00:19 and are a real treat to play and experience all these years later.
00:24 Since Sega Genesis does what Nintendo don't, be sure to let us know down in the comment
00:28 section which game you think is still worth playing today.

00:40 Tiny Toon Adventures Busters Hidden Treasure
00:50 If you blend the speed of the 2D Sonic games, the fun platforming of the Super Mario games,
00:56 and the zany cartoon world of Tiny Toon Adventures, then you end up with Busters Hidden Treasure.
01:02 This fast paced platformer is frantic and fun in equal measures, and features some of
01:06 the best sprite and animation work of any game on the Genesis.
01:11 In this madcap adventure, you play as the Blue Bunny himself, Buster.
01:15 He must stop the dastardly deeds of Montana Max and his minions, all while trying to rescue
01:20 Babs and reclaim the titular hidden treasure.
01:23 With plenty of collectibles, lots of secret paths, and tons of gameplay variety, this
01:28 gem of a game is well worth a play today.
01:31 Just beware that the iconic music will get stuck in your head for days.
01:41 McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure Yes, I know what you are thinking.
01:54 How could you be so daft as to include a McDonald's game on this list?
01:58 Well, as the saying goes, you shouldn't knock it until you try it.
02:02 Or something along those lines.
02:04 I'm here to tell you that McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure is a superb platforming game.
02:09 One with tight controls, a quirky grapple arm/hand hook mechanic, utterly creative levels,
02:16 unique boss fights, a plethora of collectibles, and some of the very best music in all of
02:22 video gaming, period.
02:24 This delightful game was actually developed by Treasure, which means it's both crafted
02:28 with love and care, but it's also downright bananas.
02:32 Ronald McDonald must recover the pieces of a treasure map, something that takes him across
02:36 a crazy range of stages, while meeting some interesting characters along the way.
02:41 Don't let the McDonald's license fool you here, Treasure Land Adventure is a real treat
02:46 on the Genesis.
02:52 Aladdin They sure don't make them like they used
03:02 to, right?
03:03 And to this day, Aladdin feels and plays just like the actual Disney cartoon.
03:08 Yeah, it's that darn good.
03:10 Aladdin for Sega Genesis essentially retells the movie's story, something that leads
03:15 to some delightfully fun stages to platform around in.
03:19 Variety is truly king in this game, as Aladdin can jump, climb, swing, throw apples, attack
03:25 with his sword, and even fly on the magic carpet.
03:29 Each stage ups the ante when it comes to gameplay challenge, and there are even some bonus stages
03:33 that let you play as Abu.
03:35 Yes, it's a short game, however the amount of pure gameplay goodness packed into this
03:40 licensed game makes it one that is just as playable today as it was back in the good
03:45 ol' 90s.
03:52 Streets of Rage 2 Wonky text translation aside.
04:03 And yes, I'm looking at you, do baseball, and it's like boo posters.
04:08 You simply can't deny just how fun it is to actually play Streets of Rage 2, especially
04:13 with a buddy along for the ride.
04:15 While the beat 'em up brawler genre is certainly making a resurgence with the likes of Streets
04:20 of Rage 4, Toxic Crusaders, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredders Revenge, it's Streets
04:26 of Rage 2 from 1992 that is an absolute blast to play even when booting up your Genesis
04:32 today.
04:33 It's polished, weighty, punchy, creative, and just downright fun.
04:38 The 90s was brimming with games like this one, but Streets of Rage 2 showcased why it
04:43 was the pinnacle of the genre, especially with its brooding cast of characters and unique
04:48 set of stages and baddies.
04:56 Ristar The Sega Genesis was known for its hyper-vibrant
05:07 games, at least when it came to platformers, with this point being heavily proved in Ristar.
05:13 The sheer charm and creativeness on display in Ristar makes it stand out from the pack,
05:18 and could even pass as a brand new indie game today.
05:22 In Ristar, you, of course, play as Ristar.
05:26 Ristar uses his extendable arms to grasp and grapple enemies, platforms, and poles alike
05:32 in order to survive each stage.
05:35 While it does take a bit to wrestle with the controls and abilities Ristar has at his disposal,
05:40 there's simply no denying that this game upends the platforming genre with new and
05:45 unique ways to navigate each otherworldly stage.
05:48 And that's not even mentioning the exciting and challenging boss fights at the end of
05:52 each colorful world.
06:00 Gunstar Heroes Another treasure-developed game makes its
06:11 way onto this list in the form of Gunstar Heroes.
06:15 Often revered as one of the very best Sega Genesis games of all time, this one is the
06:19 epitome of pure freneticism.
06:22 Playing like a supercharged and cartoony version of something like Contra, Gunstar Heroes more
06:28 often than not feels like a shoot-em-up with that being the type of game it is, more so
06:32 than a 2D action platformer.
06:35 What makes this gem of a game so darn good is just how fluid and polished the whole experience
06:39 is.
06:40 There are dozens of baddies on screen, tons of projectiles coming your way, and the background
06:46 is moving around behind you.
06:48 Swapping out and combining different weapon abilities quickly shakes up your moment-to-moment
06:52 attacks, something you will have to do often in order to contend with the challenge level
06:56 this game throws your way constantly.
07:05 World of Illusion While any of the other Mickey-themed games
07:18 could have been slotted into this entry, including Castle of Illusion, Mickey Mania, or The Great
07:24 Circus Mystery, it's World of Illusion that truly takes the cake here.
07:29 The standout gameplay feature this time around comes in the form of the tandem/co-op gameplay
07:35 featuring both Mickey and Donald.
07:37 When playing solo, players must use both characters to navigate the whimsical and imaginative
07:42 stages and its many puzzles, with the game occasionally sending Mickey and Donald out
07:47 on their own depending on the scenario.
07:49 However, the game can also be played locally in two-player co-op, with each player taking
07:54 control of either Mickey or Donald.
07:57 Thinking about it just now, it's kind of like the precursor to It Takes Two, but with
08:01 a cartoony Disney flair.
08:09 Comics Zone If you were to show Comics Zone to someone
08:18 today, someone who isn't at all familiar with the Sega Genesis game from 1995, they
08:24 would likely say something along the lines of "Hey, what an awesome and creative looking
08:29 indie game from Devolver Digital."
08:31 It's hard to deny just how fresh Comics Zone truly is, even almost 30 years after its initial
08:37 release.
08:39 Taking place across stages broken up by literal comic panels, protagonist Sketch Turner gets
08:45 sucked into his comics and he now needs to find a way out, back to his home in New York
08:50 City.
08:51 Seeing Sketch hop between panels of the comic never gets old.
08:55 Between these moments you get to take part in some top notch beat 'em up brawler combat
08:59 scenarios like environmental puzzles and fourth wall breaking moments where the comics themselves
09:05 start to burn, tear, or fall apart in front of you.
09:14 Castlevania Bloodlines Step into the vampire hunting boots of John
09:28 Morris and Eric LeCarde as you traverse your way through the dark, haunted, and deeply
09:32 moody early 20th century European lands in search of Count Dracula, since, well, he is
09:39 being resurrected by Elizabeth Bartley.
09:42 This Genesis exclusive Castlevania game was crafted with so much care and passion since
09:47 it was built from the ground up for the console.
09:50 You can dive into the spooky and harrowing adventure with either character.
09:54 John uses his all powerful whip whereas Eric utilizes a deadly spear.
09:59 Each stage is broken up into distinct areas with a mix of sub bosses and uber challenging
10:04 main bosses.
10:05 The chunky visuals of Bloodlines really stand out from any other 2D Castlevania game, and
10:11 boy oh boy, that music from composer Mishuro Yamane is downright stunning.
10:16 If you can manage to find and afford a copy of this gem, then you are in for a real treat.
10:28 Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Yes, Sonic 3 is likely a contender here for
10:40 the best Sonic game to play today on your Sega Genesis, however, it's Sonic's second
10:45 outing that really proved why he was the king of speed.
10:49 Well that and chili dogs of course.
10:52 Sonic 2 took everything that made the OG Sonic so darn fun and memorable, namely the blazing
10:57 speeds, intricately crafted levels, and fun power ups, and dialed everything up multiple
11:02 notches, especially with the new Spin Dash, a real game changer for the mascot platformer.
11:08 Plus, Sonic 2 has some of the most beloved stages in the franchise, from the likes of
11:13 Emerald Hill Zone, Chemical Plant Zone, Casino Night Zone, and my personal favorite, Mystic
11:19 Cave Zone.
11:20 Plus, you can't deny that having Tails along for the ride truly added to the game's charm
11:24 and fun.
11:26 Revisiting this title today is just as thrilling as it was way back in 1992, with precise gameplay,
11:32 stellar music, and incredible replayability.
