00:00 The trending word of the year is Riz. Do you know what this means?
00:08 Riz? No idea, dear.
00:11 Do you want to have a guess?
00:14 Risky business? I don't know.
00:17 Yeah, it's short for charisma, I believe, and it's all about whether you've got the
00:24 kind of, I don't know, charisma within yourself or whether someone else has got charisma and
00:30 they've got the Riz, they've got that well factor, they've got that, yeah. I've heard
00:34 it. It's like getting out there now.
00:37 Riz. I've never heard the word before. I'm a poet and it's never come up at any of the
00:44 open mics or the spoken word sessions that I do. It's an interesting one. I might be
00:49 writing something with it in.
00:51 Oxford University Press, which publishes the Oxford English Dictionary, has revealed its
00:56 word of the year. Riz is defined as style, charm or attractiveness and the ability to
01:01 attract a romantic or sexual partner. Mostly used by Generation Z, the word beat out others
01:07 like Swifty, an avid fan of the pop singer Taylor Swift, and Beige Flag, a character
01:12 trait that indicates a partner is boring, to make it to print in 2023.
01:16 Do you think the word has earned its place and have you heard it before now?
01:21 I'm one of the ways, to be honest, you know. I mean, if people like it, great. Riz, yeah,
01:26 it sounds good. But like everything else, it'll just become a word as part of the dictionary
01:31 in the future, you know, so.
01:34 I didn't until I read about it, yeah. I'd never even heard of it. I'm only 41, I'm not
01:38 that old, but I should know these things.
01:40 Do you know, can you guess what it means?
01:43 No. I'm of a certain age. No, I don't. And I have my children or my daughter, she's grown
01:48 up. So no, I have no access to that.
01:51 It means charm and charisma. So I'm assuming it's charisma.
01:56 Oh, yes. Yeah, that makes sense. Yes. Oh, good. I've learned something today.
02:01 Techno folk, so I don't know it's all on.
02:04 Would you have a guess about it?
02:06 Yeah, good. Excellent. Fantastic. You know, gee whiz, that old American thing, you know.
02:17 Do you know what you're not far off? It means like charisma.
02:20 Oh, there you go. Well, I've got plenty of, I've got plenty of what is it?
02:23 Riz.
02:24 Riz. Plenty of that.
02:26 He has Riz.
02:28 Yeah, it's mostly used by like teenagers, like twenties. No one over the age of 30
02:35 uses it at that age. People use like, we use Riz. That's how we got our lasses, especially
02:43 this month.
02:44 I have used that word mainly, mainly for silly jokes, just for the humour. It's a funny word.
02:52 I like it. Good to use. Why is the only word that's coming to me right now for tomfoolery?
02:59 That's all I've got for you. It's good to use for tomfoolery. It's fun.
