We asked people if they think Sheffield is on the up.
Transcript
00:00 It's a nice place to live, especially in this area that I've stayed in.
00:04 Normally the student villages are just up the road on England, so it's quite a nice place to live.
00:09 And in terms of the city centre, I've seen things getting built that look quite nice, new places like the...
00:15 I think it's the main shopping street, the Moor area. It's been quite nicely developed, but yeah, that's my impression.
00:20 Because a lot of the politicians like to say that Sheffield is on the up.
00:25 Right.
00:26 Would you agree with them?
00:28 From what I can say, if I'm just talking about development, there's not been much change.
00:32 But I've seen the odd change, the odd building be done, or the development in the Moor is all I can really point to in my head.
00:40 Are you feeling quite positive about the city?
00:42 I like it here, yeah. It's a nice place to live. It's quite different to where I'm from, but I like the area that I'm in right now and the places I've been in. Yeah, it's quite nice.
00:51 33 years now. I've run a business here for 20 odd years, and this last five years is the worst I've ever seen Sheffield.
01:00 I have no faith in getting any better. Everything that seems to happen seems to take it one step forward, two steps back.
01:06 I was in Fargate yesterday, and it just shows everything.
01:10 I watched the news this morning about Chanel having taken over the centre of Manchester for their first fashion shoot.
01:17 We have nothing in Sheffield. All we ever hear is promises, promises, and nothing ever happens. I can't see it changing.
01:24 You mentioned Fargate. They said that that would be finished at the end of next year.
01:28 They said that last year, yeah, and the year before, and the year before. It's still not finished.
01:35 I have no faith that Council will finish that properly. I really don't.
