What we know about Chanel’s Métiers d’Art fashion show coming to Manchester’s Northern Quarter this week

Manchester is preparing to welcome some of the most A-list celebrities to the city centre streets, as the world's biggest fashion brand - Chanel - is hosting a huge fashion show in the Northern Quarter.

On December 6-7, 600 of the biggest names in showbiz and fashion will descend onto Thomas Street for this year's Métiers d'Art show.

Previously hosted in fashion capitals, including Paris and Shanghai, this event cements Manchester as a major player in the global fashion scene.

The Northern Quarter has been voted one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world by TimeOut, praised for its urban charm, world-class street art and a fantastic music, food and art scene.

Thomas Street is perhaps the most iconic street in the Northern Quarter with its vibrant colours, street art, independent boutiques and edgy food and drink hotspots - and is the perfect backdrop to this unique event.

Planning for the event has been months in the making and the Northern Quarter has been gearing up for the last week, constructing a huge structure that looks to be an outdoor covered catwalk.

The city has seemingly been chosen to host due to its rich history within the textile industry, and the show's backdrop will reflect working-class Northern Britain in the world's first industrial city.
