00:00 So, easy peasy first.
00:01 Obviously, thank you so, so much to the Hollywood Reporter.
00:03 It's an absolute honor to be here today
00:05 in full f***ing glam at 8 a.m. on a Thursday morning.
00:09 [applause]
00:12 We're here at the Hollywood Reporter's
00:16 annual Women in Entertainment Gala
00:18 where stars like Adele, Kerry Washington, and more
00:21 grace the stage to be honored and celebrated
00:23 as powerhouse women who are some of the biggest trailblazers
00:26 and changemakers in Hollywood.
00:28 [applause]
00:30 Isn't it just time for women to run the planet?
00:32 I mean, men, we've been running the show since what?
00:38 10,000 B.C.? Something like that?
00:40 [laughter]
00:41 And we're not doing so good.
00:43 Will Ferrell kicked off the celebration
00:45 with some opening remarks that he shared
00:47 in true comedic fashion.
00:48 For this year's gala, THR honored Adele
00:51 with the prestigious Sherri Lansing Leadership Award
00:54 with 2010 honoree Dame Helen Mirren
00:56 presenting the superstar with a recognition.
00:59 You know, I read in an interview recently
01:01 where Adele was called the voice of her generation
01:04 and I totally disagree with that.
01:06 Her voice is one for the ages.
01:09 [applause]
01:12 The award was established in honor of the former CEO
01:15 of Paramount Pictures and recognizes innovators
01:18 and philanthropists in entertainment and media.
01:20 During her speech, Adele said this.
01:22 Sherri, you are the epitome, absolute epitome
01:26 of what it is to open doors
01:28 and more importantly, to leave them open.
01:31 Because of all the sacrifices that the women before me
01:34 have made, it's because of them that I have every right
01:37 to be the boss at work and the boss at home, so thank you.
01:40 Meanwhile, Ariana DeBose presented Kerry Washington
01:43 with the Distinguished Equity in Entertainment Award.
01:46 She is an inspiration to women around the world,
01:49 the epitome of grace, class, and leadership.
01:52 She is a trailblazer.
01:54 She has shown us what is possible,
01:56 not just in our industry, but in the world.
01:58 This award recognizes individuals who amplify the voices
02:02 of underrepresented communities in the entertainment industry.
02:05 During her speech, Washington reiterated the importance
02:08 of representation and being seen in media.
02:11 That's why centering stories about marginalized people
02:14 is so important.
02:15 This is why heroes have to look like all of us.
02:19 Our stories, our movies, our music.
02:22 Art teaches us to stop and slow down
02:24 and really see ourselves and see each other.
02:28 Plus, Dua Lipa, Camila Cabello, Lily Gladstone,
02:31 Billie Lord, and Brian Lord were on hand
02:34 to present scholarships to high school seniors
02:36 from underserved communities across Los Angeles,
02:39 all of whom have taken part in THR's acclaimed
02:42 Women in Entertainment Mentorship Program.
02:44 Empowering Girls is exactly what the Hollywood Reporter
02:47 Women in Entertainment Mentorship Program does.
02:50 I'm so inspired by all of you.
02:52 I'm so excited for you. I'm so proud of you.
02:55 Give them a round of applause, you guys.
02:57 The event, presented by Lifetime, coincided with the release
03:01 of The Hollywood Reporter's highly anticipated
03:03 Women in Entertainment issue, which highlights the Power 100,
03:07 a list of the most powerful female executives
03:09 and talent in entertainment.
