Cricket Australia says it "makes no sense" for the sport to contribute money towards a temporary stadium at the RNA Showground while the Gabba is demolished for the Olympics. The State Government will continue to work with the sporting codes over the proposal while senior ministers have also backed the premier who's copped recent criticism about her leadership.

00:00 It's the stadium proposal that's hit cricket for six.
00:06 The state government wants to transform the RNA showground's main arena into a 20,000
00:11 seat venue while the Gabba is rebuilt for the 2032 Olympics.
00:16 "We've put our plan on the table."
00:18 It'll cost $37 million, with the state to cover a third.
00:23 The RNA, Brisbane City Council and Sporting Codes have been asked to stump up the rest.
00:30 "They are going to have the country's best stadium in a few years' time and we're not
00:34 asking them to put in $1 for that.
00:37 But in the meantime we need a temporary home."
00:39 Not everyone is playing ball.
00:42 First the Brisbane Lord Mayor ruled out chipping in.
00:45 Now in a joint statement, Cricket Australia and Queensland Cricket have rejected the idea,
00:51 saying "It makes no sense for us to contribute up to $90 million towards a temporary venue
00:57 that will get little use when the Gabba comes back online.
01:01 We are also disappointed by the lack of detailed consultation."
01:06 It instead wants Allan Border Field on Brisbane's north side upgraded.
01:09 "We've just got to make sure that we continue to talk, that we've got all of the participants
01:16 at the table."
01:18 "The Olympics and Paralympic Games were meant to bring people together.
01:21 Unfortunately under the Palaszczuk government it's now dividing people."
01:24 While feeling the heat over the stadium's stoush, Cabinet Ministers have backed the
01:30 Premier, who's been copying criticism from Labor's old guard about her leadership.
01:35 "Everyone's entitled to their views but these are people who have been out of politics for
01:39 a long, long time."
01:40 "We all have complete confidence in her."
