
09:53 We will get it done.
09:54 All right, thanks, Colleen.
