00:00 Hello and welcome along to Invicta Sport, the only show on your TV dedicated to wrapping
00:20 up all of Kent's sporting action. I'm Bartholomew Hall and here's what to expect on this Friday,
00:26 the 8th of December. On the road to recovery, Kent footballers showing positive signs in
00:33 hospital after shock collapse. Santa Claus is running to town, 250 join in Chatham charity
00:41 chase and action replay. We take a look at the pictures and videos sent in by you, the
00:47 KMTV viewers.
00:48 But we start today with a round up of the headlines and Gillingham's game at Barrow
00:54 this Saturday has been postponed. The decision was announced ahead of time in order to prevent
00:59 unnecessary travel with heavy rain predicted throughout the weekend. As a 660 mile round
01:05 trip for the Gills released it was, the team were due to leave early this morning. The
01:09 club have said that tickets will remain valid for the rearranged game but refunds will also
01:14 be available for those who are unable to attend it.
01:18 Former Gillingham manager Neil Harris has been appointed head coach of League One side
01:23 Cambridge United. The former Millwall and Cardiff City striker is joining the Midlands
01:27 team on an 18 month contract. He was sacked as Gillingham manager at the start of October
01:33 after a 2-0 defeat at Crewe in League Two. He takes over with Cambridge sitting 18th
01:39 in League One with 20 points from 19 games, four above the relegation zone.
01:45 Now check this out, football legends Rio Ferdinand, Roberto Carlos, Mark Noble and Bobby Zamora
01:51 were all at Bluewater shopping today, not doing their Christmas shopping but instead
01:55 launching a brand new football arena called Ballers Air Dome. The new attraction will
02:00 feature a state of the art 7-a-side 5G pitch, Premier League style changing rooms, stadium
02:05 seating, a players tunnel as well as instant replays pitch side to re-watch moments of
02:11 magic. And I'm sure plenty of VAR arguments too.
02:15 Now former Kent cricketer Matt Coles has been cleared of sexual assault after an incident
02:19 at a pub in Maidstone. A jury at Maidstone Crown Court has cleared the professional cricketer
02:24 after it was accused he had inappropriately touched a woman who had stumbled whilst serving
02:30 drinks. The former England Lions player was drinking in the pub in August 2021, speaking
02:35 to Kent Online after the ruling. He said it's been a nightmare which has gone on for more
02:40 than two years.
02:43 Next more than £4,000 have been raised for the family of 19-year-old footballer Cameron
02:48 Beckles who suffered a stroke during a Kent senior trophy game. The 19-year-old plays
02:53 for Corinthian FC and was taken by ambulance to Maidstone Hospital on 25 November before
02:59 being transferred to a London hospital where he has undergone surgery for a blood clot.
03:04 His family and the club say there have been positive signs in recent days with slight
03:08 movement and him being able to say a couple of words as well as laughing and joking. I
03:13 spoke with club manager Michael Golding earlier and started by asking what type of player
03:18 Cameron is.
03:19 Yeah, he's a wholehearted defender. I had a really good chat having never met mum and
03:25 dad before these circumstances and you meet them in the hospital for the first time and
03:28 I said we had a really good honest chat with Cameron at the start of the season and he
03:32 wasn't quite in our plans. He came to us in pre-season and did well and we offered him
03:35 the opportunity to go and play at a club that we'd lined up for him but his answer was no,
03:39 I want to play for Corinthians, I'm going to prove you wrong. And he showed from those
03:43 stages that he was a fighter and he wanted to work hard and he got his opportunity but
03:47 he's taking this challenge on like he does with his football. He's leaving no stone unturned,
03:51 he's fighting for everything and it's really, really good to see even though it's small
03:55 baby steps. I think it's one of those that the wider football community comes together
03:59 in times of crisis like this really is. We all have our frenemies and everyone has their
04:05 own football rivalries but I think something like this happening to a 19-year-old kid just
04:09 puts everything into perspective a little bit. So we massively appreciate all the well
04:13 wishes and the donations on the GoFundMe and it's his birthday next Friday so it's a tough
04:17 lead up to Christmas, particularly with what's happened at the moment. So just keep spreading
04:21 the word, we massively appreciate absolutely everything that everyone's offering to do
04:25 and doing for Cam. So from the bottom of my heart, just a real big thank you.
04:30 Well of course all of us here at KMTV send our best wishes to Cameron's family and Corinthian
04:37 FC. Let's take a quick look at the football fixtures happening this weekend.
04:46 As we mentioned and as you've been hearing, Gillingham and Barnet have been postponed
04:50 with no date for its replacement currently announced. The Gilles will be next in action
04:55 at home to Bradford City on Saturday on the 16th of December. Apologies, we'd usually
05:00 be bringing you the graphics right now, I'll quickly run through the rest of the fixtures
05:03 for this weekend. It's a return to FA Trophy and a repeat of last season's quarterfinal
05:09 between Maidstone and Barnet. Barnet knocked out Maidstone in the competition in penalties
05:14 earlier this year. Barnet would then go on to be knocked out by penalties by Gates' head
05:19 in the next round. Meanwhile, Ebbs Fleet are hosting Bishop Stortford, that's in the FA
05:25 Trophy. In the National South, Dover Athletic, fresh off their management change after sacking
05:30 Mitch Brundle, Jake Lerbal and Mike Sandman will lead the Whites to Truro City, another
05:35 huge drive. Six hours on the team, coach for them. Dartford will be hosting Yeovil. And
05:40 in the Innsmerean Premier, Chatham Town will host Hastings. The visitors are just outside
05:45 the play-off positions whilst the Chats are second in the table, still trying to chase
05:48 down Hornchurch. Now we've reached half-time this evening, and sorry, so sorry, some slight
05:55 problems with the script there. Margate, they will be taking on this weekend with a new
06:01 manager in the dugout, Mark Stimson, former Gilles' boss. They announced this week the
06:06 55-year-old will be joining them on an 18-month contract following the sacking of former boss
06:11 Rhys Prestige. It comes as the club, alongside its youth side, have been collecting Christmas
06:16 donations. I spoke with Ryan from the club earlier. So I'm joined now by Ryan from Margate
06:22 FC. Ryan, thank you so much for joining us. Welcome onto the programme. Now obviously,
06:27 the big news we have to start with today is of course former Gilles' boss Mark Stimson
06:31 has been announced as the new manager down at Margate. Tell me, what's the feeling like
06:36 behind the scenes as you go into this weekend? First and foremost, we're delighted to have
06:43 Mark on board. He's a top-class manager, an incredible CV at this level of non-league
06:50 football. He's obviously managing the Football League as well. His CV speaks for itself.
06:55 In terms of the feeling at the club, it's been a long week, a complicated week. Mark's
07:03 arrival has been a real positive in respect of – in terms of his appointment. But it's
07:12 been a long week, but there's a very bright light now at what seemed a bit of a dark tunnel
07:18 seven days ago. Yeah, and obviously, I think for the fans as well, it has been kind of
07:23 a mixed week for everybody involved. Can you talk to me very quickly about the decision
07:29 to depart Waze with Reece? Obviously, he brought the club to Kent Senior Trophy success earlier
07:35 this year, but since then, the club hasn't been exactly where it wants to be within the
07:40 Izmir Premier. No, and anyone that watches football week in, week out will understand
07:46 it's a results business and the results of late have not been good enough. It was probably
07:53 one of the hardest decisions to separate with Reece. His commitment to Margate Football
07:59 Club, his love of the football club has never been questioned and never will be questioned.
08:04 He was a fantastic servant as a player. And like you mentioned there, the Kent Senior
08:10 Cup win back in May last year, or last season, sorry, was incredible. And no one will ever
08:17 forget that of Reece and his team then. But ultimately, results, it's a results business
08:23 and we had to do something because at the moment, as you look at the league table, we're
08:28 one place above the relegation zone. And like you mentioned, that's nowhere near where we
08:32 would expect to be as a football club. And is there a sort of message for the fans ahead
08:36 of this weekend against Carshalton, kind of get behind and sort of move on to this next
08:41 chapter all as one? Absolutely. Any football club up and down the country will know that
08:47 if they're all in it together and they're side by side in the trenches, then naturally
08:53 things get easier, things get better. I know at Margate there has been some sort of disillusioned
09:00 supporters recently and over the years, really, it's been a real slog being a Margate fan.
09:05 And having been at the club since I was eight years old as a fan, I've lived through that
09:09 as well with them. There's been broken promises, there's been dark, dark times at the club.
09:16 But my message this weekend to the fans would be get out in your numbers, come and support
09:19 Mark and his team. They really want to do well, they want to kick on. Everybody at the
09:26 club wants that. The ambition of the football club is to win every game, to get higher in
09:32 the league table, to win every cup we enter or certainly enjoy big days out like the Cups
09:40 can produce. So everyone knows everyone together is a much more bigger force than any fractions
09:47 within. So please, let's just give Mark everything he deserves and that's the support of us from
09:52 the board and crucially from the supporters as well on a Saturday. And you know what?
09:57 They will do. Absolutely. A very positive message there. And another real positive story
10:02 to come out of the club this week is that you're reaching the final week of your Christmas
10:06 gift campaign. It's not the first year that the club's been involved in it. Can you tell
10:10 me how it all came about? Yeah, we've got a fantastic charity here in Thanet, Community
10:17 and Kindness. They do some incredible work throughout the year, not just at Christmas.
10:22 You know, they help families in hardship with birthday presents, Easter, you know, Easter
10:27 eggs and gifts at Easter. And of course, Christmas is a tough time for many. Thanet is a deprived
10:35 area and there are lots of people in Thanet that, you know, maybe just need that little
10:40 bit extra help this Christmas. And that's what these guys do at Community and Kindness.
10:46 Incredible charity. Absolutely. I think we all love to see our football clubs here in
10:49 Kent really engaging with the community. And it seems that's exactly what you're doing
10:53 there. Just one final one. Some more news that we found out today is the North Stand.
10:58 We know the kind of next stage. Can you quickly give us that update? Yeah, it's been a very
11:05 long time coming. I think you can probably rewind 20 years to when this whole proposal
11:11 was started and to now. It's been a long road. It's been a very dark road for many Margate
11:17 fans and for people involved at the club over the last 20 years have always wanted to see
11:22 the redevelopment happen. We've announced phase one will start in February 2024. And
11:29 like our chairman, Ricky Owen, said in the statement there, it's a landmark day for this
11:34 football club. It's been a long time coming. And it's just for those people that have stuck
11:38 by this football club in all those times. This one's for you. Well, Ryan, thank you
11:43 very much for joining us today and best of luck to the club this weekend. Thank you very
11:47 much. Now we've reached halftime, which means it's time for a break. But coming up, plenty
11:53 more sport. I'll see you in just a three moments.
11:55 Thanks, guys.
