00:00 From now Hollywood icons not feeling as though it'd be possible to catch lightning in a
00:04 bottle twice, to legendary vampire slayers feeling there's no story left to tell for
00:10 them anymore.
00:11 These are the actors who gave a reboot of their TV show a hard pass.
00:15 Gareth here from WotCulture.com and here are 10 actors who have turned down TV reboots.
00:21 10.
00:22 George Clooney ER Back before he'd ever donned a pair of
00:25 bat nipples, the ball of charisma that is George Clooney first made his presence known
00:30 in an NBC medical drama by the name of ER.
00:33 And while the Hollywood A-lister would ultimately kiss goodbye to his character of Dr. Doug
00:37 Ross all the way back in 1999, before making the odd cameo appearance, it's clear his
00:43 work on the show struck a chord with fans the world over, leading to many understandably
00:48 trying to will a reboot of the Emergency Room series back into existence over the years.
00:53 However, the last time Clooney sat down and reunited with his one-time castmate in 2021
00:58 for a charity chat, the Academy Award winner confessed that he didn't think a reboot
01:02 of the show was possible, largely due to it now being difficult to produce another series
01:07 at the level the team once did.
01:09 Simply put, the superstar actor just felt it would be hard to capture lightning in a
01:13 bottle twice, with co-star Juliana Magulis also admitting that it was probably wise to
01:18 leave what was so beautiful and move on.
01:20 So despite the late Michael Crichton's wife admitting that she loved the idea of a revival
01:25 of the show creator's passion project, it looks as though this cast's days of running
01:29 around a hospital on the small screen are over.
01:32 Alongside his brilliant iteration of everyone's favourite USS Enterprise officer Spock in
01:40 the rebooted Star Trek film series, Zachary Quinto is probably best known for his compelling
01:45 work as the superpower-stealing figure known as Sylar in Heroes.
01:49 Yeah, when it became clear that the folks behind the NBC hit show were gearing up to
01:53 bring the series back into existence after five years away, a conversation with show
01:58 creator Tim Kring soon brought with it the realisation that Quinto was very much happy
02:02 to leave Sylar in the rearview mirror.
02:05 Though he'd go out of his way to explain how he loved the job and people he worked
02:08 with during his meaningful experience whilst occupying the hero sphere, the star just didn't
02:13 want to go back, and confessed to wanting to cultivate other outlets for himself.
02:18 As it goes, Quinto was probably wise to give this heroic reunion a miss in the end, with
02:23 Heroes Reborn eventually underwhelming and not earning itself a second season.
02:27 8.
02:28 Michael Ontkean - Twin Peaks A lot can change in 25 years, and while that
02:33 time did bring with it a cult following for the surreal world of Twin Peaks, it also left
02:38 the series without its sheriff when the time came to unleash a long-awaited revival in
02:42 2017.
02:43 That's because during that long period between the show's cancellation after its second
02:47 season back in 1991, none other than Sheriff Harry S. Truman himself, Michael Ontkean,
02:53 only went and decided he'd had enough with the balmy world of acting.
02:56 So when David Lynch and Mark Frost were finally all set to bring their mysterious property
03:00 back to the small screen midway through the 2010s, the team behind the show were forced
03:05 to change direction a touch when it came to the role of Town Sheriff in season 3.
03:09 Oddly enough, the actor tasked with stepping into those law enforcement shoes was actually
03:13 once being eyed up for the role of Harry in the lead-up to its initial ABC run, with Robert
03:18 Forster not being able to accept the role due to being attached to another pilot at
03:22 the time.
03:23 Everything worked out in the end, though, as the late actor ultimately arrived in Twin
03:27 Peaks as Sheriff Frank Truman, Harry's brother.
03:30 7.
03:31 Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen - Fuller House In the wake of bursting onto the scene at
03:35 a young age as part of ABC's eventual hit Full House sitcom, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
03:40 soon became all-round superstars, making their film debut shortly after the series came to
03:45 an end and ultimately going on to become fashion icons and successful businesswomen.
03:50 But with the stars turning their attention largely away from the acting industry over
03:53 the last few decades, it didn't come as that much of a surprise to hear of the Olsen
03:57 twins passing up on the chance to return to the Netflix revival of the show that catapulted
04:02 them to superstardom.
04:03 After not appearing in front of a camera since she was 17 at the time of Fuller House going
04:07 into production, Ashley would reportedly admit that she didn't feel comfortable acting
04:12 anymore, whilst Mary-Kate was seemingly slightly interested in a Michelle comeback at first,
04:17 though would eventually also join her sister in turning down the return, saying the timing
04:21 just wasn't right for them.
04:23 With the Olsens committing much of their time at that point to the designing of the Roe
04:26 and Elizabeth and James lines, it's not hard to see why a Fuller House appearance
04:30 would have been hard to squeeze in.
04:32 But their absence as Michelle Tanner still couldn't stop the sequel series lasting
04:36 five whole seasons before its conclusion in June 2020.
04:40 6.
04:41 Cole and Dylan Sprouse - The Suite Life of Zack and Cody
04:44 Speaking of child stars who seemingly won't be appearing in a reboot of the family TV
04:48 show that made them famous, Cole Sprouse has gone on record on a number of occasions to
04:53 shoot down the concept of himself and brother Dylan ever resuming their suite life in the
04:57 coming years.
04:58 Noting on the Drew Barrymore show that reboots are a tricky thing, the Riverdale star confessed
05:03 that he regularly finds himself being asked by fans whether the twins would be up for
05:07 reuniting for a revival of the hit Disney show, only to reply with a swift "no, absolutely
05:13 not".
05:14 The Cody Martin actor would also explain during a The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon appearance
05:18 that there's a ton of potential to demolish that perfect little golden memory of a programmer
05:23 if all involved opted to revisit it down the line.
05:26 And brother Dylan has also confidently stated the duo won't be returning to the show again
05:30 too.
05:31 So, don't expect to see the Martin boys check back into the Tipton Hotel any time
05:35 soon.
05:36 5.
05:37 Kim Cattrall - Just Like That After six seasons and two movies of bringing
05:41 the trisexual force of nature that is Samantha Jones to life for fans' entertainment, you
05:46 can't exactly blame Kim Cattrall for wanting to retire from her most famous role to pursue
05:50 other compelling parts.
05:52 But the Golden Globe-winning star's decision to turn down a third Sex and the City film,
05:56 and Cattrall making it clear that her Samantha days were done from there on out, still couldn't
06:01 stop the rest of the original cast from reuniting for a sequel series down the road.
06:05 In fact, Cattrall has been so vocal about not wanting to add anything else to her legacy
06:10 as Jones that she wasn't even asked to be a part of And Just Like That, with the actor
06:14 revealing to Variety that she only heard about the series via social media.
06:18 And for those still hoping to see the return of Cattrall's outspoken Sex and the City
06:22 figure one day, with Jones still being referenced in And Just Like That, that's a no as her
06:27 position on the matter as of 2022.
06:30 4.
06:31 Steve Carell - The Office USA While he has since gone on to enjoy quite
06:35 the glittering, dramatic career on the big screen, it's still hard to look past Steve
06:39 Carell's side-splitting work as the largely incompetent Dunder Mifflin boss, Michael Scott,
06:44 as the role he'll forever be best known for.
06:46 And with the series finding another life as one of the most re-watched sitcoms ever to
06:50 grace a streaming service in the wake of its finale in 2013, it was only natural to assume
06:55 that a revival of sorts would be at least discussed as time went by.
06:59 However, in Carell's mind, the show just wouldn't be able to be the same thing it
07:02 was back when they were creating it all those years ago, with the Academy Award-nominated
07:07 thespian admitting that he has absolutely no desire to play Scott again.
07:11 Again, it's not as though Carell didn't absolutely adore his time working on the hit
07:15 that was adapted from the original British series, even going as far as to class it as
07:19 a special thing before people thought it was a special thing.
07:22 But Carell just doesn't think the odds are in their favour when it comes to recapturing
07:25 the magic of that glorious initial run.
07:28 That's what he said.
07:29 3.
07:30 Jeanette McCurdy – iCarly By the time Paramount+ decided to give a generation
07:35 of iCarly fanatics the return they'd been waiting for in 2021, Jeanette McCurdy was
07:39 very much over all things Sam Puckett.
07:42 The star, who would also reprise the role on Sam & Cat, actually confessed to quitting
07:46 acting altogether a few years before news of the iCarly revival broke, stating on her
07:51 MCInside podcast that she wanted to try her hand at writing and directing.
07:55 On top of this, McCurdy would also confess that when it came to acting in general, she
07:59 initially didn't want to do it, with the child star's mother throwing her into the
08:03 business at age six.
08:05 By the time she was ten or eleven, the young actor was the main financial support for her
08:09 family, so you can only imagine the sheer amount of pressure that must have brought
08:13 about for someone just entering their teens.
08:15 McCurdy would even go as far as to admit that she was ashamed of the part she did in the
08:19 past, claiming she was already embarrassed about her role in the Nickelodeon show at
08:23 the age of 15.
08:25 All this ultimately led to the actor telling her co-star Miranda Cosgrove that she wouldn't
08:29 be doing the reboot as McCurdy felt her mental health and happiness were more important than
08:33 the money she could have made from a comeback.
08:38 Despite officially reaching its conclusion, Chex notes, a whopping 20 years ago, the appetite
08:44 for another set of adventures centred around Sarah Michelle Gellar's Buffy Summers is
08:48 still as strong as ever.
08:49 Unfortunately for those angling to see the titular vampire slayer dive back into the
08:53 much-loved supernatural world with her fellow Scooby gang members, Gellar has confessed
08:58 to having zero interest in battling evil forces in a revival of the hit series.
09:03 Gellar is incredibly proud of the work she helped create the first time around, and just
09:07 feels that a reboot doesn't need to be done.
09:09 That's not to say that the Scream 2 and Scooby-Doo style would be against the series
09:13 continuing the tale without her, however.
09:15 In fact, the "Every girl who has the power can have the power" message sent out as
09:18 the show drew to a close means that it's set up perfectly for someone else to have
09:22 the power, as far as Gellar is concerned.
09:25 While this most certainly acts as the definitive nail in Buffy Summers' coffin, perhaps Gellar's
09:29 blessing will finally lead to the series actually being brought back from the dead, with a new
09:33 slayer after being put on pause last August.
09:37 Delighting Frasier fanatics the world over back in 2021, when it was officially confirmed
09:44 that Kelsey Grammer would be back for a revival of the long-running sitcom smash on Paramount
09:48 Plus, said news actually turned out to be rather bittersweet.
09:52 Upon eventually learning about another star who wouldn't be along for the rebooted ride.
09:56 According to the Dr. Frasier Crane actor himself, Grammer's co-star David Hyde-Pierce won't
10:01 be joining him when the sequel series does finally land on the streaming service.
10:05 Simply put, Hyde-Pierce just wasn't all that interested in repeating the work he'd
10:08 already done as Frasier's younger brother Niles on the series.
10:12 But far from completely derailing the project altogether, his eventual lack of involvement
10:16 was said to have resulted in the series being taken to a new place.
10:20 According to the clearly excited leading man.
10:22 And for those wondering whether the show will just completely no-sell the absence of Niles
10:26 or any other characters not set for a return, Grammer was also quick to note that we'll
10:30 certainly be responsive about the fact there was a brother and such.
10:33 At a glance though, this is very much shaping up to be a new world for Frasier, and one
10:38 that has already reduced Grammer to tears upon a first read-through of the script.
10:42 We're not ready folks, we're just not.
