00:00 Consider yourself lucky if our paths never cross.
00:04 Except luck isn't real.
00:07 The thing that interested me about the graphic novel
00:11 was this idea of intercepting thought
00:14 and how intercepted thought is proffered in cinema.
00:19 You sat down, the movie begins,
00:21 and you hear something that is deeply personal.
00:25 I serve no god, I fly no flag.
00:29 And I think that most people feel
00:32 that what they're hearing is the unadulterated truth.
00:37 What is voiceover? What does it mean?
00:40 And we started talking about the idea of this mantra.
00:44 This is my framework, this is how I understand
00:47 what it is that I do for a living,
00:49 and I'm not a serial killer,
00:51 I'm somebody who solves a problem for somebody else.
00:54 Stick to your plan.
00:56 Anticipate, don't improvise.
00:59 Fight only the battle you're paid to fight.
01:03 Forbid empathy.
01:05 And what if that begins to crumble
01:07 and you start to lose a brick here and a brick there?
01:10 Stick to the plan, stick to the plan, stick to your plan.
01:14 Let's rattle the cage of what a voiceover is meant to exist for,
01:20 and what if this is self-delusion?
01:24 There are tropes in this Aston movies that I question,
01:28 and the idea of the men in black basement
01:32 with all the stainless steel
01:34 and rack after rack after rack of different rocket launchers.
01:38 There are more than 50,000 storage facilities in the U.S.
01:42 I like to imagine the episode of Storage Wars
01:45 where they cut the lock on one of mine and get a look inside.
01:48 He wants to keep a low profile,
01:50 so he's driving an Aston Martin DB-12
01:53 with the wardrobe.
01:54 This guy has to be able to put an entire ensemble together
01:58 walking through an airport.
01:59 So, sketchers, yeah, 'cause there's a sketcher store
02:02 in an airport.
02:03 My camo is based on a German tourist I saw in London a while back.
02:08 No one really wants to interact with a German tourist.
02:12 Parisians avoid them like the rest of the world
02:14 avoids street mimes.
02:17 In revenge movies, there's something to the construction
02:21 of a character getting back at the people who've done him wrong.
02:26 Nothing like this will ever be allowed to happen again.
02:30 And generally speaking, you give him free reign
02:33 to do whatever he feels is appropriate
02:36 in terms of his response.
02:38 And I like the idea of you're invested in this guy
02:42 who's wearing a costume,
02:44 and he has to pretend to be a delivery person,
02:46 and he has to get through this security door,
02:49 and he has to time it all out.
02:51 Normally, in these kinds of movies,
02:53 the audience goes, "Great, he's gonna get his revenge."
02:55 What we wanted to play with was, "Oh, great, he got in the room
02:58 with a nail gun."
03:00 I'm not sure I want to see what comes next.
